External hard drive manufacturer LaCie is out with a new five-bay RAID solution for small and medium size offices. It is called the 5big Network and it has a starting price of around $900.

The LaCie 5big Network is available in 2.5TB, 5TB and 7.5TB storage capacities. It offers up hot swap and seven RAID modes, including RAID 5 and RAID 6. Storage can be expanded on this drive via its USB or eSATA ports.

Joining such USB drives as the Aigo and the bottle opener USB drive, here’s another that’s actually useful for more then just holding data. The eraser flash drive. Because sometimes you gotta, you know, erase stuff.

Toshiba is delivering a new mobile projector which offers closed caption capabilities for those in need of this type of function. It is called the TLP-X150U and you’ll find it available for around $960.

The TLP-X150U, with its closed caption feature, allows the audience to read text or dialogue from a DVD player or television signal. It also offers what is described as a “PC-free” presentation, hosting a USB port so one can show a presentation stored in JPG format on a USB flash drive.

Nyko’s latest release, the Media Hub+, expands the console’s options and features three extra USB ports and a multiple memory card reader. Mahjong tiles can be considered an art form, just like the game and now you can get in on the action with a Mahjong USB flash drive. It’s called the MahjongDisk and it’s a handcrafted USB flash drive made to look like three Mahjong tiles stacked together.

Etsy seller NES Box didn’t like the fugly exterior of their external hard drive, and so did something about it. That something was to drop it in an old NES cartridge case. The cartridge was just the right size, allowing the drive to fit in perfectly.

And if things ever get too dry and you find yourself in need of a hit, I’m sure you could break it and get just enough booze to wet your beak. You might also want to be careful that you don’t crack it and feed your laptop beer.

Got wood? Yamaha does. Yamaha Japan announced the TSX-120 and TSX-130 iPod docks, both with a soft wood finish. The TSX-130 seen above comes with USB connectors and a CD-drive which supports playback and recording. Shared features on these units include an amplifier output of 15W × 2ch, 2 x eight cms speakers, frequency response of 60Hz ~ 20kHz, FM tuner and remote control.

They may match your style and even if they don’t, they’re bound to match that Atari you have lying around.These should hit Japanese stores in early December if you want one for X-mas. The TSX-120 will sell for about$ 300, while the TSX-130 will be about $ 400.

So you’re looking for a gift for your uncle Fester, but a normal run of the mill flash drive just won’t cut it. Looking at family photos has come a long way since I was a kid. My mom had volumes of photo albums with pictures crammed in slots. Inevitably, over time they would stick to the pages and ruin the pictures. Today for family photos, we store thousands of them on one tiny memory card or our computers and view them on a digital photo frame. The next evolution of viewing family photos will be looking at them on the big screen TV in the living room.

You can do something similar on an Apple TV, but you have to send the photos over a network to the device. PIE Unites has a new digital photo viewer called the HD-0310 that connects to your HDTV via HDMI and can display images at full 1080p resolution.
