Sony announces Lilac PSP, Hannah Montana and Assassin's Creed packsAt GamesCom 2009, Sony announced plans to bring three new PSP-3000 colors to Europe. The new colors are “Turquoise” blue, “Lilac” purple, and “Blossom” pink. We already know about the lilac PSP. White PSP Assasin's Creed Bloodlines bundle, $199Check this out. Apparently UMD isn’t dead just yet. Cold and possibly maggot ridden, but not quite dead. Sony just let loose some details on the Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines PSP Entertainment Pack. You’ll get the ghostly white PSP-3000 and 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, plus an unnamed feature film on UMD. For $199.

Weird huh? Even with the PSPgo, Sony is still trying to unload movies on UMD. The proprietary format that no one wants or supports. Will they ever learn? What are they thinking?

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on July 6th, 2009

Best Buy to offer 80GB PS3 bundle with MGS4 and Killzone 2?Great news. It’s not exactly a price cut, but it looks like Sony may be about to offer one of its best deals to date to PS3 customers, with some help from Best Buy. Apparently, this is an effort to clear out the 80GB PS3s once and for all (to make way for… the PS3 slim?), Best Buy will selling a bundle that includes the console, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Killzone 2.

All for the usual price of $399.99. Not a price cut, but you get a lot more for your money. This bundle is supposedly set to go on sale as soon as next Sunday. Some of them have apparently already made their way into the stores’ back rooms.

Details on PS3′s Motion Controller

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 22nd, 2009

Details on PS3's Motion ControllerAccording to Kotaku, Sony is touching base with developers and apparently the controller will launch in Spring 2010 (Next year’s E3 sounds right.) . Sony says that the controller will function “with any games across all genres from casual to [hard]core”.

To refresh your memory, the controller will work with Sony’s Eye camera and microphone, which will add face and voice recognition and make the motion tracking more accurate. Sony apparently told developers that the DualShock “could” be used along with the motion controller, much like how Nintendo uses the Wiimote and Nunchuck.

Sony PSPs in carnival colors for Japan

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on January 26th, 2009

Sony PSP Carnival ColorsI have a couple PSPs lying around my house and both of them are boring, shiny black devices. Sure, you can get silver PSP here in the states, but that’s not really any better than black. What I really want is a PSP with a bright color like Nintendo offers with its DS portable.

Sony is offering portable gamers in Japan the option of four new and very bright colors for their gaming enjoyment. The bright shades are called Carnival colors and the machines can be had in blue, red, green, and yellow.

September games sales show 7 percent drop

Posted in Games,News by Darrin Olson on October 17th, 2008

September game console sales show 7 percent decline, Nintendo still on top, Xbox has increased salesSeptember games sales actually showed the first decline since March of 2006 according to the NPD Group, however things are still not looking too tough for the gaming industry. September of 2007 saw a huge hike in sales due to the release of Halo 3 which is contrasted by slightly lower sales this last September of 2008.

The drop is sales was not the only change of events for September, either. Due to the price cut of the Xbox 360 models, Microsoft saw a significantly noticeable boost in sales for its console from 195k units sold in August, to 347k units sold in September of this year, bringing it ahead of Sony’s PS3. Microsoft dropped the price to $50 less than the Wii and half of what the PS3 costs, making it the least expensive current-generation game console on the market.

Sony Ericsson’s eco-friendly mobile phone concept

Sony Ericsson’s eco-friendly mobile phone conceptHere’s Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart concept. The handset was made using bio-plastic casing and keypads that can be easily recycled. The GreenHeart even comes bundled with a new charger that is smart enough to turn itself off when the phone is fully recharged. Environmental concerns even extend to the user’s manual which is entirely HTML-based to save paper, thereby saving trees. Add in environmentally conscious packaging, and some hippies might let go of the tree they’re hugging in order to get one. The Sony Ericsson GreenHeart is only a concept, but it shows a new greener direction.
