Some sites were reporting that Sony won an Emmy for its PlayStation 3 Sixaxis controller. The source of this information was Sony itself in a press release the company said, “Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced that it has been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the PlayStation computer entertainment system’s Sixaxis wireless controller.”
According to Japanese gamer magazine publisher Enterbrain, Nintendo’s Wii has outsold the PlayStation 3 in Japan. Some think that this could be an indication of the success or failure of each platform in the US.
At CES 2007, Sony Corp. said it met its goal of shipping one million PlayStation 3 game consoles in North America in 2006. Sony did not say how close it came to shipping 2 million units world-wide in 2006. The PS3 has not started selling in Europe yet. It is scheduled to go on sale around March of 2007.
Analysts are reporting that the shortage of the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintindo Wii game consoles may continue up until March or even longer.

Nintendo launched it’s new Wii video game console in New York last night at midnight, meeting more than a thousand eagerly awaiting fans. Some fans had been in line for days awaiting the launch in the hopes of being one the first to get their hands on the new console. Surprisingly, the US launch was done prior to the launch in the companies home of Japan. This was done, according to Nintendo, in order to take advantage of the earlier holiday shopping season in the US.
In case you have been in a cave the last few days, Sony released it’s next generation game console to United States customers yesterday at stores across the country, and like the PS3 sales in Japan only a week ago, the consoles were reportedly gone in a matter of minutes. Sony geared up to be able to offer 400,000 PS3 consoles to the US market for the launch date, and Sony wants to have 1 million available to US customers by the end of the year.
