The big companies are always gunning for a piece of Apple’s portable media player market. So far, the road is littered with more corpses than even 300 Spartans can kill. Sony is hoping that their zany Zappin Walkman, shaped like a USB flash drive will be the charm.

It comes with 2GB of storage space, featuring Sony’s Drag and Drop technology for easy file transfer, is compatible with MP3 and WMA file formats, and has an integrated FM Tuner.

Kingston may have been faster, being the first out of the gate with a 128GB USB flash drive, but they are not the cheapest. Edge Tech is right behind them, with an offering that does away with some of the added security and ruggedness of Kingston’s and knocks $150 off the price.

Edge Tech’s DiskGO drive features 128GB storage capacity, with a durable aluminum housing and some basic encryption software for extra protection. For a savings of $150, you may want consider this one.

How we wish that Nintendo would get it together and offer these 4GB drives officially. Sigh. But at least they’re available on Etsy for $55 each. The Mario Brick comes in six feet varieties and costs only $19. There’s also Koopa, Goomba and the mushroom.

I remember when flash drives first started to come onto the market. The things at the time had capacities measured in low megabytes. Today the flash drive is a popular and widely adopted device with storage capacity rivaling many SSDs on the market.

Kingston has announced a new flash drive today called the DataTraveler 200, the first 128GB flash drive on the market. The drive features a capless design that uses a retractable USB connector to prevent damage and the user doesn’t have to worry about a lost cap.

Western Digital now has an upgrade to its 2TB My Book Studio Edition II. They’ve doubled the storage space and it also sports a new exterior design. In its RAID 0 configuration, you’ll find a couple of drive bays available to hold two 2TB hard drives for a total of 4TB of storage space.

It’s compatible with both PC and Mac platforms and the Western Digital 4TB My Book Studio Edition II has a variety of connectivity options including eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. The external capacity gauge will give you important information with just a quick glance.

Jointech has announced their new JE100 ebook reader, a 7-inch device that uses an LCD touchscreen instead of an e-ink display. Based on Windows CE 5.0, the Jointech JE100 will not only boast Mobipocket Reader, MSReader and eReader support, but also likely play back video and audio files together with viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents.

Inside it features a 400MHz CPU, 128MB of flash memory and 64MB of RAM. Transflash cards up to 4GB in capacity can be used to boost storage, and it rocks two USB ports: one a host, for plugging in external peripherals and the other a slave, for hooking up the JE100 to a computer where it presumably mounts as an external drive.

Pioneer is shipping three brand new Blu-ray players today. The trio initially debuted at CES, and now these Blu-ray players are making their way into the world. They include the Elite BDP-23FD, which has a Precision Quartz Lock System and capacitors to please audiophiles. Some other features include BD Live Support, 7.1-channel audio, RS-232 support and 48-bit color.

Next is the BDP-320, which also has PQLS, BD Live support, 48-bit color and high quality, but lacks the design of the Elite. The BDP-120 has 36-bit color, USB storage and a 1GB external hard drive. It does not have PQLS.

It’s just 33mm thick and weighs 1.4kg, with a 13.3-inch display, integrated DVD burner and 2GB of RAM. It uses the VIA 1.3GHz Nano U2250 processor with the unified VIA VX800 MSP and discrete S3 Graphics Chrome 435 ULP graphics, making a great HD-capable machine.

There’s room for a 2.5-inch SATA hard-drive, WiFi b/g and 10/100 ethernet, plus a 4-in-1 card reader, ExpressCard slot, HDMI and VGA ports along with two USB 2.0 ports. The standard battery is a six-cell, but it can be upgraded by removing the DVD burner and slotting in an optional three-cell secondary.

SilverPac has announced their SilverFrame Advanced Digital Picture Frame (ADPF) at Computex 2009, and this is no cheap photo display, like you are used to seeing in bargain bins.
