Hey, we love anything that turns your iPad into a mini arcade system. So we cheered when we learned that Ion Audio’s iCade Arcade Cabinet for the Apple iPad, passed through the FCC today. Just slide your iPad into the $100 cabinet, connect to the iCade via Bluetooth, and you’re ready to relive your arcade days.

The iCade packs in an arcade-style joystick, six numbered buttons and two “enter” buttons. And you can download free games for the iCade from Apple’s App Store. The Atari Greatest Hits app is already configured to work with the iCade, and you can download additional games through the Atari Greatest Hits app. It takes 2 AA batteries.

And they are all sticking their tongues out at you. There are more characters available as well, like Storm, Beast etc. Nerd toys don’t get much cuter.

Apparently Harmonix has some interesting new features in store for RockBand.com. The site will be getting a complete overhaul with features sure to make any plastic instrument playing nerd wet himself a little. Some of the new features are an online photo creator for photo shoots with your Rock Band 2 band so you can use the pictures online.

Next, users can link these photos to real-world merchandising like posters, T-shirts, stickers for your band etc. If that isn’t geeky enough, and I’m sure it’s not for some, you can get action figures made from your band members “for about 70 bucks”. Looks like music games are no longer just about songs and fake instruments. Now they’re also about bringing fake bands into the real world where they can all annoy each other and realize that on a real instrument they suck.

Humanity has accomplished some amazing things by combining virtual reality with plain ole reality. This is not one of those things. This is something designed to give randy nerds a few cheap thrills. The idea is that if you can’t find a girlfriend, Alice will take a shot at being the object of your affections.

It’s called “Dennou Figure ARis”, or “Cyber Figure Alice” in plain English. Buyers get the AR software, 2 cybersticks and 2 cybercubes. Place one of the cubes in front of the computer, point your webcam at it and the screen will display a 3D image of Alice standing on top of the cube. Here’s where your cybersticks come in handy. You’ll use them to touch, caress, fondle and peep at your new lady. Fear not, you can of course even undress Alice and change her clothes.

If you figure PCs should look like a bizarre abstract UFO, or maybe resemble a Sit and Spin type toy with a CD tray sticking out, you are not alone. Designer Won-Seok Lee apparently agrees.

The B-membrane computer concept does away with monitors entirely, instead opting for a built-in projector that will beam the display onto any surface. The membrane keyboard shows up whenever it’s needed as well as a built-in optical drive. It will probably be some time before we see something like this become a reality. It’s just not that easy to make a PC of the future look like the inside of a washing machine.

Pedometers are nothing new. They count the number of steps you take. Problem is, they don’t translate that figure into what’s needed to burn off all that junk food you cram down your pie-hole. Seiko has the answer in the form of it’s Slimstick. It’s like a tiny Richard Simmons in that it won’t let you cheat, no matter how hard you try and it is an exercise know-it-all. It won’t wear short shorts, talk all lispy and get into a fight with Dave Letterman…I hope.

It measures all of the work you do as you go about your day. It doesn’t just measure the number of steps you take, it uses sophisticated dual-axis accelerometers to measure the actual amount of work that is being done. With that information it calculates the number of calories burned. It will also store information about your routine, so that it can show you how you are progressing over time. It’s only the size of a pack of gum, so it won’t get in your way. The Slimstick is available in a variety of designer colors and finishes for around $60-70. But only in Japan.

Just when you think you’ve seen everything, some backwards thinker has put Stonehenge in a pocket watch casing along with a compass. It’s truly unique among watches, with the miniature rocks aligned up exactly as they are at the real Stonehenge.

The best part is that it actually tells time. You use the compass to find and face North. Then you insert the gnomon (The fancy stick in the middle. What do they teach you in school?) in front of the altar. Now, just look at the shadows that it creates and you will see the real time. Very cool. The kind of thing your friends will be impressed by. Obviously, with this watch you will be out of luck at night time or in the dark, but that’s the price you pay for nice things.

Bill Gates showcased OQO’s newest UMPC, the model 02, during his keynote address at CES 2007 in Las Vegas. The model 02 is a fully-featured, pocket-sized PC that is capable of supporting Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system.
