This Steampunk lamp would be right at home lighting up the desk of a 19th century mad scientist. It’s basic,simple and unlike some Steampunk creations, isn’t overdone and overly thought out. Creator Michael Pusateri made it from an old wooden cigar box, two 60 watt bulbs, a handful of copper wire.

He admits that he got “a little fancy” and painted the ceramic mounts with textured copper paint. And he acknowledges that he could have thrown much more steampunk at the thing, but likes the simplicity. Check out a video below.

Here’s a great redneck way to listen to your favorite tunes. Preferably outdoors, where you aren’t poking holes in the wall. This Acorn MP3 player, which they are calling the “Pine Cone MP3 Player” is to be purchased, buried in the backyard in a small hole that you have dug by hand, then dug up to help to get you through a harsh winter when music is scarce.

This MP3 player comes with 1GB of storage, and features a controller on the top so you can select your tracks easily. It goes with all of your other wood gadgets, like the Scrabble keyboard and your wooden earbuds.

Gadgets and wood have an on-again off-again relationship. Gadget makers love, whether it’s a flash drive, or a laptop case, or even headphones. Now Skullcandy has created some fancy wooden earbuds.

The wood grain earbuds will run you $99. The phones work with all your favorite music delivery devices. Some users say that using wood in earphones enhances the sound. Which likely explains the price. We aren’t sure how far this wood trend is going to go, or if it really enhances something like earbuds enough to justify the price, but what do you think? Are they worth it?

This 2GB thumb drive is encased in White Oak. It’s basically a Jenga game piece with tiny little Post-It Notes glued on. It may not look like much, but at least it combines two items that take up room on your desk into one device.

The only problem is that when the Post-It notes run out, you’re stuck with a wooden flash drive that somehow finds it’s way into the Jenga box to mingle with all the other pieces, only to be lost forever since no one plays that stupid game. The notes, being an odd size can’t be replaced easily. All for $30.

Midnight releases of video games are getting old. So Best Buy is looking to do something a bit different when it comes to launching Resident Evil 5. They will be treating it more like a Hollywood premiere event and we may see more of this in the future. How does a store full of zombies and a chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador sound?

It will all happen on March 13, at the Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Best Buy, where they will convert part of their store into a haunted house. Employees will become zombies, their bank of televisions all set to eerie no-signal snow. There will even be even be at least one dude in a potato-sack mask with a chainsaw.

The Steampunk phenomenon just keeps chugging along. Here’s a little something for you Guitar Hero players who wish they featured a Victorian rocker with period guitar. This is what such a guitar might look like. It was built for the 2008 Jersey City Artists Studio Tour by Mark Dalzell, and it’s called Organum Insolitus.

It features a television with Fresnel lens magnifier, onboard phaser, an amplifier and uses clockwork gears, hand hammered brass, cloth wire and wood. The guitar can be attached to an external amp with a standard ¼-inch cable, so you can really use this.

If you’ve wanted to get in on JVC’s high-end wooden headphones, but lacked the extra thousand bucks required, here’s some potential good news. This pair should be a bit more affordable. The HP-DX700 boasts a frequency range of 5Hz to 30kHz, with 64-ohm impedance and 101dB per mW.

We’d like to tell you more, but those are all the specs we have. Users of such high-end woody ear-gear will tell you that the wood gives the sound a richer, warmer tone. And while JVC hasn’t revealed a price or release date as yet, we don’t know how much you’ll save over the previous DX-1000, but the wait should be worth it.

The PSP is cool and all, but like any other device, it’s outer shell is boring. Gametech has the answer and wants to glam up your PSP with a set of protector cases coming out that make your portable look like a work of art. The designs are the bright patterns of Japanese woodcarvings and traditional paintings.

Their new line’s name translates to Wasabi Beautiful Colors and they come in durable hard covers, flexible soft covers, and gauze capsule cases that make your PSP look like it was wrapped. They’ll be available in Japan at the end of the month, and they’ll probably hit other countries soon after.

This plain looking wooden case has been designed for the MacBook and the 15 inch MacBook Pro. It is what it says it is. A wood box to put your laptop in. The tree that died so you can tote around your MacBook in style will surely thank you for it. Anyhow, carrying around a rigid wood box with your laptop inside isn’t exactly all that stylish or hip, or comfortable I would imagine. Think of the eventual splinters.

The inside is even lined with leather, so now the count is up to one dead tree and one dead cow. It’s not that I’m against wood and leather. It’s just that you, our awesome readers, deserve something better then a plain old box lined with leather. No word on pricing. I mean, what do you price a box? Boxes are everywhere. So is leather. Whatever the price, I’m sure it will be way more then it’s worth.

Someone loves Scrabble a whole bunch and by creating this awesomely nerdy keyboard, they must have scored themselves a quadruple word score. It’s a wood and brushed aluminum keyboard that features real Scrabble tiles. The points score is slightly edited to show each key’s secondary function.

Everyone knows Scrabble and this is an awesome mod that looks like it could have come straight out of the game box. It’s a USB keyboard and the aluminum accents will very nicely match the Mac that it will be paired with.

Grace Digital unveiled this week is 2009 line up of Internet radios and audio network media streamers. Five new products in particular are highlighted and they range in price from around $150 to around $350.

Grace Digital said its GDI-IR1000 Internet radio improves upon its previous ITC-IR1000B by keeping the same wood cabinet while adding adding personalized bass and treble settings and 10 front panel presets. The GDI-IR2000, a step up, includes a remote control and auxiliary input for audio playback from a device such as an iPod.

The Gerber Kick Axe is not what you use to open Gerber baby food. It’s a more portable, foldable way of having an axe on you at all times, for things like: Chopping wood, terrorizing a camp while wearing a hockey mask, disposing of bodys, and more chopping wood.

A typical horror movie scene with the old school un-foldable axe goes something like this: Killer approaches victim(slowly) with a very obvious axe in one hand. Victim runs. Crappy music and a crappy chase follow, until he hacks he/her/they up. With the new and improved axe, that same scene goes like this: Killer approaches victim(slowly), with no obvious weapon in hand. He certainly doesn’t have an axe, because axes are long and obvious. Victim does not run. Killer smiles. Hey. Hi. What’s up? Killer unfolds his axe and get’s his victim. You see what happened there? This gadget/weapon has completely done away with the chase scene with the bad music and by doing so has cut every bad horror movie down to just 30 minutes. Awesome.

Isn’t it ironic that some of the most beautiful turntables have shown up long after the days of vinyl? If only we had had such beauty back in the days of records. Germany based company, Montegiro, has a new high-end audio system in the form of the new Legno turntable.

It uses bamboo as well as high-grade steel to produce beautiful music from your old vinyl collection. The company decided to use a bamboo chassis because of the wood’s stabilizing and resonance-damping properties. There are also four adjustable and high-grade steel feet with rubber O-rings. The Montegiro’s Legno luxury wooden turntable is now available for a mind-blowing $13,240.

Some DIYers from the Cowtown Computer Congress used some servos and an Arduino processor to connect a wooden Labyrinth game to a Wii Fit. Why? Is there ever a reason? It just had to be done. Simple as that. Basically it makes the game more difficult.

It’s an inexpensive project at just $60 total (That does not include the Wii Fit), and it seems like a simple process. It also looks like a lot of fun. What could be better then taking a simple game and adding a high tech way of playing it? Check out a video below.
