3G Rumored for Next iPod Touch

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on July 11th, 2011

Rumor is that users will be able to pop a 3G SIM card into the next iPod Touch and subscribe to a data plan of their choosing. AT&T and Verizon Wireless already offer 3G service for the iPad, so a connected iPod Touch would presumably work just like they do.

If this rumor turns out to be true, this is great news for those wanting a data only phone. Skype could replace a traditional voice plan, and iMessages, the messaging service that will launch with iOS 5 this fall, could reduce the need for SMS. Using data-based services could lead to big savings on a monthly smartphone bill.

Seventh-gen iPod nano with 1.3 megapixel camera?

Posted in iPod Nano by Conner Flynn on May 10th, 2011

Could this be Apple’s next iPod nano? Taiwan’s Apple.pro website thinks so and since they also recently got their hands on a purported next-gen iPod nano chassis that seems to match the device pictured above, it looks likely.

The obvious change is the built-in camera, which is apparently 1.3 megapixels. Take this with the usual grain of salt for now, as we don’t have any confirmation, but it is looking like this is the real deal. We will know for sure before long.

Is the iPod nano 7 getting it’s camera back?

Posted in iPod Nano by Conner Flynn on April 3rd, 2011

A new image may point to the iPod nano’s seventh generation regaining a camera. The part shows what looks like the current iPod, but with a cutout area that looks designed to fit a camera lens on the back.

If this is anywhere near the final product, it looks like Apple has found a way to include a camera in the touchscreen iPod nano redesign. You might remember that the last tall iPod nano actually had a video camera, but it was dropped in the new version, probably because of size and battery life problems. We don’t know if it will include still photography.

iPod classic stock dwindling

Posted in iPod by Conner Flynn on February 8th, 2011

The iPod classic’s popularity has been on the decline for some time. After all, wouldn’t you rather have an iPod Touch? Well, it’s popularity continues to decline daily more and more as reflected by its stock at several retailers.

On Apple’s online store, the silver iPod Classic will ship in one to three days, compared to 24 hours just last week. Best Buy’s website notes that the same color has gone from one-day shipping last week to being backordered by one to to two weeks. That says a lot. It says that very soon the device will be left alone to completely rest in peace. Obviously the iPod classic line will be phased out very soon. It’s sad really.
