Credit Card sized digital video player

Here’s a PMP that looks pretty nice. It’s also small. About the size of a credit card. For the size, you get alot of features. You can also get this one in two different styles. There’s the Neon M3 with heat sensitive glowing buttons and a 2.4 inch LCD screen, or you can get the Ice with a brushed aluminum finish that sports a slightly larger 2.8 inch display.

Both have bright high-res screens and 8 hour battery life so you can play all of your favorite movies and music and they have a voice recording feature as well as FM radio. Each has 2GB of storage built-in and with a memory card you can expand that.

Sony’s NW-E013 Walkman for the ladies

Sony’s NW-E013 Walkman

Sony’s new NW-E013 Walkman is obviously geared toward the ladies and they are sure to be a hit. The design is certainly pretty enough and I imagine that women will find them quite appealing as far as mp3 players go. In fact, the more you look at them, they kind of look like high tech lipstick cases. They have 1-gigabyte of memory and come in sky blue, hot pink, and other girlly colors.

Sony even went so far as to create a set of little carrying cases with straps for these devices. It costs 10,980 yen or $101.52 starting December 19th. Considering what some women pay for shoes alone, I’d say that’s a bargain. It should also be noted that this would be a great Christmas gift that she should absolutely love.

R2-D2 laundry basket robs droids of dignity

R2-D2 laundry basket

There’s been a slew of R2-D2 items to come onto the market recently. Some of which must leave the little droid sobbing electronically in a corner somewhere. I must admit, I had never before thought about putting my socks and shirts, not to mention my un-mentionables into an R2 unit. It just doesn’t seem proper to degrade a droid that way. That’s why I’m convinced that this laundry basket must have been made by Jawas.

These are Japan imports. You get a set of two. One classic blue R2-D2 and one red R2-D1. This way, you can sort all of your nastiness into light side and dark side piles, then throw them in, disgracing our favorite droid.

Space Explorer lighting for the final frontier

Space Explorer overhead lighting

It’s getting easier to decorate that Sci-Fi or space themed decor these days. This Space Explorer lamp is for anyone who has ever dreamed of being an astronaut, young or old. I want one yesterday.

It’s got alot of detail with thruster lights and the required floating astronauts, along with what appears to be a space station. This is the perfect companion piece to that Starship Enterprise that you have hanging on your ceiling already. It will cost you $185. Money is no object when making your room a Sci-Fi Space scene. It’s basically one small step for astronauts and one giant leap for cool overhead lighting.

Sega Genesis portable leaves much to be desired

Tec Toy Portable Sega Genesis

Many gamers still believe that the Sega Genesis was the best video game console ever, thanks to classics like Sonic. Apparently, Tec Toy has some Genesis love of it’s own, so they shrank it and made it fairly pocket-sized. Great concept. I would own it. The retail price will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $100, but is only going to be available to Brazilians. They should be hitting the UK as imports in early 2008, though.

The device comes pre-loaded with 20 classic games like Ecco, Sonic & Knuckles, Alex Kidd and Golden Axe. The problem is that you can’t download any extra games. You are just stuck with those 20 games. To make matters even stranger, it is powered by 3 AAA batteries, which you would be replacing like crazy.

Visual desktop charger concept radiates light

Visual desktop charger concept

Most desktop chargers suffer from a case of severe ugliness. That’s where this one differs, with a brilliant endearing design by Sun Kyung Kim. It simulates the visual experience of ripples within a bird bath. Sun’s thinking is that humans like to have visual indicators for all things, mobile devices are no exception. Most chargers do not give you any visual indication of charge status, whereas this one will show you radiating rings of light that the indicate the charge status. To top it off, the thirsty birds on the edge glow once the rings of light reach them.

No word yet on when it might be available or pricing, assuming that it ever gets manufactured.

Dock your iPod in Vestalife’s ladybug

Vestalife’s ladybug iPod dock

This is one of the neater iPod docks that I have seen. The Vestalife ladybug iPod dock is not just another boring place to park your iPod. It has a digital amplifier, built-in-subwoofer for extra bass, and a cool remote that resembles an iPod. It comes in a nice shiny red or gray finish and yes it resembles a ladybug. Especially when open. When closed it just plain looks cool. This is an iPod dock that’s all about style.

Of course, it also charges the iPod and can run on AC or battery. Another plus is the USB port that has been integrated to sync your iPod when it sits in the speaker.

Time Machine Clock

Before you get overly excited, this kinetic clock in all it’s beautifully designed goodness, will not send you back and forth in time. It will look great in your home and at the same time spice up the now boring art of telling time. Plus, you get the added benefit of hearing your friends tell you how cool it looks. If you are looking for that piece of unusual art to jazz up a room, this may be it.

It uses it’s many ball bearings to tell time by filling each of its marked scoops, minutes, then fives, and finally the hour. The ball bearing overflow drops to the next level. Simply count them and you have the time. Seconds are displayed on the dial on top.

Papercut: plug & call emergency landline phone

Priestman Goode’s disposable phone, Post A Phone

This new concept from Industrial design company Priestman Goode is essentially a cardboard disposable phone, called the Post A Phone. What you get is a 4mm (0.16 inch) thick cardboard landline handset that pops out from a backing board. That’s it. It’s ready to plug and make calls.

The whole thing can fit in an envelope. Say a cell phone customer loses their phone. This can be mailed right out to them. Environmentally speaking, it’s cardboard so it won’t hurt the environment.

USB powered infrared pad for pain reliefWe’re often surprised here at the ‘Brick by the different types of things that companies come up with which are powered by a USB connection. Most do seem to make a lot of sense though; people are spending more and more time at their computers and most of these devices don’t require a lot of juice to power them. This far infrared heating pad is a good example, offering the benefits of infrared heat through the convenience of a USB connection.

Rumors of the iPhone in Canada by December 7

Posted in Rumors, iPhone by Darrin Olson on October 28th, 2007

Rumors of the Apple iPhone coming to Canada through Rogers on December 7thRumor has it, spurred by this ad copy for Rogers Wireless, that folks in Canada may have the opportunity to get their legitimate hands on an iPhone from Apple before the end of the year. According to this advertisement floating around, the iPhone would be available exclusively through Rogers Wireless for $499.99 CAD (about $519 USD) with a 3-year contract. Rogers and Apple would start taking pre-orders on the iPhone in Canada on November 20th.

Of course this is still falling under our Rumor category but the ad looks like it could be for real. The fact that the text is actually legible makes us feel like the it’s not an intentional leak by Rogers or Apple, but you might not want to plan on getting in line for anything quite yet. We’ll keep watching.

Ultimate geek LED Christmas tree

Posted in LED, Office Gadgets by Reuben Drake on October 24th, 2007

Desktop LED Christmas tree is powered by a 9-volt battery and made out of circuit boardsWe geeks like Christmas just as much if not more than most people since its the time of year when our favorite gadgets, components and games all drop in price and we place specific orders with relatives hoping someone will give them to us. We also don’t mind getting into the holiday spirit but who wants a fluffy, cheesy-looking ornament or tree on their desk?

Luckily someone is thinking ahead for us and has come up with this Dekstop LED Christmas Tree to allow you to show off some holiday spirit without bringing your geek-ability into question. The LED Christmas tree has LED blinking, colored lights on it which are powered by a 9-volt battery. The battery also doubles as the stand and the branches to which the lights are attached are made to resemble circuit boards. The little 4-inch tall tree retails for just $9.95 and even comes with a battery.

iSharpener USB powered pencil sharpener is flashy

Posted in Office Gadgets, USB by Reuben Drake on October 19th, 2007

iSharpener USB pencil sharpener sharpens your pencil and displays flashy LED lightsAs far as USB gadgets go the iSharpener USB pencil sharpener could be considered one of the more practical ones. It actually has a practical use although I can’t remember the last time that I actually wrote anything with a pencil. The device of course is powered by your computers USB connection but if you’re all your ports happen to be occupied at the time your lead breaks it can be backed up by 4 AA batteries.

The iSharpener seems simple enough and personally I think it should have been called the iSharpen, but they did add a nice little “spin” to the device. Instead of just a boring old grinding noise while watching wooden shavings fall into the plastic bin, the makers added 3 colorful LED lights inside the light up when you’re sharpening! How’s that for adding excitement to your day?
