Seagate has just announced the latest FreeAgent Go USB 2.0 drive, a small external HDD with a 2.5-inch 500GB disc, with about 20GB that’s already claimed. That’s because Seagate has partnered with Paramount Pictures in order to pre-load these drives with Star Trek, which can be unlocked after you register the drive.

There are also 20 other titles pre-loaded, which can be unlocked through the online purchase of a license key, with pricing ranging from $9.99 to $14.99 per film. And if you aren’t impressed, you can always just delete them.

It’s no coincidence that there’s a new Trek movie just as Dream Cheeky will be releasing a USB VoIP/Skype phone in the form of geek gold: A replica of the communicators used on the original Star Trek TV series.

Supposedly it has “complete reading and math curriculum that is aligned with all of the major reading and math programs,” inside of the device. The idea is to help substitute the learning that Kindergarten through second grade students already get. The company is non-profit, so they only charge for the cost of manufacturing the device, which is $50. However, the reading and math programs will cost $20 per student. They will start rolling them out at 500 Chicago elementary schools.
