Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2011

Word on the street is that Samsung is expected to announce a new W200 shock+waterproof pocket cam with full HD video capabilities. It looks nice and sporty doesn’t it? Looks like it can take a decent beating. The sensor resolution will be 5MP (back side illuminated).

So feel free to carry this one with you on your Indiana Jones type adventures, stopping to snap a pic occasionally as you outrun enemies and uncover buried treasures. Or just, you know, take it with you on vacation. The announcement should be in a few days.

Metal detecting geek finds $1M in Roman coins

Posted in treasure by Shane McGlaun on July 12th, 2010

One summer my cousin had a metal detector and we went all around the beach on vacaiton lookgin for buried treasure. The closest we can to treasure was a bunch of those old-fashioned pull tops from cans and someone’s lost glasses.

A guy in the UK has had much better luck than I ever did with a metal detector. The person was working in a field in south-west England and discovered a pot filled with Roman coins. The pot held 52,500 coins and the estimated worth of the coins today is about $1 million.

ReZap Battery Engineer recharges normal batteries

Posted in Batteries by Shane McGlaun on April 21st, 2010

Normally when we buy batteries that aren’t specifically designed to be rechargeable, we simply throw them away when they go dead. A company called PC Treasures is bringing a cool device to the US called the Battery Engineer that might change that.

The device is a charging system that claims to be able to recharge disposable batteries as many as ten times. It supports multiple size battery charging and can charge four different batteries at once.

Brick Pic: Pirate Keyboard

Posted in Brick Pic by Conner Flynn on November 4th, 2009

Pirate KeyboardIt’s a historical fact that Pirates don’t have a lot to say. They communicate mostly with scowls and grunts. When they do have to say something while sailing the high seas, plundering booty and hunting for treasures, it’s usually just “Arrrrr”.

So a Pirate’s keyboard keeps things simple with just the basic essential pirate keys. Arrrrrr. Avast. Even this keyboard, simple as it is, is hard to operate with a hook hand.

TB-007 metal detecting robot

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on August 20th, 2009

Here’s a much better way to get rich than the metal detecting sandals and it will take just as long to amass your wealth. Why wear sandals when a robot can do it for you? ThunderBird 007 is the latest version of Let’s Make Robots user Gareth’s metal detector robots.

It’s a great little bot. And when you think about it, robots should search for treasure and earn their own keep and pay for their own parts. The TB-007 features a metal detecting wand, wireless camera and a laser pointer to point out it’s finds. It could get really fun if you run into another guy controlling his own bot and have to have your robots fight for the treasure.

Metal Detecting Sandals

Metal Detecting SandalsThey won’t get you very far very fast as you walk, stop and dig for treasure, but at least you’ll keep busy. If you are already walking around with a metal detector and a large set of headphones, this should improve your look at least.

These metal detecting sandals will help to keep others away from your treasure too, because they are much more subtle than the typical detector. The right sandal connects to a removable battery pack that’s strapped to your calf and a coil in the sandals does all the work.

App turns Android G1 into metal detector

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on May 1st, 2009

Someone created an application to detect metal using the Android G1. This isn’t because the G1 is so much more awesome than other smartphones. It’s done through clever use of the built-in compass. A compass detects the magnetic field of the Earth.

Sadly it won’t help you find treasure at the beach. Think of it more like the ones they use in airports. The kind that let you magically pass your hands over someone’s body to see if they are hiding metal somewhere. Which is great I guess. If you are security in the lowest budget airport ever.

Amazing Angelis Labor Gabriel luxury turntable

Posted in Turntables by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2008

Amazing Angelis Labor Gabriel luxury turntableThe “Gabriel” turntable from Angelis Labor resembles a starship construction yard more than a fancy record player. Four separate arms will ride the grooves of your vinyl treasures on a platter that is suspended on a magnetically levitated spindle. Mmmm. Shiny and nice. Four arms are better then one, I guess.

If you actually had a robot willing to play your old records, this is pretty much what it would look like. The price is just as mind-blowing of course “between $27k-$64k”. I know that some of you will disagree, but is the sound that you are going to get from vinyl ever worth that much money?

Or maybe you have been looking for an excuse to hang your iPhone on the tree. Well my friends, for $30 you can dress your iPhone like a Christmas hooker with these cases from More.

At last your iPhone can look like a 3G street walker and hang out with all of your treasured ornaments. The mirrored screen protector and form-fitting plastic casing should protect it adequately from falls when your cat shakes the tree.

A sub which doubles as a powerboat…how cool is that?

Posted in submarines by Nino Marchetti on March 24th, 2008

hyper-sub.jpgIt looks like something out of a James Bond movie but it could very well be the most cool personal sub yet. It’s the Marion Hyper Sub and you’ll find that while there is no price as of yet, you can damm well bet you’ll need to be diving for treasure to pay for this once it appears at your local port of call.

The Marion Hyper Sub is described by Tuvie as a “submersible powerboat.” What exactly does this mean? Think powerboat meets sub. It can reportedly run with the big boys on the surface at decent speeds and take you down underneath the waves when things start to get rough in the cloudy skies above.

Virtual World, Real Legal Trouble

Second Life lawsuit filed in real lifeWith the rise of massive multiplayer online games (MMOs for short), players went off in search of gold, slaying monsters or waging war in virtual universes. Of course, their real world sins followed with them and soon you started to hear about players killing players in cold blood (spawn killing), making money through shady means (gold farming) or even throwing away their real-life marriages in favor of a new relationship they made online.

The world of “Second Life” is an MMO where people don’t quest for treasure or slay orcs but …
