Make your HDTV look retro and stylish

Posted in Television by Conner Flynn on April 4th, 2010

Remember the old days when TVs were more a piece of furniture? They were stylish and had substance and they were so heavy that once you put it in it’s place, it stayed there forever. TVs have slimmed down a lot since then and they’ve lost all of their good looks with the weight.

Halden-Caviglia TV sets want to bring back the retro TV using today’s technology. You can choose a screen between 42 inches and 65 inches in a bunch of Art Deco and American Craftsman styles, and the company even offers an IR repeater so your remote can communicate with the TV through all of that wood.

Boxetti transforming home theater: A big box of ugly

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on January 17th, 2010

We love home theater systems. The large sound and movie experience is awesome. But it can be challenging setting up all of the speakers and the rest of it. The Boxetti Thrill might make things easier, keeping it all in one place. It’s a home theater cabinet from Lithuanian designer Rolands Landsbergs.

When not in use, it looks like an ugly piece of furniture, a washer maybe, but when it’s movie time, it opens up Transformers style to reveal a full home theater rig including speakers and a flat screen TV on a motorized lift. There’s even hidden storage area for your DVDs and Blu-Rays. Problem is it doesn’t get any less fugly.

SunBrite TV lets you watch the big game outside

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I live in Texas so there are only about three months out of the entire year when it’s nice to be outside. For the other nine months of the year, it is either too hot or too cold to even think about outdoors. If you live in a more temperate area and like to watch TV outside SunBrite has a new set for you called the 5510HD.

The TV has full 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is enclosed in a cabinet that prevents dust, bugs, and water from damaging the sensitive electronics. A fan also allows the TV to operate in temperatures of up to 122 degrees. The contrast ratio for the set is 4000:1.

Zvox unveils IncrediBase 575 home theater

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on September 9th, 2009

zvoxbase-sbI like home theater systems, but I am not a fan of all the wires that go along with them. Wireless systems are available, but the speakers still typically need to be plugged into an AC outlet creating issues of their own.

Zvox has announced a new IncrediBase cabinet that offers a simulated surround sound experience with all the speakers needed for the system crammed into one cabinet that sits under your TV. The IncrediBase 575 has a 133-watt amp, dual 6.5-inch long-extrusion subs, and five full range speakers in one cabinet.

Guy turns HDTV into awesome digital pinball machine

Posted in HDTV by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2009

You may have noticed that it’s difficult to find arcades these days, no matter how many hours you drive around blasting some Loverboy or Huey Lewis and the News. It ain’t the 80s. What’s a Pinball enthusiast to do? You make some killer pinball games yourself, that’s what!

Take one BadBoyBill, who happens to be the admin of the HyperSpin forums. He used an HDTV, an LCD monitor and a 3D pinball program to build his own 1080p pinball machine. Oh yeah. Now you’re drooling and thinking back to those days at the arcade. The cabinet he created recreates the whole pinball experience and he can play any game he wants on the same machine. That is genius. Absolute genius.

The TVH 600 stands out with it’s touchscreen on top. Hell. everything else has a touchscreen, why not your heater right? If that doesn’t make it stand out enough for ya, it also has it’s own remote. With the remote, you can adjust the temperature of the heater, and it will work like a thermostat. That means that the TVH 600 will heat the room as it detects the temperature going down.

All parents should have this little gadget, It keeps your booze where it belongs and safe from the throats of greedy drinkers. If you want a drink, you are going to have to crack the three digit code.(How hard can that be?, thinks the salivating alcohol thief.) Hopefully no one breaks the neck of the bottle trying to get this thing off.

This will stop your delinquent children from raiding the liquor cabinet and then watering down the liquid so you won’t notice, while you are away at work. Now you’ve stopped those little tyrants!
