It’s powered by onboard batteries that can be charged via USB or an AC adapter. Of course, it’s designed to work with Heinz’s very own single-serving cans of Chef Boyardee foods. We still don’t have any details on pricing or availability.

SKYlaser Power Adjustable Laser Review

Posted in Review by Darrin Olson on June 16th, 2009

SKYlaser adjustable power laserThe guys over at SKYlaser gave us the opportunity recently to check out there version of a 150mW green laser pointer with a unique adjustable power feature. We’ve reviewed a number of types of lasers and laser pointers here on the ‘Brick but this is the first we’ve gotten our hands on one that has this type of adjustable power.

The nice thing about getting a powerful laser of this caliber is just that; it’s powerful. This laser has enough oomph to put a green dot on something from pretty much as far away as you can see, and that’s during the day. At night it makes a seemingly unending saber-like beam of green laser light visible for miles.

Activetrax AM/FM radio, MP3 speaker

Posted in MP3 by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2009

Activetrax AM/FM radio, MP3 speakerWe’re always on the lookout for MP3 speakers, so we had a chance to check out this one from Seattle Sports Co. “Activetrax On the go audio”. It’s designed for camping situations and features AM/FM, weatherband and also serves as an MP3 speaker. It comes with it’s own protective case and can operate by either solar or crank power. So it would seem to be ideal for camping.

As an MP3 speaker, it does the job, but don’t expect high quality sound. It gets pretty loud, but as with most of these type of speakers, the louder you crank it, the more sound problems you have.

Non-Shaking Cocktail Cyclone makes Tom Cruise sad

Posted in Kitchen by Conner Flynn on April 29th, 2009

Non-Shaking Cocktail Cyclone makes Tom Cruise sadWhat kind of a world are we living in where we make gadgets for people who are too lazy to shake/stir? If this Non-Shaking Cocktail Cyclone had existed and was widely used years ago, the movie Cocktail would have been completely different and completely boring.

Just press a button and the cyclone action begins. This baby will hold 16 Ounces and runs on 2 AAA batteries. It’s just one of a bunch of gadgets that make us so lazy that in the future, human arms will de-volve into T-rex type baby arms.

MIT working on Virus powered batteries

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2009

MIT working on Virus powered batteries Typically a battery functions with lithium ions flowing between a negatively charged anode, usually graphite, and the positively charged cathode, usually cobalt oxide or lithium iron phosphate. But three years ago, an MIT team reported that it had engineered viruses that could build an anode by coating themselves with cobalt oxide and gold and self-assembling to form a nanowire. The “virus batteries” have the energy capacity and power performance similar to rechargeable batteries.

The prototype battery is a coin battery, but the idea is that cell and larger batteries could be made from this process and that one day it will power cars, boats and everything else. As it stands right now, it can go at least 100 charges before performance goes down. That will change of course.

The Timelapse Garden video camera

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2009

The Timelapse Garden video cameraHere’s a cool video camera from Hammacher Schlemmer, specifically designed to create a timelapse video of your garden so that you can keep track of your garden’s progress. Pretty neat. You could make your own Discovery Channel type movie.

It features two different capture modes: as close as 20-inches or a 54-inch wide field of view with the capability to take a picture at one of six preset intervals. Anything from every 5 seconds to every 24 hours and it combines them into a single 1280 x 1024 resolution AVI movie file. Nice.
