Virtual Walkie Talkie turns your Android phone into a CB radio

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on October 31st, 2010

Virtual Walkie Talkie is a free Android program which basically turns your phone into a CB radio. The software works over WiFi and features multiple channels. It will stay on in the background until you deliberately exit the program.

So if you miss the days of CB radios and need to go all “breaker, breaker, good buddy”, now is your chance. Just be prepared for Koreans, Germans and other nationalities to all be chatting away, which you wouldn’t have found on the old Citizens Band radios. Sounds like fun though. Maybe this will make CB talk popular again. Probably not though.

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on August 8th, 2010

Do you tote around both a phone and a tablet? Apple fans need not answer since we already know that you do. Why not merge the two? That’s the idea behind the Sony Ericsson FH concept.

The FH is a dual screen flip phone. The hinge allows you to position both halves of the phone side by side, so that the screens line up and work like one big screen. Wait, there’s more.

Prank Pack fake gift boxes for the holidaysCheck out these “Prank Pack” fake gift boxes. Great way to pull a prank on those you love this holiday season. Just be careful, they might get mad enough to throw punches. I know I would be pretty pissed off if I thought I was getting some sweet coffee mugs with built-in walkie talkies, only to open the box to find socks or some other crappy gift. So be warned, anybody who pulls this with me is in for a world of hurt. You don’t mess around with a man’s hopes and dreams.

Also available are: Beer Beard: Sneak beverages into sporting events under a fake beard, Birdie Belt: GPS rangefinder, belt, and buckle with integrated tools and tee storage, Noggin’ Net: Hat that doubles as a fishing net, Motorized Rolling Pin: 1/16-horsepower motorized rolling pin and the Wake & Bake Griddle: Combination alarm clock and breakfast griddle.

Lego camcorder spotted

Lego camcorder spottedThose Lego-branded Digital Blue devices/toys we’ve been telling you about are starting to surface. This prototype of the video camera was spotted at a toy fair in Nuremberg.

There aren’t any other details at the moment, but it’s a bit disappointing as it looks a little too polished and not handmade like the walkie talkie and digital camera we showed you. Oh well, you win some you lose some. It is a prototype, so who knows, it may go through some changes.

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on February 11th, 2009

Alcatel + Lego = Lego phoneAlcatel and Lego teaming up to make a Lego handset? The announcement included details on a digital camera, a walkie talkie and an MP3 player. The functional toys would fall into an affordable $20 – $60 price range.

Now Alcatel is apparently jumping into the mix and the trio is planning to get cell phones in the hands of children using Legos. This piece of Lego-electronics is rumored to be released by this summer along with the rest. Not sure yet if you’ll be able to connect a few of these Lego handsets together or not.

Clone Trooper Walkie Talkie watch setSo, you’re a kid who’s into Star Wars. I apologize on Lucas’ behalf for a crappy second trilogy. You deserved better. But hey, if you’re into it you obviously don’t ask for much. Might as well enjoy these crappy Clone Trooper Walkie Talkie watches that are just as sub-par as the latest movies. They’re great for communicating with your fellow trooper while on your various Jedi killing missions.

There’s no word on what kind of range you’ll get with these. Probably two feet. You’ll have these on your wrists while you are yelling at each other and giving away your plans. A set of two will cost you $29.99. And look, they match your Clone Trooper laptop.

Zeki walkie-talkie with SMS and MP3 for kids
Here’s an interesting way to pimp out your toddler. Korean company YoungToys released a cellphone/digital toy aimed directly at kids and toddlers. “Zeki” uses Near Field Communication(NFC) technology to communicate between mom and kid, or kid and kid, up to an 80-meter distance. Some other features include mp3 playback, voice & video recording, SMS and alarm function and the ability to absorb kid germs.

Zeki also supports the exchange of data between devices, so kids can exchange songs and videos, or plot the demise of an adult. The $105 device is made from materials harmless to their rugrat bodies and the phone is apparently shielded against electromagnetic waves, so you do not have to worry about your kid’s brain being fried. This would go well with the Sweetpea MP3 player he/she has already drooled all over.
