Acer’s DX241H Web Station

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on April 21st, 2011

You always have your tablets and phones and laptops to use when you want to surf the web, but sometimes you want a larger viewing space and if you do, then Acer’s DX241H Web Station might be for you. It comes in both wired and wireless models.

It’s basically a 24-inch monitor. One that has a built-in browser, and will connect to the internet without being connected to a PC. But it does more than just surf the web. You can also watch movies on that 1080p display using Acer’s clear.fi software to stream video from other devices on the network. Sounds pretty sweet. Alot of screen real estate in a small space is always good.

Sony adds cloud storage for game saves to PSN Plus subscriptions

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription just became more worthwhile with the new addition of online storage for game saves. It’s coming with v3.60 of the PS3 firmware, which we should receive tomorrow, March 10th.

You will get to save up to 150MB of PlayStation 3 game progress data in Sony’s make.believe cloud. That isn’t a ton of space, but these files are usually small anyway. Really the most interesting aspect here is being able to just put your account details into any PS3 anywhere and play your games.

Kinect User Manual reveals mandatory 6 to 8 feet distance

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on October 6th, 2010

Better move that coffee table out of the way. If you have a super small living room, you better re-arrange it. If you plan on using the Kinect that is. Some pages from the upcoming Kinect’s user manual have surfaced, and it confirms what some folks have been worrying about. That you will need some spare space.

The manual suggests that players stand about six feet away from the sensor to be visible. If there are two people playing, they should stand eight feet away. It won’t be an issue for many of us, but if you have a small room it could be a problem.

As usual, the folks over at iFixit have wasted no time doing their latest autopsy, this time on the Playstation Move. The teardown yielded two surprises. The motion controller is very easy to dismantled compared with most devices.

They also discovered that the Move includes many components that are typically included in smartphones. It has an accelerometer and a gyroscope, but also a full processor, a vibrating motor, Bluetooth and a compass.

500GB PlayStation 3 coming, with new Wi-Fi, Move

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 14th, 2010

An “industry source” speaking with games site CVG, says that Sony will release two new PS3 bundles this year, both including the PlayStation Move motion controller, and one of them featuring a huge 500 GB hard drive. One of the bundles will include a 250GB PlayStation 3 and the Move motion controller.

The other bundle will include a 500GB PlayStation 3 and the Move. That may be overkill. Then again, maybe Sony knows something we don’t. Maybe they have plans that take up a lot of space.

PS3 Twistdock looks stylish

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 2nd, 2010

Console docking stations are usually ugly and cheap, but this one actually looks decent. Even stylish. It even swivels. This dock will hold either the original PS3 or the PS3 Slim. It holds the console and charges two controllers at once while giving you four extra USB ports.

Sure, it takes up more space then just laying your console down, but if you love your console, why not display it as if in a museum? Maybe shine some light down on it while you’re at it. It will cost you about $100 in the UK right now.
