SOE attack “make good” plan gets you a free DC Universe Online Batman mask

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on May 4th, 2011

Sony Online Entertainment is offering the DC Universe Online community a free Batman inspired mask as part of its “make good” plan after an attack on the system that has led to two weeks without service to the PlayStation Network. All players who were affected will receive both the Batman mask and a 30 day subscription credit plus one day for each day the service is unavailable. Not a bad way to say they are sorry.

In addition, SOE is asking for patience as it returns service. “Please bear with us as the complexities of the subscription server dictate how and when this will be available along with pertinent details,” But hey, free batman stuff.

Whether robbing a convenience store or just strolling down the street on a winter’s day, you might as well do it in style. Plain black ski masks have been done and putting a pair of nylons on your head is just weird. Be the Staypuft Marshmallow Man instead.

This Stay Puft Marshmallow Man ski mask is just $20. It will make you feel warm and cozy. In some cases it may also make sure that no one can identify you. Who is going to believe that the Staypuft Marshmallow man held up a bank? Not that we condone that behavior.

Do you have 100 Blu-Ray discs in your collection? If so, then check this out. Kaleidescape has announced the launch of the first Blu-ray movie server. The Kaleidescape System stores copies of your Blu-ray Discs on its hard drives and can rip, store, and stream copies of Blu-ray movies throughout your home. However, there are some restrictions. Each disc vault has to be connected to an individual player, and the discs have to remain in the vault for the player to stream their ripped copies over the network.

You’ll get high resolution cover art combined with a brief synopsis of each film and other details, to easily explore your collection of movies. Video bookmarks and triggers allow the system to start a movie instantly and automatically adjust lighting, curtains and screen masking. With over 145,000 titles, Kaleidescape’s Movie Guide is the largest database of its kind to date.

Mejikara Anti-Wrinkle Glasses make you look like a low budget superhero

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on August 30th, 2010

Here in the US most people get rid of wrinkles by using moisturizing face cream, or Botox. The latter just makes you look like you are surprised all of the time and it must be really hard to move your face. Folks in Japan have a better way.

The Mejikara Anti-Wrinkle Glasses are designed to stop wrinkles before they happen, while at the same time making you look like you have a cheap superhero mask on. Just wear these silly yellow goggles for 5 minutes each day and supposedly will end up looking less old and tired. Because “On the inside of the Mejikara there are specially-designed ridges which massage and help your skin.”

CameraBag: Instant iPhone photo processing

CameraBag: Instant iPhone photo processingNevercenter, (the company that is always on the left or right apparently) has a solution for all of you whose iPhone/iPod Touch photography skills are a bit crap. Just mask the picture with some filters and you’ll look like you know what you’re doing. Some may even think that you are an actual photographer.

Just pull up the picture in the CameraBag App, put in the effects and save. You’re done. There are seven filters that do different things. For instance, “Cinema” creates film-like widescreen stills, while “Mono” smoothly grades the photo from black to white. You can manipulate things further using the options menu.

Digimech clock has gear driven display

Digimech clock has gear driven display
We all love interesting clocks. And by interesting, I mean bizarre. UK designer Duncan Shotton’s Digimech clock looks like a simple LED clock at first glance, but it’s actually a complicated mechanical machine that creates digital illusions. The vertical slides slowly move into position inside of a black masking box and the time is revealed.

Time marches on while the sliders climb to the top, until the 9th digit hits. Then it drops the slider all the way back to the original position. The slider are moved by 3 servos. It’s a very original and large clock that blends digital and mechanical in an interesting way. Check out the video below.

Target bans “Manhunt 2″

Target bans Manhunt 2“Manhunt 2″ has become the target of a ban by Target stores. Executives for the retail company have made the decision to ban sales of Rockstar’s controversial game which lets players control a homicidal escaped mental patient as he goes on a killing rampage.

In a statement released on Tuesday Target offered the following explanation for the decision: “All video games and computer software sold at Target currently carry ratings by the Entertainment Software Rating Board — from early childhood through mature audiences. While ‘Manhunt 2′ was given a ‘Mature’ rating by the ESRB, we received additional information that players can potentially view previously filtered content by altering the game code. As a result, we have decided not to carry the game.”
