About the size of a quarter, the DiskGO flash drive comes in 1GB to 16GB capacities. The most interesting thing about it is the Dmailer Backup software installed on it. It allows users to create an encrypted profile and set redundant file backups to the external hard drive. You can also archive past versions of files as they are modified for access later.

With Dmailer Backup, users can also back up files to a personal online “cloud” that can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet using a simple, search-engine type interface. Dmailer Backup doesn’t require any installation and is Mac and PC compatible. You can pre-order today and it will ship early next week.

Toshiba has a new range of portable hard drives that feature new system backup functionality and password-protected encryption for greater security. The drives will ship with pre-laoded software that’s compatible with both Mac and Windows. The included NTI BackupNow EZ software lets users backup the whole system and even restore the entire system if Windows fails to boot.

These Toshiba drives will come with password-protected security with up to 256-bit encryption. A Drive Space Alert feature will alert you when it is time to perform some digital cleaning. You can choose from white, blue, green and red.

It can be a pain trying to keep a flash drive on you at all times. If you have a normal style flash drive, you have to carry it on your key ring or in your pocket. I hate having lots of stuff on my key ring and I always forget anything other than my wallet or my cell phone if it is in my pocket.

A company called TopTechProducts has a slick little flash drive that is shaped like a credit card and designed to fit into your wallet. The drive measures 3.4-inches x 2.1-inches x 0.11-inches. It is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac computers.

Most students haven’t been out of school very long for the summer. Despite that fact, it’s already time for most parents to be gearing up for back to school shopping. If you have a student, going off to college a new notebook may be on the shopping list this year. Toshiba has announced a new series of notebooks perfect for students.

The series is called the Satellite L and starts at $549.99, not much more than some netbooks. The new line includes 14-inch L510 and L515 modes, 15.6-inch L500, 16-inch L505, and a 17.3-inch L550/555 model. The laptops have many features in common like HD TruBrite screens, sleep-and-charge USB ports, and hard drives with capacities from 250GB to 500GB.

Seagate has been busy lately. They’ve just updated their BlackArmor line with three new units, a 220 NAS that holds up to 4TB, a WS 100 external drive with eSATA and USB 2.0, and a PS 110 portable drive that holds up to 500GB.

The Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220 is available in late July for $449.99 for 2TB and $699.99 for 4TB. The Seagate BlackArmor WS 110 is available now at $159.99 for 1TB and $309.99 for 2TB. The Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 is also available now for $159.99 for 500GB.

Seagate’s giving its FreeAgent Go drives a new 640GB capacity. It may not be the first external to cross the 500GB threshold, but it’s certainly one of the slimmer ones, physically. Other than that, there’s nothing too special here.

It’s still the standard USB-connected with up to 480Mbps transfer with multiple color options. We don’t have any info on pricing or availability, but since Seagate’s posting promotional materials on its main site, it won’t be long.

The Sony VAIO NW is the latest 15-inch notebook from Sony featuring a fairly reasonable price tag. The base price is $880 and goes up from there. This one offers a 15.5-inch widescreen HD display with 1,366 x 768 resolution and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Yamaha just released its MusicCAST2 network music system that can wirelessly transmit music to 32 different rooms. At long last, we have something for all of that silence in our mansions. The MusicCAST2 supports various file formats including iTunes AAC, MP3, WMA, FLAC and WAV, and can play back tunes from iPods, Bluetooth devices and other Yamaha accessories with its built-in dock port.

If you prefer, you can even plug in USB flash drives and the MusicCAST2 can also pull audio from sources such as Rhapsody, Internet radio, PC and Macs and NAS devices.

Dane-Elec has decided to sell games in a new way. One that has nothing to do with the optical disc format but instead is in the form of a USB flash drive. As you might expect, these are bargain bin titles.

Dane-Elec will make available older titles like Rainbow Six Lockdown , Blazing Angels and Fashion Designer which are going for just $19.99 or $24.99, depending on the game. I guess the upside is that after the installation, and after you’ve beaten the game in a few hours, you can use them as standard USB flash drives.
