Fans are good for circulating the air in your room or your home in the summertime. So it makes no sense that they just point in one direction. The double room circulator makes more sense. It’s a double-headed fan that can be pointed in two directions at the same time for maximum circulation.

This design speeds up the circulating air, clearing the hot air from your home and cooling you down efficiently. Single head fans are for suckers.

They still need to wire it up to the Audison Bit One sound processor and McIntosh MMC406M 6-channel amp, but they’ve fitted and molded the dash to the iPad. Sure it looks a tad awkward with it’s size and that bezel, but all of your media will be along for the ride right?

Philip’s new SoundSphere MCi900 and MCD900 definitely add some flair to the home stereo concept. Both systems have a pair of speakers, 100 watts of amplification and “free floating” tweeters outside of the enclosure.

The casings are molded from a single piece of aluminum, and each has an integrated CD player and USB socket. The former has a 160GB hard drive, support for internet radio and wireless streaming with networked PCs or Macs. Nothing on price yet, and we have no idea when we Americans may see it.

One of the things that are typical of many webcams that are built into monitors and notebooks is that they suck. The video quality of the cheap webcams inside netbooks for example leaves a lot to be desired. Video is grainy, resolution is poor, and any recorded clips with the camera are choppy.

Microsoft announced a new webcam called the LifeCam Cinema that promises to change all of that. The webcam has 720p resolution and an external mic. The native 720p sensor is perfect for the user who wants to record video to upload to YouTube.

Apple may have dumped ExpressCard from their new MacBook Pro models, but the PCMCIA are going ahead with the official release of ExpressCard Standard 2.0. With 2.0, transfer speeds are reportedly boosted by up to 10-times compared to ExpressCard 1.2 and there’s also support for SuperSpeed USB 3.0.

The up to 5Gbps bandwidth will make ExpressCard 2.0 even more useful for adding eSATA ports and high-speed storage like the latest breed of SSDs. PCMCIA also sees it being useful for streaming video and audio adapters. ExpressCard 2.0 is also backward-compatible with previous cards, so existing accessories will all work in the new sockets.

Unless you are a pretty serious game geek, you may not recognize the name Will Wright. Wright is the guy behind some of the most popular game franchises in PC gaming including SimCity, The Sims, and Spore. Wright has been with EA since it purchased Maxis in 1997.

EA and Wright have announced that Wright will be leaving EA to start a new firm called Stupid Fun Club. EA will be a major investor in Stupid Fun Club and Wright will run the company. Stupid Fun Club will be an entertainment think tank with the goal of developing ideas for multiple fronts.

If you bought a laptop that doesn’t have a nifty remote control, the Outel Wireless USB Laptop Remote Control is a nice solution. We’ve seen our share of geek cakes, whether you’re talking Star Trek or R2-D2. But the Millennium Falcon cake is the best yet. Probably the best ever. It takes the cake.

It’s super detailed and would leave a trail of sickeningly sweet icing through hyperspace. It was made by Charm City Cakes in Baltimore and some lucky guy who isn’t me received it this weekend for his birthday. I wouldn’t know whether to eat it or get my old action figures out and play. It just needs a blockade of Star Destroyer cakes to outrun and the scene is complete.

Audiophile specialist McIntosh Laboratory has just unloaded a flotilla of new high end (i.e. pricey) components for the “price is no object” home theater. The one we picture above, for example, is the MC2301 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier, priced at around $11,000. That’s right, $11k.

There are all kinds of wacky mice out there, and I ain’t talking wacky cartoon mice. Most are not particularly innovative, but the Donya DN-SlimG4 has something new to offer. It looks like a Razor-esque cell phone, and folds up into a neat little square package.

DRS Tactical Systems announced today a line of portable computers which could probably just as easily survive in military situations as well as your backyard. It is called the Armor line and it consists of the C12 convertible notebook and the X10 tablet PC.

Kyocrea Wireless recently unveiled a new portable router which supports 802.11n (Draft 2.0) for faster wireless connections. The Kyocera KR2 Mobile Router will be available sometime in early 2008.

The Kyocera KR2 Mobile Router follows on the heels of the award-winning KR1. The KR2, besides supporting 802.11n, is designed to work with PCMCIA, ExpressCard and USB devices for wireless connectivity. It can also also act as a regular router via wired connections. A dedicated button helps setup and bolster wireless security, with the router featuring VPN-L2TP and enhanced encryption for network security.

Alltel Wireless announced today it was the first North American wireless provider to offer PC data card products from Huawei, an overseas developer of telecommunications products. The Huawei EC360 card is now available for around $190.

The Huawei EC360 lets laptop owners go wireless broadband at download speeds up to 2.4 Mbps, and supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Vista operating systems. The card has a hinged antenna and external antenna port to offer options for better signal strength. It slides into the PCMCIA slot of a notebook and supports EVDO.

Sharp has recently updated its Mebius line of notebook computers with three new basic designs into 5 models which all include the new Windows Vista OS from Microsoft, among a few other nice hardware upgrades.

The Mebius PC-WT70S features a Turion 64 X2 processor (1.60GHz), up to 2GB of memory, 100GB HDD and 1,280Ã-800 resolution on a 15.4 inch screen. A lithium ion battery give it up to 1.2 hours of run time and the highest end version has dimensions of 360Ã-258Ã-36.7mm and weighs approximately 2.6kg.
