The Hexound headset’s design is definitely drool-worthy. It’s just a concept for now, but we sure hope they become real. The headset can be detached and then they are turned into portable speakers. There’s also a solar panel in the headband.

Other specs include Bluetooth and intuitive controls. With these, you can listen to your music alone or share it whenever the mood strikes you, just by detaching. Hopefully these become real one day soon. I know I would buy them.

Solar-powered rainbow machine

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2010

Rainbows are a beautiful and amazing creation of nature. But sadly, they are rare and don’t last very long. If only we had a machine that could make rainbows whenever we wanted them. Well we do and we can.

Michael Jones McKean’s artificial rainbow machine uses reclaimed rainwater and sunlight to create rainbows. It “uses a series of high-powered jet pumps and custom fountain nozzles to spray water into the air, creating the conditions needed for a rainbow to appear.” Maybe now he can work on some double rainbow technology. The machine is set to be installed at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska next June.

Solar powered concept media player has Sony brand

Posted in Concepts by Shane McGlaun on October 1st, 2010

I like a nice concept product because it lets us have a glimpse at what the gadgets of the future might look like. I have no doubt that at some future date solar power will be the main means of powering all manner of electronic devices. Today isn’t that day though with solar panels that are generally unable to power much of anything quickly or for a long time without room for a very large solar panel.

A new concept media player has surfaced that has the Sony brand. It’s not an official Sony concept apparently and it is called the Eclipse. The Eclipse has a solar panel on the back that gathers all the power the thing needs to operate. It has integrated speakers and a touchscreen for viewing video content.

HydroFill device makes hydrogen for MiniPak fuel cell charger

Posted in fuel cell by Shane McGlaun on July 22nd, 2010

Hydrogen fuel cells are one of the things that promise to power our gadgets without needing to plug them in or use electricity. However, getting the hydrogen for the fuel cells to run on does require power of some sort.

A new device called the HydroFill is available that can be ran from an AC outlet or a solar panel. The device uses plain distilled water to generate hydrogen that it stores inside HydroStik containers. Those HydroStik containers can then be used in the MiniPak hand held fuel cell charger.

Eton Scorpion keeps your gadgets going on solar power and elbow grease

Posted in Green Gadget by Shane McGlaun on May 13th, 2010

I am more of an indoors type. I’m not really into camping and while I do go outside with the kids a lot, we don’t stray too far from an outlet. However, a while back when a hurricane came through the power was out for hours and I would have paid dearly for a gadget like the Eton Scorpion.

The device is a power generator for USB charging gadgets that has both a solar panel and a hand crank to generate charging power. The gadget also has a number of other features inside.

Concept car turns carbon dioxide into oxygen

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2010

The “YeZ” takes solar-powered car design one step further, by acting like a tree. Just like a tree, it sucks in carbon dioxide and releases it as oxygen. Plus there’s the whole tree design to really drive it home. The canopy over the driver and passenger looks like a big leaf.

The energy created by this process, small wind turbines fixed to the wheels and solar panels on the vehicle’s canopy are what will keep it rolling. Right now it’s just a concept, but who knows, you may be riding in one soon.
