New Verizon LG Revolution Pics

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

The LG Revolution from Verizon Wireless will be launching on May 26 and now we have the first real images that have surfaced online. It will feature Bing as the default search engine and run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. You can see the lock screen and that smooth new black cover in the above image.

We aren’t sure if we prefer the black cover to the silver back that was on display at CES, but either way it looks sexy. And if you are interested in the packaging, it will look nearly identical to that of the HTC Thunderbolt.

New Xbox hardware rumored in 2015

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on March 21st, 2011

This generation of consoles is pretty long-lived. It’s taking awhile before a new model is released. But the time is drawing near. Now, an online portfolio of a team member of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business Design Group has said that a new Xbox is scheduled for a 2015 release.

They have already started work on it this month. If this is true, then it means that the Xbox 360 will be a decade old when the new model arrives. We know that Microsoft was recently searching for engineers who are willing to work on its next-generation console.

Yahoo accepts Google and Facebook logins

Posted in Yahoo by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2011

Last year Yahoo started using Bing to power its search engine and this year they have announced that they will be accepting Google and Facebook account logins via the OpenID authentication protocol. Yahoo! says that this will make it easier for users to access their services without the need to sign up.

The new OpenID authentication system starts tomorrow. I wonder if we will see much more of Yahoo, since this doesn’t look good for them. They wish that others would be accepting their logins instead.

RIM faces PlayBook battery issues

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on December 29th, 2010

Looks like there is a problem with the battery life of Research In Motion’s tablet PC, the PlayBook. After making a splash with it’s introduction, the device has somewhat yielded to the competition. One issue is that the device has trouble keeping up with the 10-hour battery life of the iPad or even with the 6-hour battery life of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.

Word is that some re-engineering can be expected to get the device in a state where it is ready for release. I hope they work the issues out. It would be a shame if this one was gimped by battery life of all things.

Verizon LG Vortex spotted with Android 2.2 and Microsoft Bing

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on September 23rd, 2010

While HTC’s Android-powered smartphones come with a bunch of apps from Google, Verizon Wireless’ LG Vortex is taking a different approach. It will go with Microsoft instead. Similar to the Samsung Fascinate, the LG Vortex will ship with Microsoft Bing as the search engine, along with Bing Maps to help you navigate.

Android 2.2 runs on a 600MHz processor, accompanied by an integrated FM radio. Does this chance your mind about wanting the Vortex, or are you cool with Bing?

Bing passes Yahoo, now behind Google

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on September 14th, 2010

Microsoft’s Bing search engine has just overtaken Yahoo and is now in the second place spot for search engine’s in the US. That means it is now going to go up against Google, the top dog. At least according to The Nielsen Company.

In August alone, Bing grew from 13.6 percent to 13.9 percent of the US search market. Yahoo declined from 14.3 percent to 13.1 percent. While Google’s share went up from 64.2 percent in July to 65.0 percent. Google shouldn’t worry though. With Bing and Yahoo combined, their search share of 27.0 percent is still less than Google’s.

Google Search coming to the Samsung Fascinate with Android 2.2 update

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on September 12th, 2010

If you purchased the Samsung Fascinate from Verizon, then surely you have noticed that the phone comes standard with Bing instead of Google, and getting the Google Search application installed is a pain. This is because Verizon and Microsoft have entered a multi-device deal to promote Bing.

This might not be a deal breaker to most, but to some of us it’s pretty annoying. To anyone who prefers Google’s search engine to Bing, it is annoying. At least we have some good news. According to a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, when the Fascinate is updated to Android 2.2, users will be able to download the Google Search application to get easy access to Google’s search, but the downside is that users will still be unable to change the default search setting from Bing to Google.

Ford has teams of researchers and engineers that have the sole purpose of developing new safety systems for Ford vehicles. One of the new systems that researchers at Ford are working on is the Automatic Braking Intersection Collision Avoidance System.

The system uses a series of wireless radio sensors around the vehicle. When the sensors detect another vehicle and determine that a side impact is imminent, the brakes for both vehicles are automatically applied.

Bing to replace Google as default search engine on iPhone?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on May 29th, 2010

Look out Google. Word on the street is that Microsoft Bing will be replacing Google as the default search engine on the iPhone. There’s no confirmation on this, but it does fit what we’ve been hearing about talks between Apple and Microsoft.

Then again some sources are saying that Apple and Microsoft are just talking about adding Bing as a search engine option on the iPhone instead of replacing Google. I’ll guess we will learn one way or the other soon enough.

Google Reader dropping support for older browsers

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on May 25th, 2010

Google is no stranger to cleaning house when it needs to. There are too many older web browsers out there and so the search engine giant has announced that its popular Google Reader will be ditching support for older browsers like IE6, Firefox 1.0, 2.0, Safari 2.0, 3.0, and even Chrome versions 1, 2, and 3.

Google says that the move will allow it to spend its time improving Google Reader instead of fixing issues with these old browsers. If you’re still using an old browser version, why? And hey, you better upgrade.

Want an iPad this weekend? Try Milo

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on April 2nd, 2010

I can’t say that I have ever used online sources to find a product in a local store. Typically, I do research online and then wander around aimlessly to all the stores I think might have whatever it is until I find it.

If you want an iPad this weekend, the product search engine Milo is ready to help you out. Milo has issued a statement telling us all that you can hop over to its site, enter iPad as the search term, and then your zip code.
