USB Alien with Illuminated Tongue

USB Alien with Illuminated TongueCheck out this awesome USB Alien figure. Since it plugs into your USB port, it must have some storage right? At least 2GB. Nope. Apparently all it does is stick its illuminated tongue out.

The head or limbs don’t even move. Why they wouldn’t give it storage, we have no idea. It’s supposed to be scary, but it’s actually pretty cute. Unless you are a pint sized Ripley, in which case this thing is pretty easy to kill.

World Cup Soccer Players USB drives

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on June 25th, 2009

World Cup Soccer Players USB drivesSome call it soccer, others call it football. Some just know it as that sport they played once that got them kicked in the groin. Whatever you call it in your country, it’s a little known fact that the heads of these athletes are removable and store data.

How do you think they come up with their game plan in the locker room? Did you think the coach simply talks to them while pointing a stick at a chalkboard? No, that would be silly. Instead, each 1 GB player removes his head and plugs himself into a port, becoming part of the team “collective” and downloading game plans. Their endgame? World domination with Pele as their new God.

X-men Papercraft figures are fairly awesome, still UncannyThese paper toys are cute and they aren’t afraid to do battle with paper villains. But paper cuts can be deadly to them. You can download them at harlancore for free, print them out and start folding one. After that, just play with them on your desk. There’s Spiderman, Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto and Professor X. And they are all sticking their tongues out at you. There are more characters available as well, like Storm, Beast etc. Nerd toys don’t get much cuter.

Rock Band bleeds into the real world

Rock Band bleeds into the real worldApparently Harmonix has some interesting new features in store for RockBand.com. The site will be getting a complete overhaul with features sure to make any plastic instrument playing nerd wet himself a little. Some of the new features are an online photo creator for photo shoots with your Rock Band 2 band so you can use the pictures online.

Next, users can link these photos to real-world merchandising like posters, T-shirts, stickers for your band etc. If that isn’t geeky enough, and I’m sure it’s not for some, you can get action figures made from your band members “for about 70 bucks”. Looks like music games are no longer just about songs and fake instruments. Now they’re also about bringing fake bands into the real world where they can all annoy each other and realize that on a real instrument they suck.

Augmented Reality Cyber Maid Alice for lonely nerds

Augmented Reality Cyber Maid Alice for lonely nerds
Humanity has accomplished some amazing things by combining virtual reality with plain ole reality. This is not one of those things. This is something designed to give randy nerds a few cheap thrills. The idea is that if you can’t find a girlfriend, Alice will take a shot at being the object of your affections.

It’s called “Dennou Figure ARis”, or “Cyber Figure Alice” in plain English. Buyers get the AR software, 2 cybersticks and 2 cybercubes. Place one of the cubes in front of the computer, point your webcam at it and the screen will display a 3D image of Alice standing on top of the cube. Here’s where your cybersticks come in handy. You’ll use them to touch, caress, fondle and peep at your new lady. Fear not, you can of course even undress Alice and change her clothes.

The B-membrane computer concept

The B-membrane computer concept
If you figure PCs should look like a bizarre abstract UFO, or maybe resemble a Sit and Spin type toy with a CD tray sticking out, you are not alone. Designer Won-Seok Lee apparently agrees.

The B-membrane computer concept does away with monitors entirely, instead opting for a built-in projector that will beam the display onto any surface. The membrane keyboard shows up whenever it’s needed as well as a built-in optical drive. It will probably be some time before we see something like this become a reality. It’s just not that easy to make a PC of the future look like the inside of a washing machine.

Seiko Slimstick is like a tiny Richard Simmons

Posted in Exercise Gadgets by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2008

Seiko Slimstick is like a tiny Richard SimmonsPedometers are nothing new. They count the number of steps you take. Problem is, they don’t translate that figure into what’s needed to burn off all that junk food you cram down your pie-hole. Seiko has the answer in the form of it’s Slimstick. It’s like a tiny Richard Simmons in that it won’t let you cheat, no matter how hard you try and it is an exercise know-it-all. It won’t wear short shorts, talk all lispy and get into a fight with Dave Letterman…I hope.

It measures all of the work you do as you go about your day. It doesn’t just measure the number of steps you take, it uses sophisticated dual-axis accelerometers to measure the actual amount of work that is being done. With that information it calculates the number of calories burned. It will also store information about your routine, so that it can show you how you are progressing over time. It’s only the size of a pack of gum, so it won’t get in your way. The Slimstick is available in a variety of designer colors and finishes for around $60-70. But only in Japan.

Tell time with the Stonehenge watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on October 26th, 2007

The Stonehenge watch actually tells timeJust when you think you’ve seen everything, some backwards thinker has put Stonehenge in a pocket watch casing along with a compass. It’s truly unique among watches, with the miniature rocks aligned up exactly as they are at the real Stonehenge.

The best part is that it actually tells time. You use the compass to find and face North. Then you insert the gnomon (The fancy stick in the middle. What do they teach you in school?) in front of the altar. Now, just look at the shadows that it creates and you will see the real time. Very cool. The kind of thing your friends will be impressed by. Obviously, with this watch you will be out of luck at night time or in the dark, but that’s the price you pay for nice things.

Ambient Umbrella: lots of $$ for a weather forecast

Posted in Outdoors,Weather Stations by Nino Marchetti on July 30th, 2007

Ambient UmbrellaThough this item is somewhat of a novelty since you can just look up in the sky to see the weather, it could still help keep you dry if you plan early enough ahead. When the skies darken don’t forget to check the weather forecasting handle of your Ambient Umbrella.

The Ambient Umbrella uses a special narrowband broadcast solution to receive weather data from Accuweather.com up to 12 hours ahead.
