Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on September 11th, 2009

LG XD3 Slim portable hard driveLooks like LG is jumping on the portable hard drive bandwagon with their new line of XD3 Slims. These trim hard drives measure just 13mm thin and sport rubber-padded sides for impact protection. They connect by your USB 2.0 port, but the XD3 Slim can also connect using SATA II.

Storage capacity maxes out at 500GB. The 320GB model should arrive in Europe and North America for about $90 later this year. They look pretty good. We really like the brushed aluminum finish.

Posted in Netgear by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2009

Netgear Digital Entertainer Live Streams PC Media to your TVNetgear’s Digital Entertainer EVA2000 is perfect for those who don’t have a home theater PC or a networked console. The device will stream all of your PC media onto your TV. It connects to the TV via HDMI/composite and to your router via ethernet and it will stream a bunch of codecs from your PC or networked storage, as well as load media from a USB drive or stream YouTube from the web.

There is a catch of course. You need to purchase PlayOn for $40 if you want to stream video services like Hulu, Netflix and CBS from a computer. That takes the price from $150 for the Netgear Digital Entertainer up to $190.

Grundig’s latest TVs offer USB recording

Posted in Television by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2009

Grundig’s latest TVs offer USB recordingGrundig may be looking to replace TiVo with their latest TV models. Several of the models will incorporate USB-recording technology. You can use a standard USB flash drive or external hard drive as a personal video recorder or PVR. The catch is that you can only watch the recorded content on a compatible Grundig set.

8GB of storage should hold up to 4 hours of programs at normal resolution, but for HD recordings that number goes down. Content without copy protection can be viewed on any Grundig TV with the USB option, but encrypted channels can only be viewed on the TV where they were recorded on. The USB drives can be fully or partially formatted to suit the USB recording function and still allow other data to be stored on the drive.

Japanese Fan USB driveWe’ve seen plenty of USB flash drives, but usually they don’t come in such an elegant form. This one comes from where else? Japan. The Japanese Sensu Fan USB Drivetakes the age old Japanese fan and incorporates a modern flash drive.

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on August 31st, 2009

dension-sbOne of the last realms for users to get always on Internet connections that can be shared is in their cars. We can already get Internet in cars with mobile phones or 3G dongles, but it can be hard to share. A company called Dension has announced a new USB dongle that provides wireless connectivity to users in the car.

The device is called the Wi Drive and is a USB dongle designed to plug into the USB port of a car. USB ports are still relatively rare on cars in the U.S. so the company also offers a gateway that adds a USB port to the vehicle.

T-Rex Dinosaur USB driveDinosaurs are extinct, so they don’t care if we abuse their action figures to make USB drives. They can’t bite us and swallow us in one gulp. They can’t even get mad about it because they are gone and we rule the Earth. To quote that kid from The Simpsons, HA HA.

$3,000 Steampunk USB flash drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on August 25th, 2009

$3,000 Steampunk USB flash driveWe love Steampunk around here. We’ve certainly featured our share of steampunk gadgets. And this USB drive is another pretty nice example of the art form, but it’s insanely priced at $3000. I would pay maybe $100 for this flash drive. Maybe $300 if I had some disposable money.

It has some great detail work and looks pretty awesome, so it’s a shame that it’s priced so high that no one will own it. Could be a typo, but somehow I doubt it. Now the Steampunk phone from Russia. That I could pay handsomely for.
