Verizon Palm Pre 2 gets a release date

Posted in Palm by Conner Flynn on February 6th, 2011

It actually hit Europe a few months back, but now it looks like we’ll finally see this webOS 2.0 phone in our neck of the woods. At least, according to a screenshot posted on precentral.net. The Verizon Palm Pre 2 product page was spotted by someone and it lists the Palm Pre 2 as having a February 17 launch date.

The phone will cost $100 with a 2-year contract. What with a launch date so close to the iPhone, and a rumored Bionic and XOOM release date, the Palm Pre may get lost entirely. Have you been waiting for this one?

Jabba The Hutt iPad Docking Station

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on January 16th, 2011

We already know that Jabba likes to decorate his palace with things like, oh I don’t know, smugglers frozen in carbonite and whatnot. But what you may not have known is that he also loves to have a huge iPad docked right in front of him. Probably helps him sleep or something.

This natural wood dock will sync up your iPad, iPhone and iPod in style. Jabba’s style. Which is grabbing a toad out of your bong water and eating it up, while laughing at the Jedi who has come to collect his friend and is about to kill you.

Wii and Kinect join forces for Call of Duty

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on January 13th, 2011

You could play Call of Duty with the keyboard and mouse or your gamepad controller, or you could go all out and use a Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect, configure your PC to support them both, and then load up Call of Duty.

That’s what Demize2010 on YouTube did and it sure looks immersive. He uses the Wii controllers to shoot and move, while he modified the Kinect so he could lean around a corner, jump and crouch. Now he just needs some Hollywood squibs for when he gets hit by bullets.

Gresso, makers of ultra-exclusive and expensive versions of popular consumer electronics, has now unveiled its latest product. Apple’s iPad, with 200-year-old African Blackwood as its case and an 18K gold Apple logo. Sadly, we don’t have any other details about the Gresso iPad, like what model has been selected.

We do know that it will be expensive. So expensive that they refuse to talk about it. Price will likely be revealed when the exclusive iPad goes on sale on New Year’s Eve. I’m pretty sure I can’t afford it.

Recoil Saw bounces through wood

Posted in Tools by Conner Flynn on December 16th, 2010

The hand saw is one of oldest tools we still use. You can get quite a workout cutting wood with one. There must be a better way though. Well, John Zimmerman, a software developer, has come up with the Recoil Saw which has spring-loaded impact bars attached to the blade.

What that means is that at the end of each stroke, the spring will compress as the bar hits the material being sawed, followed by a release of energy flowing back into the following return stroke. It enables you to ‘bounce’ through wood, so you won’t get as tired.

ICONICSTAND iPhone Stand

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 14th, 2010

Most iPhone stands are functional, but not very unique. This is one of the most unique designs we’ve seen yet. It was designed by Young-Gun Cho and the ICONICSTAND is constructed using sustainable practices.

This stand is cut from Birch and can even be personalized with the logo or icon of your choice from Twitter or Facebook. The stand lets you rotate your iPhone to view it in either portrait or landscape and the plywood feel of the stand is a very different experience compared to plastic or metal stands.

Natural Motion has launched Jenga for the iPhone and the iPad. The game even features input from the designer of the original game, Leslie Scott. The game uses real-time 3D physics simulation to recreate the behavior of an actual wooden Jenga tower. Each block is affected by the surrounding blocks requiring the gamer to apply the same strategies that they would in the real world game.

There’s also a social dimension allowing users to compare their tower height with friends from around the world, or you can play the Pass’n’Play mode which allows up to four players to take turns playing on the same iPhone.

The Level Twelve casemod from Jeffrey Stephenson is pretty decent looking if you like wood. The box is constructed from Teak and Birds Eye Maple and holds a 2TB hard drive, an optical drive and four front mounted USB ports.

Other specs of this mod include an i7-processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB Crucial C300 SSD and a Lenovo H320 case. Jeff makes computer cases look damn good. If we had computers in the 1950′s they would look like this.

DSLR gets hand carved wooden control knob

Posted in DIY by Shane McGlaun on October 4th, 2010

I would bet at one time or another we have all loaned someone something and had it returned with damage. That is frustrating and the least we expect from those who borrowed it is to fix it for us. That is just want one guy did.

As the story goes, a dude loaned a DSLR to a pal and while the pal had the camera, the control wheel was somehow lost. Rather than return the camera broken, the dude who borrowed it set about crafting his own replacement.
