JVC’s DLA-SH7NL, a $15,000 projector

Posted in Projectors by Conner Flynn on February 1st, 2010

Looking to spend $15,000 on a new projector? Then check out JVC’s DLA-SH7NL projector. For that price you do get an amazing resolution of 4,096 × 2,400 and it will show off more than four times the detail found in full HD resolution. Pretty sweet, if you have the spare scratch. Which you don’t. And neither do I. Maybe there’s a payment plan.

How about a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a 330W lamp capable of producing 5,000 lumens? It uses D-ILA (Digital Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier) technology, allowing it to display two or even four displays in WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) and full HD resolution simultaneously.

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on January 27th, 2010

This guy looks a little big to be a flash drive. Then again it is a Gundam. Straight from Bandai Japan, this GNO3 Gundam USB flash drive will protect your desk from other robots and evildoers. It comes in capacities of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB (We think).

It also comes pre-loaded with a GN03 game to pass the time when you should be working. Why not buy two and face them off against each other? If only they moved and I could have my own Rock Em Sock Em robots.

The Belkin Home Base merges wireless networking and USB connectivity in one device, with a small footprint. This gives users a simple way to share up to four USB devices from a central location. The Home Base will also allow one of your external hard drives to act as a media server if you have a DLNA set up.

It’s compatible with devices like the Xbox 360 or Sony PS3. Super convenient. We told you about this way back in September, but now it’s just $66 at Amazon. Better grab one.

Gameboy Advance cartridges turned into 4GB flash drives

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on January 22nd, 2010

I was never a big fan of the Gameboy Advance so I don’t have any cartridges lying around. But if I did, I would be turning them into flash drives, just like this one from etsy seller 8BitMemory. That cartridge above looks awesome as a functional USB flash drive.

Currently 8bit has several for sale including Metroid, Super Mario Advance, and Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. All the converted cartridges have a 4GB capacity and they retail for $39.99 each.

Buffalo Dualie Docking Station for iPhone and portable Hard Drives

Posted in Buffalo by Conner Flynn on January 17th, 2010

Dualie is a silly name, but fitting for this product. Buffalo has released the Buffalo Dualie. The Dualie is a 500GB portable hard drive, and a dock for your iPhone or iPod, allowing you to save some space on your desk, by docking both products together in one base.

Two in one. Dualie. Get it? Those folks at Buffalo sure are clever. It’s a much better name than doubly or SinglyX2. The device features 2 additional USB ports, and lets you sync your device with your computer and access the hard drive at the same time.

HP ships one of the first USB 3.0 laptops

Posted in USB 3.0 by Conner Flynn on January 14th, 2010

We are slowly but surely moving toward USB 3.0 and HP if now one of the first to ship a laptop with USB 3.0 ports. Specifically, these laptops are certain variations of the Envy 15 quad-core notebook, which will support the faster data transfers of up to 5Gbps.

USB 3.0 adoption has gotten off to a slow start, but HP doesn’t want to miss out. USB 3.0 is already being used for hard drives from LaCie and Western Digital and should be useful for SSDs that get bottlenecked by USB 2.0.

Tiniest 1080p PC is silent, enjoys Doublemint gum

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2010

Yes HTPCs are getting smaller and smaller. One day soon they will be the size of a flash drive, with flash drives being the size of a pebble. This crazy small PC has a Via EPIA-P820 Pico-ITX motherboard inside, and Via’s AMOS-3001 is the first PC to use it. It has COM ports and two USB ports on the front, and Ethernet, USB, and HDMI ports in back. It measures just 6 inches wide.

The 1.2GHz all-in-one VIA VX855 Media System Processor plays 1080p video as well. And yes the design is fanless, which keeps things silent. No pricing info just yet, but we should know more soon.

Sony PS3 Michael Jackson This is it Bundle

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on January 6th, 2010

We have just one question. Why? Why do we need a Michael Jackson PS3 bundle? MJ and gaming don’t exactly go hand in hand. Is it greed on Sony’s part? Of course. But then MJ’s family would like to sell a few as well, I’m sure.

Wait. Make that two questions. Who is going to buy this? Any of you? I guess the Japanese will buy some, but they’ll buy anything. The “This is it” PS3 bundle which will come with the Michael Jackson documentary of the same name for ¥33,500 (or $366). You’ll also get a 120GB Hard Disk Drive “Charcoal Black” PS3, a wireless DUALSHOCK 3, a power cord, one AV cable and one USB cable.

LG BD590, the First Blu-ray Player with an Integrated Hard Drive

Posted in Blu-ray by Conner Flynn on January 6th, 2010

LG’s new Blu-ray player won’t rip and store your movies, but the BD590 is still pretty decent. The BD590 will store your music, photos, downloaded movies, rip CDs etc, via USB or Ethernet port, though apparently not through its 802.11n Wi-Fi connection for some reason.

Unfortunately, no DVD and Blu-ray archiving. Which isn’t surprising for legal reasons. Anyway 250GB isn’t ideal for ripping Blu-Ray movies.

CES 2010: ASUS NX90Jq designed by Bang & Olufsen has dual touchpads

Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on January 5th, 2010

ASUS and Bang & Olufsen have been hanging out. They’ve decided to have a bro-mance. And we have to admit, this is one slick laptop. That polished aluminum exterior looks great. But it has more going for it than that.

Check out those dual touchpads that supposedly give you a DJ turntable-like experience. The high-def, 18.4-inch display is even flanked by B&O ICEpower speakers. Honestly what’s not to love? Under the hood there’s a Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 334M graphics, support for up to 1280GB of storage (with dual drives), a slot-in Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0.

AirStash wireless iPhone storage

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

iPhones and iPod Touches come in 32GB capacities now, but if you have an earlier model you may be stuck with 8GB. What can you do? Well, you can get an AirStash. The device adds wireless storage to your i-device so you can free up some internal storage.

It looks like a large flash drive with a USB plug on one end and an SD slot on the other. Just charge it, load some content on it and you are good to go. You can connect to it wirelessly from your handset. There are some security concerns, but hopefully they will be addressed real soon.
