Samsung i727 spotted

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2011

Some photos of the AT&T-bound Samsung SGH-i727 have surfaced. This is 80% of it. The rest of the phone had to be reconstructed with Photoshop. That’s why the perspective is off.

This phone has its Wi-Fi certification, but isn’t yet in the Bluetooth or FCC databases, so the i727 is probably still a few months from launching. It’s expected to be a mid-range handset when released. When we hear more we will let you know.

Air Picks Air Guitar Toy

Posted in music by Conner Flynn on July 6th, 2011

We’ve all played air guitar at some point and when playing air guitar, we are all rock gods. Now it’s time to take air guitar to the next level. Air Picks are pocket sized electronic air picks that allow you to enjoy a few songs. How you play them in the air is up to you.

There are three picks to choose from right now with songs like Jumping Jack Flash, Satisfaction, Born to be Wild, Smoke on the Water, and Sweet Home Alabama. There is no volume control though so this could get annoying very quickly.

HTC Marvel hits the FCC

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2011

The FCC’s database has yielded a mysterious HTC smartphone going by the PG76240 model name, with support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ frequencies, which means that another HTC model might hit the carrier soon. There aren’t many details to go on, but it look like it will be the HTC Marvel.

The Marvel is just an HTC Wildfire S with support for T-Mobile’s network, and both devices share similar model numbers – PG76240 and PG76100. It’s just guesswork for now, but we should have confirmation soon.

myTouch 4G Slide Appears In The Wild

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on June 20th, 2011

How about some crystal clear myTouch 4G Slide in the wild shots? The device has shown up in some pics that are actually pretty nice and clear. Looks like it will definitely run Gingerbread with an HTC Sense UI. The keyboard is said to be amazing and the phone surprisingly fast.

Apparently the keyboard also feels a lot like the G2 keyboard. The phone also apparently weighs in at a little bit more than the G2, so we will see how it feels. Nice to see it clearly for once.

Nexus 3 spotted?

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on May 29th, 2011

Rumor is that Google has been working on a new Nexus handset and now we may have a brief glimpse at it thanks to folks at TechHog who have a photograph that is supposed to be a prototype of the Nexus 3. The phone is apparently being manufactured by HTC.

It has a front facing camera, and is being tested on HSPA+ and Sprint CDMA networks. So it looks like Google will launch the phone on Sprint since the carrier has been working with Google on Google Voice and Google Wallet. Other than that, we know nothing little else. However Techhog was asked to remove the images and info, so that pretty much confirms things.

Droid X2 press shots

Posted in Motorola by Conner Flynn on April 24th, 2011

The Motorola Droid X successor, known until now as the Droid X2 or Droid X 2 has been spotted several times in the wild and it looks very similar it’s predecessors. So appearance is no surprise, however these press shots tells us one important thing: the name of the phone. The branding has now been shown as Droid X^2. X Squared, not X-two. That’s new.

The expected specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 4.3-inch screen with qHD, 768MB ram. The rest of the specs will likely remain the same, but will it come preloaded with Froyo or the newer Gingerbread build of Android? We will see.

Hulu Android app coming soon, but only for some devices

Posted in Hulu by Conner Flynn on March 13th, 2011

Hulu’s Hulu Plus plans for Android are getting closer with a new teaser in its device list. The teaser shows the Plus service “coming soon,” but not for all devices. Only certain ones. Use of the TV streaming will require “select Android OS 2.2 phones,” according to the company.

Pretty odd since the photo shows the Nexus S, which runs Android 2.3, but maybe they are preparing to change the image. As for why the access is limited, it is likely due to Android fragmentation. Netflix knows first hand that the platform has wildly varying DRM support in most versions and it would have to write too much code to support most or all Android devices. So support is coming, but there is a price. It will shut out a large portion of the Android community. Hulu, who is very keen to guard against stream ripping also faces this barrier. One day though, we hope to have Hulu Plus on all of our Android devices. The question is when?

Is Microsoft working on the Xbox 720?

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

Microsoft may be working on the next generation Xbox, which we might as well call the Xbox 720. This speculation comes from some recently posted some job listings on Linkedin for what seems to be Microsoft’s next generation console.

There are listings for an Audio/Video Hardware Architect, an Audio Architect and a Graphics Architect and the listings reference ‘next generation’ consoles, so this isn’t wild speculation. We have no idea when we might see a new console, but at least they are working on it.

The Samsung Stealth features a 4.3″ Super AMOLED + display, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera, LTE/CDMA radios, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI-out and Android 2.2. Nothing on price yet, but we will know more when it is announced officially.

NES modded into a breathalyzer

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2011

If you have some spare time on your hands, why not turn your Nintendo Entertainment System into a breathalyzer called DrunkenNES? That’s what this Engineer did. He turned an NES cartridge into a working breathalyzer unit, and coded a program on the NES to calculate the readings from the controller.

Now everyone will know just how buzzed you are as you try to rescue Peach from Bowser’s clutches. As a bonus, after analyzing the breath of a “player”, they get a score and a rating such as “Buzzy Bee” or “Party Kitten” to show how drunk they are. An “Alco-hall of fame” also ranks you like a hi-score chart. Sounds like a wild mod.
