Microsoft’s Pink phones

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on September 23rd, 2009

Microsoft's Pink phoneGizmodo has the skinny on the Pink.Project Pink is Microsoft’s new phone for regular joes. We heard rumors about the software months ago, but the hardware, as well as who’s making it has been a mystery. Anyhow, check out the first pictures of these Pink phones, the Turtle and Pure.

The phones will be made by Sharp and Pink will be aimed at the same market that uses the Sidekick. The Turtle kind of looks like a toy Palm Pre, while the Pure seems like your typical standard slider. Both are very…round-ish, with soft angles. Obviously plastic.

Samsung Comeback details and specsWe have some more specs for the Samsung Comeback, like this quality image with official specifications. As you can see, the Comeback looks a lot like a Sidekick. The features are pretty vanilla, but this might be an affordable texting/email phone. It sports a 2MP camera, microSDHC slot (up to 16 GB), Bluetooth and WQVGA resolution on the main display.

Can your fingers handle the navigation on the right and a QWERTY keyboard? Rumor was that it may launch today, but we haven’t heard anything yet.

Calgary to be Motorola’s first Android phoneMotorola’s Calgary really looks awesome and makes you take notice. And it’s on Verizon. According to BGR, the QWERTY slider will be focused on social networking much like the new Sidekick. The only thing we’re unsure about is that flat keyboard. Will it be finger friendly or not?

It looks absolutely sexy. Moto could really have a hit on their hands, with this well-designed Android phone. No word yet as to whether this is slated for Q2 or not.

Guy builds working Batman Forever Batmobile in his garageIf you’re a Batman fan, you can always go the usual route and collect figures, comics and little die-cast cars. Or you could get off your butt and build an actual working Batmobile. That’s what sculptor Bob Causey did. He built this working Batman Forever replica in his garage.

It’s actually drivable, with or without a costume and sidekick. It’s got a ton of great detail. Including a full-interior, retractable hard top, and three LCD displays. It takes a true Batman fan to build something like this.

sidekicklxSmartphones are booming today despite the fact that the economy is worse than sitting through an episode of Dancing with the Stars (ok so maybe the economy isn’t that bad). Despite the fact that computer and electronics sales are down, sales of smartphones are still growing nicely. Some analysts say that’s because consumers are looking to devices that can fill multiple needs, which the average smartphone can.

T-Mobile users will soon have a new smartphone that they can choose called the Sidekick LX. The LX is T-Mobile’s first 3G enabled Sidekick and integrates social networking applications Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter in a bundle. Other features include built-in GPS, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and a integrated music player.

New Swiveling Nokia hitting Verizon Wireless? This thing looks absolutely bonkers, but a tipster to Boy Genius Report claims that Nokia is working on a “swiveling E71-type handset” for Verizon. It features a full QWERTY keyboard and runs Series 40. It’s very much like the Sidekick.

It would be launched around the July/August time-frame. A swiveling QWERTY Nokia phone sounds crazy, but the folks ovet at Engadget have been contacted by a bunch of individuals who claim to have seen the phone in person.

FCC confirms 3G SidekickBeen a long time coming, but Sidekick will be playing with the cool kids in the 3G club soon. The new device is waiting for FCC approval. Apparently the next Sidekick will be compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G network. The actual device is coming from Sharp.

Danger was bought by Microsoft in February 2008 and since then not much has happened. What this next device will look like is anybody’s guess, and how will the software compare to the competition? Neither Sharp nor T-Mobile have announced this device.

Scientists extract images directly from the brain

Scientists extract images directly from the brainIn what could be the first step toward recording your dreams, researchers from Japan’s ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories have developed new brain analysis technology that can reconstruct the images inside a person’s mind and display them on a computer monitor. That means it won’t be long before you can share your thoughts and dreams with others the way you share your flickr pics. They’ve successfully displayed simple images produced in the human brain on a computer screen.

The device converts electrical signals sent to the visual cortex into images that can be viewed on a computer screen. In the experiment, they showed test subjects the six letters in the word neuron and successfully reconstructed the word on screen by measuring brain activity. So, is this awesome or scary as hell? I vote scary.

The PSP and Sidekick mate, make good looking kid
Samuel Lau took both devices, put on some Barry White, uncorked the champagne, then tucked them in bed together and closed the door. The result is a somewhat sexy sliding screen incarnation with a QWERTY keyboard underneath.

Unfortunately this baby is just a concept. Still pretty sweet. It’s a concept that comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera in back, a webcam in front, motion sensors, touch screen display, even geo-tracking so you can stalk other PSP owners. I wish this existed.
