Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on August 29th, 2010

This was designed by Pete Hand. The four letter word generator displays random words, changing the word every few seconds. It has 5,400 words in its dictionary you bad words should be kept to a minimum. Sadly.

Luxury green HTPC has retro good looks

Posted in Home Theater by Conner Flynn on January 13th, 2010

A luxury green HTPC. That’s what we have here. A sexy one at that, what with its sexy styling and all. It comes from Seoul-based designer, Design Hara. It’s green because it has a recyclable chassis, handcrafted cypress wood or rose wood side panels and a front cover made from natural sheep leather.

All of the internal parts are connected using bolts and nuts, which helps make the recyclable e-waste separation process much easier. This HTPC requires only 33% of the energy that its desktop equivalent uses. Some other specs include a Mini-ITX motherboard with HDMI and DVI outputs, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive.

Retro TV digital photo frameWe’ve seen all kinds of digital photo frames, but this one comes in a retro form, looking like a retro TV. Which is a much cooler form than what we typically see. This one comes from Japan’s mag labs.

Space Invaders and Pac-Man art carsPimping your ride with new shocks, struts, and a more powerful engine is all well and good, but if it can’t get by on looks alone what’s the point? These art cars are real lookers. These mini Coopers put the geek on the street my brotha.

Retro NES classic controllers for the WiiLooks like the Super Famicon controller for the Wii was just the first such retro controller. Codejunkies is offering this NES-type classic gamepad that has the SNES’s four buttons for $20.

What’s next? We predict a new version of the Nintendo Power Glove, maybe a Mini ROB the robot that can hold your Wiimote. Once they redo all the old Nintendo peripherals, how about an Atari joystick for the Wii?

Retro Media Center PC matches your classic car

Posted in PCs by Conner Flynn on January 18th, 2009

Retro Media Center PC matches your classic carIf PCs were being made in the 1950′s they would look a lot like this. Why not? It will match the ’57 Chevy parked in your driveway. Thomas Thomassen created this beautiful retro media center PC for his final project in BA (Hons) model making for design and media at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth.

Obviously he knows what he’s doing. It reminds me of the old Bakelite radios from the 1940′s-50′s. He created most of the parts through the process of vacuum forming. Some inside specs include: VIA Epia 13000 miniITX, SilenX CPU fan, 1GB RAM, 100GB 2.5″ Harddrive and a Soundgraph iMON Remote Control.

Space Invaders retro tabletop game bank

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on January 15th, 2009

Space Invaders retro tabletop game bankThe Japanese love banks. Like us, they also love them some Space Invaders. This latest offering from Takara Tomy may look like an actual sized tabletop Space Invaders game, but it’s really a miniature replica bank. It’s a unique take on the whole bank concept. It features an LCD screen that unfortunately is not playable, but acts as coin counter.

It will take up to 80 100 yen coins, and each time you drop a coin in, another invader lights up. So, basically you are playing the game in reverse. In this case, it pays to have more invaders on screen. It makes saving money not only fun, but retro and geeky at the same time. It will help you save up for those Space Invaders headphones or that Space Invaders Keyboard you’ve been wanting.

Jeffrey Stephenson’s awesome retro casemod

Posted in Computers by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2008

Jeffrey Stephenson’s awesome retro casemodJeffrey Stephenson is no stranger to awesome casemods. He’s outdone himself this time however, with this one, dedicated to the Ingraham Cabinet Co., creator of radio cases in the WWII era. The Ingraham case mod is walnut-clad (though veneered) just like the originals he was inspired by, featuring a hand-built basswood frame layered on a mini-ITX SilverStone case.

Check out the polished chrome knob on the front from an Arlen Ness catalog, perched atop a final retro flourish: a Firewire 400 port. under the hood, things are less art deco and more modern: a VIA VB8001 motherboard, a 1.6GHz Nano processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, and a 64GB SSD.
