Kempler unveils W PhoneWatchKempler & Strauss has just unveiled the W PhoneWatch, which looks like a great watch/phone. It’s similar to the LG GD910 but smaller. Despite the small size, no stylus is needed for the touchscreen interface. What you get is a full media phone with 4GB of storage and a microSD card slot and it will play videos and music.

But why stop there? It can also use its camera for video recording. Bundled with the W PhoneWatch is a matching Bluetooth headset called the Communicator. The phone is a quad-band GSM device and should work on AT&T and T-Mobile for voice. They don’t mention EDGE or 3G for data.

More LG Arena KM900 detailsYesterday we took a look at LG’s somewhat familiar Arena KM900 phone, and now more details are available, though LG is still keeping a few things to themselves.

Looks like this one will feature GSM/UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, a high-resolution 3-inch 800×480 touchscreen display and mobile TV. Apparently the phone measures only 11.5mm thick, just a tad slimmer than the iPhone. Folks in Europe may get it as soon as next month from T-Mobile Germany. Stay tuned for more on this one.

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on December 4th, 2008

Kogan Agora: The latest Google Android smartphoneGoogle’s open-source Android cell phone operating system can be found on the T-Mobile G1, but soon the G1 will no longer be alone. The Agora from Australian cell phone maker Kogan will be the next to feature Android.

Sure, it looks like the lovechild of a Blackberry Bold, and a Samsung Blackjack, but that just means that phones are getting smart enough to mate and swap good genes. It will feature a 2.5-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, and a nice Qwerty keyboard.

Android Virtual Keyboard coming next year

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on October 23rd, 2008

Android Virtual Keyboard coming next yearWhile people love the G1 and it has an excellent keyboard…and it’s only been available for about a day, many users are already complaining that they cannot type in landscape mode.

Never fear, according to the Android development roadmap, we’ll be getting a touchscreen keyboard in Q1 2009 that features “a dictionary of suggestions and a suggestion algorithm.” So it will basically work like the iPhone keyboard. Great news as many find it annoying, having to slide open the G1 every time they want to enter some data.

T-Mobile has announced a smartphone that many have been waiting for.

The T-Mobile G1 is the first smartphone to be announced running the Google Android operating system. Android is open source and allows for lots of customization. The G1 offers 3G broadband and EDGE network connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS and more. A slide out QWERTY keyboard complements the touch screen.

The world’s smallest camera phone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on September 7th, 2008

The world’s smallest camera phoneWe love our gadgets small, but sometimes it can get ridiculous. You are looking at the world’s smallest cell phone. The Xun Chi 138. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, a touch screen with hand writing recognition, mp3 player and GPRS capabilities. It weighs just 55grams and measures a tiny 2.64 inches in length. It’s described as a “dual band GSM phone that supports GSM networks in Europe, Australia and parts of Asia, but does not work on North American GSM networks such as Cingular/Cellular One, T-Mobile, Rogers, Fido/Microcell, SunCom, Dobson, Edge Wireless, Alltel, Petrocom, Union, Pegaso/Movistar, Radiomovil/Telcel etc.” As you can see it’s ridiculously tiny, about the same size as a AA battery. Mini-Me would probably dig it, but some of us already have trouble with the buttons on our normal sized phones.

Longest mobile phone ever is insane

Longest mobile phone ever is insane
I’m going to refrain from doing size doesn’t matter jokes, or perpetuating various stereotypes. Instead I’m just going to say that smoking crack while designing phones is not a good idea. The NEED Phone(As in I need a smaller damn phone) is the longest mobile phone concept we’ve seen yet.

You won’t find any extra features, aside from the fact that it makes a nice weapon. You won’t find a MP3 player, or video capabilities, or even a camera. It does have a touchscreen. In fact, it’s got 2 touchscreens. One is an OLED that displays basic info, while the other is where you do things like scroll forever. This thing is so damn long you could listen to your call on one end while your penis talks it’s head off on the other, for God’s sake.

iPhone hitting the UK and Germany Friday

Posted in Apple, News, iPhone by Darrin Olson on November 8th, 2007

iPhone to be released in the UK and Germany on FridayOn Friday the long wait is over for many law-abiding citizens of the UK and Germany as the Apple iPhone will be (officially) sold for the first time in countries other than the United States. The iPhone will be sold through O2 in the UK and T-Mobile in Germany and surprisingly will still be lacking the fast and common 3G connection that is already prevalent with many existing smartphones in those areas. Pricing is expected to be 269 pounds in the U.K. and 399 euros in Germany, which both convert to roughly in the high $500’s USD.

The new iPhones are expected to be basically the same models that the U.S. customers have received although they will come preloaded with the OS X 1.1.2 version which has a fix for the latest hacks that allow 3rd party apps to run on it, which will make it just a little bit harder for hackers to unlock in the next go-round. Apple is likely betting that the cool dual-touch screen interface and media playing integration will overshadow the lack of high-speed data connections with 3G, and users will be satisfied with a jumping from hotspot to hotspot instead. France will be the next country to get their hands on the iPhone later this month through Orange where Apple may run into problems with French law and restrictions on locking phones to exclusive carriers.
