Pillow stops snoring and gives you a massage

Posted in Health by Conner Flynn on October 4th, 2007

Pillow that stops snoring and also gives you a massage while you sleepThe Germans are always innovating. And while the typical person doesn’t normally think about cutting edge pillow technology, Daryoush Bazargani does. He’s the German scientist responsible for the latest computerized pillow that can stop you from snoring. The pillow acts like your mate and gives you a nudge by inflating and deflating different chambers. The result is that it adjusts your head and by doing so, clears your airways. It knows when you snore thanks to the encyclopedia sized computer that rests on your bedside table.

This pillow comes with an added bonus. The ability to give you a neck massage. That’s always welcome, by itself. But I have to say, the computer itself, along with the hose, looks a bit too much like life support to me.

Squeeze beam technology

Brando Hand pressing gun flashlight has laser aim and is powered by squeezing the trigger with no batteriesAim, squeeze the trigger and see what you’re looking at. That’s the concept behind Brando’s Hand Pressing Gun Flashlight, an illuminator that comes with a red laser sighter. Aim that red dot at where you want to illuminate your beam of light and then when you squeeze the flashlight’s trigger two white LEDs wink on. The flashlight doesn’t require batteries since it uses the kinetic energy from your hand squeezing the trigger to power up the LEDs.

Rock Band Pricing and Release Unveiled

Posted in Games, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 by Darrin Olson on September 29th, 2007

Rock Band game pricing and release date for PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360Information on the release of the new “Rock Band” game from MTV has made its way into the blogosphere today flaunting a lower-than-expected price. The game is to be released for both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 on November 23, both priced at $169.99. As an early surprise, Rock Star will also be available for the PS2 the following month on December 10, going for $10 less at $159.99.

The games will come bundled with a single guitar, microphone and a drum kit. Also, that guitar that comes bundled for the PS2 and PS3 won’t be tethered with any wires letting you rock out more freely but unfortunately the Xbox 360 will require you to plug it in, at least for a while. A wireless guitar model for the 360 is expected to come up sometime next year.

Apple releases iPhone 1.1.1 firmware update with threats of bricking unlocked iPhonesApple released the expected version 1.1.1 update to the iPhone firmware today with fixes for some critical bugs and the additions to support the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. But what makes this release such big news are the less-known things in the update that threaten to brick unauthorized, unlocked iPhones.

Prior to the update Apple put out a warning to those with unlocked iPhones which basically stated that the next firmware update may render these unlocked phones useless, and the result is not covered by the warranty. With the new firmware update iPhone owners were presented on screen with the same message before installing the update:

Posted in Sidekick, Sidekick LX, Sidekick Slide, T-Mobile by Reuben Drake on September 26th, 2007

T-Mobile announce the Sidekick LX and Sidekick Slide releaseAfter quite a long time of speculation and rumored pictures, T-Mobile and Danger have unveiled both the Sidekick LX and the Sidekick Slide. The two new mobile communication gadgets are both pretty cool but might each be targeted to a slightly different set of people.

The Sidekick LX looks to be the new, latest and greatest Sidekick with a wider QVGA display, mood lighting with LED lights that blink with alerts and a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash. It also comes with a 128MB microSD card. The Sidekick Slide comes in a little smaller package measuring 4.6 x 2.4 x 0.68 inches and is from Motorola. It doesn’t have the swivel display like the traditional Sidekicks but also doesn’t skimp on features as its set up the same as the LX.

Colibri lighter ignites by breaking the beam

Colibri Beam Sensor Lighter ignites by breaking the photoelectric beamThis lighter isn’t really new technology but I ran across it today and thought it was pretty cool, and I don’t even have any real need for a lighter. If I did need a lighter however, I think this might be the ticket.

No longer do you have to flick your lighter manually and run the risk of wearing out or worse yet, damaging those precious gaming thumbs. This lighter from Colibri has a photoelectric sensor beam incorporated into the lighter that signals the flames ignition. When you flip open the lid a visible red beam appears, then by simply breaking the light beam with your finger the lighter automatically ignites. The lighter flame runs on butane that can be replaced and the ignition is battery powered.

iHome ultimate Bluetooth speakers/clock radio

iHome IHC5S clock radio and speakers dock for Bluetooth cell phonesThe iHome iHC5S is one of those incredible multi-gadgets that pack maybe one-too-many features into a single system. Fortunately in this case the features all seem to pretty much go together, unlike the stranger combination found Mini-Fridge we saw earlier this month.

iHome has put together a clock radio that connects wirelessly via the Handsfree, Headset, AVRCP and A2DP Bluetooth profiles to give a system that integrates with Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. The Clock Radio Speaker System, as iHome descriptively calls it, has the ability to receive streaming music from your phone and play it through the 4 built-in stereo speakers. It also lets you control the playback through the system or an included remote control. The alarm clock also allows you to wake up to a buzzer, radio or the streamed music from your phone.

Zip Zip Memory Brick 1GB USB drive

Posted in Flash Memory, Toys, USB by Darrin Olson on September 22nd, 2007

Zip Zip Memory Brick is a 1GB Flash memory USB Drive inside a plastic lego-type brickZip Zip Memory Bricks are small USB 2.0 Flash memory drives encased inside a Lego-type toy building brick. When the cap is on they appear like a normal toy brick, but pulling one half of the brick apart exposes the USB 2.0 connector. They come in colors of green, yellow, blue, red, black or white, much like Lego bricks do, and have a capacity of 1GB.

The Memory Bricks also have a lanyard attached to make them harder to lose and easier to identify should you happen to drop it into a pile of regular toy bricks. The company says you can stack memory bricks just like you would with regular toy bricks, but what would be cooler is if the memory would stack up as well!

Under the USB sea

Lili and Oscar USB hub and webcamThere are two classifications of cute gadgets: the “Awwwww!” group and the “It’s Hello Kitty so it must be destroyed” group. We feel that United Pepper’s Lili and Oscar fall into the first category and so they should be allowed a place into our homes and hearts (but we will keep the flamethrower close by in case something Hello Kitty should surface.) Awwwww!

Lili is the five-legged octopus lass and Oscar is the starfish-shaped guy. Explained in practical terms, the deep sea dame is a funky designed 1.3-megapixel webcam with microphone while …

Red hot light maker

SIM2 C3X 1080 Grand Cinema DLP projectorWhile digital light projectors drop in price and rise in their ability to deliver crisp images, the gulf between the high-end projectors and the average ones still remains a wide one. Consider SIM2’s SIM2 Grand Cinema C3X 1080 which is described by the firm as being the world’s smallest (by 40cm square) and lightest (10 kilos) full high-def three-chip DLP projector. It also may be the world’s best-looking DLP too, but can it answer a question better than Miss South Carolina?

The C3X 1080 gives you 1920 x 1080 progressive video, 10-bit video processing with full depth of picture, HD scaling, deinterlacing so your 24fps is of the utmost clarity when you’re paying attention to it. It does that by having inside of it three 0.95-inch, 1080p DLP chips designed by Texas Instruments, the best that the industry can make for projection displays. Additionally the unit’s software can calibrate itself to precisely deliver the best picture that your set-up can muster. If the C3X 1080 had a red circle light and spoke in a quiet voice we would call it HAL.

TeleSpy Intrusion Detector dials a phone number when it senses motionTalk about your sneaky spy gadgets… The TeleSpy Intrusion Detector looks like a standard home telephone when in reality its a motion detector, microphone and secret dialer all in one.

This unassuming phone has a built in infrared motion sensor that’s able to cover 45 degrees at the direction it’s aiming in a room, waiting for any movement. When motion is sensed the TeleSpy will call up a single, pre-programmed number and then turn on the microphone for whoever answers to listen to what’s going on. The TeleSpy phone stays connected for 30 seconds and then hangs up and re-arms itself waiting for the next movement.

Iron tough drive

Ironkey USB ThumbdriveIf you are looking for the ultimate in security for a new thumb drive take a gander at the IronKey, the military’s solution to keeping their secrets safe. The IronKey is made to be both tough physically as well as data attacks.

For starters it encrypts your password using 256-bit AES and then encrypts that info a second time using 128-bit encryption. It may sound like overkill but heck why not do it? If a hacker wants to try and guess your password they only get 10 tries before the IronKey destroys all of the data it contains. If the villain tries to pop the drive open and get at the chips inside he will have a next-to-impossible task pulling it out in one piece since the guts are coated with an epoxy and would gum up the removal process.
