We’ve seen Twitter displays, but David Nichols’ Tweetster seems like a step above the rest with it’s laser-cut wooden parts and open design. The OpenWRT project and an ASUS Wireless Router WL-520-GU provide the functionality. The WiFi router uses OpenWRT to run Python from a USB flash drive in back. The setup automatically retrieves the latest 20 messages from his followers, displaying them on the serial LCD.

The downside of course, is that you can’t follow links to articles, see TwitPic images or even reply. But if you are only following a few select people, this could be a cool desk toy.

Flesh eating zombies have been a staple of horror films for decades. An announcement last week of a new autonomous robot called EATR developed with funding from DARPA was rumored to be powered by human flesh among other things.

The company behind the EATR robot, Cyclone Power Technologies, has issued a statement denying that EATR uses dead humans to make power. The EATR robot is powered by a biomass engine and is designed for long-range, long-endurance missions without needing conventional refueling.

The MotionPlus may have taken a full year to arrive on the scene, but now that it’s here it’s doing pretty well. Overall video game sales dropped in June for the first time since 2000, but Nintendo can’t complain. 361,700 Wii consoles and 766,500 DS units shipped in June, but the big surprise is that the company also managed to sell 169,000 Wii MotionPlus units.

That’s not including the bundled ones like the one packaged with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (that sold 272,400 units). Plus you have to take into account that Wii Sports Resort has yet to be released.

We were still recovering from how shockingly bad the Terminator movie was and the new Transformers flick that debuted didn’t impress us much either. Microsoft just announced its latest portable wireless mouse, the colorful Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000, targeting netbook users. The new mouse features the company’s latest BlueTrack technology that is said to offer superior accuracy unlike laser and optical mice.

Supposedly it beats all other mice and will perform as well or better on smooth surfaces including granite and even on surfaces like a carpet and unfinished wood. The 2.4GHz Nano USB transceiver won’t stick out more than 0.4″ from your USB port, so you can leave it in all the time.

Third-party wireless guitar controllers for the Xbox 360 have been hard to come by, but Logitech is leading the charge with this new Guitar Hero-licensed controller that’s similar to its PS3 and PS2 offerings, except that its orange, and Xbox 360-compatible.

It features a wood neck, rosewood fingerboard, and metal frets just like the others, along with a touch-sensitive slider on the neck, strum bar and fret buttons that are “virtually silent,”. It also has a range of 30 feet.

You may know Tengu, the interactive USB powered device that reacts to sound, and uses LED lights to display animated faces. Well, they are back in the form of Tengu Allstars. The new range includes three different looks, with addition of some colorful afros.

The first one is named Rotten, an anarchist, punk rocker type. The second is Stardust, a glam rocker, while the third is Woodstock, who is a trippy hippie from the 1960s.

Sports games traditionally are not my favorite genre. I never bought a sports game for the Xbox 360, PS2, or PS3. I have bought a few sports games for the Wii though that are lots of fun to play thanks to the cool Wii controls.

EA’s Tiger Wood’s PGA Tour 10 is likely to be the best golfing game of the year on the Wii and EA announced that the game has now shipped to retailers around the country. The game is available with the Wii MotionPlus accessory or without it.

Last we heard, the Curve 8900 was scheduled for a vague “early summer” release. Well, AT&T has just announced that the Curve 8900 will be available both online and in stores starting this Friday. That’s a whole lot less vague and just two days away.

Some advantages: The battery will never betray you. It will provide warmth if you burn it after reading. Termites will eat something intellectual. And it will biodegrade long before Amazon’s version.
