R/C cars steered by Android smartphones

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2011

R/C cars are fun. Almost every kid has played with one at some point. Now the BlueDrone project wants to use your Android smartphone as a controller and get rid of those clunky remotes. The concept pairs the car with the Bluetooth-enabled handset and allows you to maneuver it with your phone using the onscreen controls.

It delivers a drive time of 3 hours with a range of about 30 feet. The custom app will let the driver use the accelerometer to steer as an alternative to the onscreen wheel as well. They just need $200,000 to commercialize the project. We hope they get it.

Each one has a small full-range driver built into the bottom, and they also have colorful LEDs around the neck that light up when the music is playing. Pushing the droid’s head starts and stops the music, and turning it left or right adjusts the volume.
