Ironman flash drive not powered by Arc Reactor

Posted in Storage by Shane McGlaun on May 11th, 2010

My son has been asking me to take him to see Ironman 2 since the first preview ran on TV. We went to see the flick last Friday when it opened and we were both pretty bored after only a bit of the movie had aired. It is far from as good as the first flick in the franchise.

I can only hope that the Ironman flash drive from Tyme Machines is more fun than the movie turned out to be. The company also makes flash drives that are sculpted to look like Star Wars characters.

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2009

New Trek movie loaded on 4GB Star Trek Flash DriveStar Trek merchandising is only surpassed by Star Wars merchandising. Well, here’s the latest Merchandising Trek. The new film is being released on individually numbered 4GB Starfleet insignia USB drives. Yes, I too just heard ten million geeks sigh.

The drive is loaded with DRM, but you can run it on 5 registered devices and burn it to DVD, so that’s not too bad. It will cost you $29. Not sure what that amounts to in Starfleet credits, but it seems like an okay deal.

Like other Mimobots, the Halo flash drives will play sound effects when you remove them from or insert them into your computer. These are available in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities for $20, $25, $35 and $50, respectively.

Custom Luke Skywalker USB drive

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on July 27th, 2009

Custom Luke Skywalker USB driveWe’ve seen our share of Star Wars USB drives around here. This one is by far the best, recreating that classic moment in Empire when Darth Vader cuts Luke’s hand off.

It was created by a talented Engadget reader. Obviously the USB input is accessed by severing Luke’s hand, which you can do again and again if you need to relive that classic moment. Why Luke’s face is melted is unclear. It’s not like he looked inside the Ark of the Covenant.

Elecom 10-Port USB hub

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on July 22nd, 2009

Elecom 10-Port USB hubChances are your laptop only came with three or four USB 2.0 ports. You probably have more USB toys than ports. You could always opt for an octopus USB Hub or a Star Wars droid USB hub, but If you want something a little more conservative, with even more ports, this one is for you.

The U2H-Z10S 10-port USB hub from Elecom. The slim USB hub even comes with a magnet so you can place it almost anywhere out of your way. You can pre-order the Elecom 10-port USB hub for 9,500 Yen or $101. Whichever you have. It’s all good.

R2-Q5 USB hub

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on July 16th, 2009

R2-Q5 USB hubSure, the obvious choice would be to buy an R2-D2 USB hub, but this guy is cool because he has that dark side look. Serious nerds know who he is already, despite the fact that R2-Q5 was only in the movie for like 2 seconds.

To the rest of you, all you need to know is that R2 was painted black and given a new name so that George Lucas could keep himself in flannel for another million years while he writes scripts in his crypt and while wearing pajamas and hugging a Jar Jar plush toy.

Funko Star Wars 2GB USB Flash Drives

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on June 29th, 2009

Funko Star Wars 2GB USB Flash DrivesThese are not a set of new Mimobots. They are figurine like USB flash drives from Funko that make Star Wars characters adorable. Specifically Darth Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett, and the Stormtrooper.

These 2GB USB flash drives come with no pre-loaded content which is fine, because you are buying them for cuteness alone. The packaging says that this is Series 1. So there should be more coming soon. They’ll be available at Entertainment Earth in October for $24.99

R2-D2 Pez Dispenser USB Flash Drive

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on June 16th, 2009

R2D2 Pez Dispenser USB Flash DriveAn R2D2 Pez Dispenser is a pretty cool geek toy by itself. But it’s even better when that R2 Pez dispenser is also a USB flash drive. Candy + storage = Awesome. More impressive, it is still a working Pez dispenser.

It can’t hold quite as much as an un-tampered with dispenser, but that’s still pretty awesome, because the lost candy is replaced with storage. It can only hold 3 pieces of Pez. Hey, the important thing is that it can hold any at all. It will hold 2GB of data.

You-SB body implant for hardcore transfers

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2009

You-SB body implant for hardcore transfersAlways losing your flash drives? Like body modifications a little too much? It’s all a question of how important your data is. Forget what you saw in the Star Wars prequels. This is how Anakin started to go bad.

It starts with a simple USB finger and before you know it your entire hand is a mass of ports, some inputs, some outputs. Then the standard changes and you have to sacrifice the other hand. Where does it end? Probably with a scrollwheel on your nads. This is purely a “visualization” project, but you know it will happen.
