Posted in Accessories,Baggage,Batteries by Shane McGlaun on September 23rd, 2010

Quirky has some cool products that we have talked about before. One of my favorites was the Switch knife that surfaced a while back. The latest offering from Quirky is the Trek Support backpack. The thing is designed to hold your gadgets and notebook and can help keep them charged up too.

The backpack has a removable battery inside that promises 7 hours of power depending on what you hook to it. The battery pack has four pockets and has enough outlets to charge three of those USB gadgets at the same time.

Football Cocktail Shaker

Posted in Sports by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2010

Most cocktail shakers are shiny metal. Classy. When James bond orders a Martini “shaken, not stirred” it’s gotta look classy. Well, this is the exact opposite. This Football Cocktail Shaker isn’t for Bond. It’s more suited to rednecks and guys with cheese on their head, or guys with large foam hands and face paint.

It comes with a watertight inner spill proof chamber to play nice with your favorite mixers. Just screw both halves together and throw it around with your friends for a good shake. Unscrew it for your drink. Only $19.95.

Everyone’s favorite Princess rescuing plumber is 25 years old today. That’s right, Super Mario has been around since 1985 and is probably one of the most recognized game characters in the world. This news makes me feel old.

Nintendo is celebrating Mario’s birthday with a contest where you can win a bunch of Mario themed prizes. They are giving away a range of Nintendo DSI XL consoles as well as a copy of the new Super Mario Bros. You can also check out a cool video which shows Super Mario Bros history over the last 25 years here.

Microsoft Employees hold iPhone and Blackberry funerals

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on September 12th, 2010

Last Friday Microsoft employees got out of their cubicles at the Redmond campus to attend a funeral parade that resembles some kind of geek Mardi Gras. There were apparently plenty of crazy outfits, like zombies, Darth Vader and even some Village People impersonations. They were there to lament the BlackBerry and iPhone’s demise.

It looks like it was a sad affair as iPhone and Blackberry mock-ups were carried coffin style to the grave. Obviously Microsoft wanted to make a statement about the upcoming Windows Phone 7.

FCC tears new iPod touch to shreds on camera

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on September 2nd, 2010

Generally when we catch photos and details on new products via the FCC the things are seen in maybe one blurry shot like we had with the Griffin PartyDock not long ago. The FCC has been at work on the iPod touch for it to get the certifications to hit stores in the coming weeks.

The FCC has taken the new iPod touch that was unveiled yesterday, torn the gadget into pieces, and filmed the whole thing. This is something rather new that I haven’t seen the FCC do very often with the complete teardown. We usually have to wait until iFixit and other sites like it get the gadgets to see a teardown.

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on August 31st, 2010

Keeping gadgets like the iPad and iPhone charged up when there are multiple devices in the same house can be a challenge. We have four Apple devices in our house and we only have one charge cable plugged in. We end up jockeying the devices around for charging and that gets to be a pain.

A new dock from PhotoFast has surfaced that is perfect for people with multiple Apple devices. The dock is called the iPADock and has two slots that can support up to four iPhones or iPods for charging. A single slot can also support one iPad as well.

Speculation is that Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS portable 3D gaming handheld could be powered by Marvell. Marvell co-founder Sehat Sutardja dropped some hints during their quarterly earnings call. He says that Marvell chips will soon be used to power a game console.

“Approximately 15% of the sequential increase (in quarterly sales) was due to the initial production revenue from our ARMADA application processors, primarily as a result of a major customer preparing to launch a new gaming platform,”

Flickpad iPad app

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on August 17th, 2010

Here’s an easy way to share and view your own and your friends Facebook and Flickr photos using the iPad. It’s a new app called Flickpad, which is available in both a lite and a paid version. Basically the Flickpad iPad App pulls photos from your Flickr and Facebook contacts and displays them as if scattered on a table on your iPad.

It doesn’t replace Flickr, it just allows you to keep up with your friends photos that have been added or tagged that day. Pretty interesting app.
