Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on May 26th, 2011

Keeping your phone juiced up while at a festival or large event is hard to do. Some independent companies have even set up camps and charge festival-goers to power their smartphones. But now the Vodafone VIP recharging truck is on the road and headed to 11 festivals this year.

The truck offers Vodafone customers the opportunity to charge up completely free of charge. That way you can go on snapping pics and texting away. This 44 ton vehicle can charge 2,000 devices at once just as quickly as it would at home. They are expecting to charge over 72,000 mobile devices this summer alone. That’s a lot of juice.

Posted in HP by Conner Flynn on January 26th, 2011

Sure, we’ve seen the iPad fitted into a vehicle’s dashboard before, but it’s still not a very common occurrence. Besides, how often do you see a Windows 7 tablet installed in a vehicle? This is the first time as far as we know.

When HP decided to open its Vancouver store, it customized a GMC Yukon Denali truck with an HP Slate embedded in the dash. I guess they want you to get a spare tablet to integrate into your vehicle so they can double sales.

U.S. Navy tests a new Railgun

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on December 12th, 2010

Railguns have some serious power and while we are used to seeing them in the movies, the government is always busy testing out new ways to use them. The U.S. Navy just fired a metal projectile that destroyed a target a hundred miles away.

The railgun’s operation is pretty straightforward. It uses an electrical charge measured in megajoules as a propellant, which allows the large ordnance to be fired and detonated quickly. The recent test struck the distant target in a matter of minutes.

Workers at a shipping facility in Brampton, Ontario discovered on Monday that a trailer containing $500,000 worth of Sony goods was stolen. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the very next day a second trailer went missing containing even more PS3 and PSP games and hardware.

The trailers appeared to have been stolen while they were parked and the driver was away. One had a Nebraska license plate, the other was from Ontario. If you see either-who are we kidding? You will be too busy playing Black Ops to care.

Apple licenses tech from TV guide maker Rovi

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2010

Apple never rests and as proof, an SEC filing today revealed that it has struck a “multi-year agreement” with Rovi in what may be a strategy to support the new Apple TV. The terms are secret, but will let Apple license Rovi’s technology over the course of the deal. Neither company has commented yet.

It’s hard to say what Apple would use the tech for. The company makes interactive program guide material that taps into TV channel lineups. It also makes software for set-top boxes to access and share media stored both on the Internet and the local network. So Apple TV is a good guess.

The Apple leaks just keep on trucking and leaking like a old faucet. Taiwanese site Apple.pro says that the next generation iPhone may come in an completely white version. According to them these photos are proof. It’s good enough for us. And besides, Apple has done it before.

But as we remember, most people wanted the black version. Maybe they just won’t bother offering the white one up in Australia this time around.

Cellphone encased in marble

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 8th, 2010

A cellphone made of marble is bound to be heavy. It’s what your rich caveman dude would be making deals on if cavemen had such devices. There are some advantages to stone cellphones. It can be used as a weapon should you be attacked, it will survive drops from super high and you can carve pretty primitive pictures on it even.

Sadly this is just a concept. The Mobiado CPT001 is not available. The shipments would weigh too much for trucks to haul anyway. Sorry Fred and Barney.

FedEx rolls out electric trucks

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2010

FedEx wants to go greener, so this week it rolled out its first all-electric FedEx delivery trucks in the United States. Starting in June, FedEx will be sending the first four electric vans out on the roads of Los Angeles, saving energy as they go.

We have no idea just how much these vehicles cost, but the truck’s 80kWh battery alone is “well above the cost of a large luxury sedan,” according to FedEx’s VP of Global Vehicles John Formisano. We hope that despite high costs, FedEx continues with this and gets more of these trucks on the road.
