UFO USB hub and card reader

UFO USB hub And card reader
Anything that calls itself “UFO Combo Card Reader + 7-Port Hub” catches my attention. It’s not just a useless device with a cool name either. It’s a gadget that is actually quite handy sporting 7 powered USB 2.0 ports. It’s also got 7 slots to read CF / T-Flash / MicroSD / M2 / Mini SD / SD / MMC Micro / MMC / XD / SM / MS / MS Duo cards.

Did I mention it’s shaped like a UFO? (Sort of) And it might even house little aliens for all I know. The kind that get all up in your business at night, while you sleep. You can get yours in either blue or gray for $30.

Samsung Series 7 LCD HDTV

Samsung today put word out through the lands of tech about the availability of its Series 6 and Series 7 LCD HDTVs. These displays range in size from 19- to 52-inches and pricing from around $480 to $3,500.

The Series 6 displays should mostly be available now, with the Series 7 units come out in May. Samsung’s most touted design features with these displays is its “Touch of Color” which draws from “several artistic inspirations” and features “a hint of red color naturally blended into a semi-transparent piano black bezel.” Excuse us while we go wipe the marketing barf off of ourselves - you can read the rest of the Samsung love fest after the jump.

Transformer’s All Spark talking USB hub

Posted in USB by Darrin Olson on April 13th, 2008

Transformers All Spark 4-port USB HubThis already-shrunk-down version of the All Spark from the Transformers movie has a few less powers than its likeness in the movie and probably won’t turn your gadgets into small Autobots and Decepticons. It does however have the ability to expand your USB ports by 3 as its main purpose is a 4-port USB hub. As if that’s not quite enough for Transformer fans, the hub will also spout out All Spark phrases from the Transformer movie. I don’t think I remember the All Spark doing a lot of talking during the movie but I suppose that was the next best thing to having the device auto-expand into the full-size All Spark.

The USB hub retails for £17.99, but can only be pre-ordered at this time and isn’t expected to be available until the end of August.

Four-way USB Hub…with a fish

Four-way USB Hub…with a fish
Sometimes it’s like they just combine stuff together and hope the end result is great. I can’t decide if this combo of fish and USB hub is proof of designers on drugs or brilliance.

But, if you are lacking a little fish friend in your life, maybe this one’s for you, fake fish and all. It’s even got a few shells, some greenery and real water. If that’s not enough, it illuminates, cycling through four different colors. It will only cost you $12 and there’s no danger at all of you killing it from lack of attention.

Belkin USB hub fills your desk hole

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on March 11th, 2008

Belkin USB hub
Every now and then you come across a design that is absolutely brilliant. Like this Belkin USB hub that fits in the grommet hole on your computer desk. I always knew that hole was good for something, besides making objects disappear never to be seen again.

Combine that hole with something you can never have enough of, like USB ports, and what you’ve got is gadget gold. The 3″ grommet hub has 4 raised USB ports with openings on each side for hiding cables, and if your hole is smaller,(This all sounds really wrong…) you may need the 2″ version. Simple and brilliant.

A bunch of USB junk this device is

usb-crap.jpgHow many USB ports do you have on your computer? Got at least a few freed up by not connecting your USB boxer or Mr. Burns Web cam? $15 will get you multi-functional USB device to round out your ports and USB collection.

The USB Desk Assortment and Gift Set consists of a center base and four arms which sprout out of the center to offer different functions. You’ve got total combined offerings of, in no particular order, a USB 1.1 hub, a pen holder, a cup warmer, a mini lamp, a mini vacuum and an open port.

Running man 4-port USB hub

Posted in USB by Darrin Olson on February 28th, 2008

Running man 4-port USB hubSure you can get a regular little rectangle 4-port USB hub just a handful of dollars, but what fun is that? This USB Runner Hub also has 4 ports, costs $12 and looks a whole lot cooler. The ports are cleverly placed in the end of one leg, arm, front of the base and in the brief case that swivels 180 degrees. This running man USB hub stands a little over 100mm tall and supports USB 2.0 and 1.1. It does look pretty neat but unless there is some heavy weight in the base (71g total weight) or some kind of suction cup I think it’s going to be tough to keep this guy on his feet when he’s plugged in and hard at work.

Whether the fate of the entire free world is in your hands or not, your minions will fear and respect you when they see this on your desk. It says “I obviously have a bunker. Do you?”

And then on some magic day in the far off future, when nothing is going your way, just turn the key, flip the switches and press The Red Button! USB Traffic Light can regulate desk traffic

Posted in USB by Darrin Olson on February 14th, 2008

USB traffic lightAfter already spending too much of my day behind traffic lights at intersections and at those metered ramps they have here in the Portland metro area the last thing I really want to see when I get to work is another traffic light on my desk. Unless of course I can use it to effectively stop or at least caution approaching visitors of my current status.

This USB traffic light doubles as a 4-port USB 2.0 hub and has a little switch letting you control the red yellow and green light for once, instead of it controlling you. As if that isn’t enough from a $25 USB peripheral it also can record and playback a 10 second voice message and has a place to clip a memo pad and supposedly some type of screen cleaner. Huh…

Anyway, another one of those perfect gifts for the geek who has to have every type of cheap USB accessory available.

Pioneer Pro DJ line-up for disc jockeys
Pioneer is offering a new line of products that should score big with DJs. In the old days you had to lug around crates of heavy records, but that’s not the case anymore thanks to technology. Their backs are grateful. These days being a DJ is much easier, but the life of the DJ is about to get better still thanks to the MEP-7000, unveiled today at NAMM.

The 4.3-inch LCD screen is the central hub and command center. Two OLED screens help with the functionality of the DVD mixer with pitch, playback and position information. It also has dual DVD drives and USB adapters that make it compatible with everything from MP3 players to flash drives to hard drives. If you want to expand the command center ability, just plug a PC into the unit and the PC and will cooperate with the other software.

62-in-1 card reader mounts in 3.5″ internal bay

Posted in Card Readers, FireWire, USB by Darrin Olson on January 14th, 2008

62 in 1 card reader and hub for SATA, USB and FirewireTake a look at this card reader from USBFever that says it will handel up to 62 different types of memory cards and connections. I’m not sure what those 62 types are and the product page doesn’t even list them but you can feel pretty confident that it will take just about whatever you got. We do see support for CF, SD/MMC, MemoryStick and xD at the least.

Aside from being just a card reader, the gadget also works as a hub for a single connection for each of USB, Fireware, SATA, e-SATA, headphones and a microphone. All of this is conveniently built into a box that fits in your internal 3.5″ drive bay on your computer so you don’t have to have yet another device taking up space on your desk and another USB port.
