Remember the old Operation game. The funny bone was the hardest to get and I can still hear that buzzer! Now Hasbro is launching a new edition of the popular board game, but they have switched the red-nosed guy for R2-D2.

The game can be pre-ordered now for $27, and it will ship in September. Jawas are no longer the only guys who get to operate on droids. I wonder what R2′s hardest part to remove is.

The R2-D2 talking money box is a great way to save up for all of that Star Wars gear you want to buy. But R2-D2 doesn’t talk, so really you are just getting a bunch of beeps and boops that you will need Luke to translate.

It’s just $34. Lucas has gotten rich off of you buying all of this R2 gear, so saving money is the least this little droid can help you to do.

Now that is exactly the droid I’ve been looking for. These Star Wars Swim Suits were designed by a fan from Brisbane, Australia. The R2D2 version will make your inner geek happy and have you loving the droid in a whole new way.

The Lord Vader version is called the Darkside and is basically just a mash-up of Vader and the Dark Side of the Moon art. Both are priced at $85 on Black Milk.com.

I really like to see some of the awesome DIY stuff that geeks come up with and when that stuff has to do with Star Wars it’s even better. A dude has created his own DIY R2D2 bot that is larger than the actual robot so the guy can fit inside the ting to drive it.

The replica of R2D2 has a flip up dome that the guy climbs into. Once inside the robot he activate sound effects and somehow control how the thing moves around. It has fans inside too to keep the geek cool.

Artoo is back. This time from Hammacher as a Voice Activated R2-D2 toy for rich geeks. This motorized replica will respond to various voice commands, going through your halls and rooms as if easily as he traverses Tatooine.

He can obey over 40 voice commands. Stuff like “Turn around!,” “Move forward two units!” etc. Which makes your droid seem like a lame version of R2, but it’s the best we can do right now. He also has games like tag, relying on his built-in infrared sensor to search for you.

Pranks are fun as long as no one gets hurt. When you can put a geeky twist on a prank, it can be gold. That’s what we have here. Pure nerd gold. See that giant R2-D2? It used to be an observatory.

Well, until students at Minnesota’s Carleton College turned the campus astronomical observatory into a giant R2-D2. Man, I hope the Empire can’t see that from space. They might come looking for the Death Star plans.

It just sits there and doesn’t really do anything, but who cares? It’s cool. At least until your neighbors steal it. They don’t say how big it is, but for that price it is obviously on the small side.

Nothing says Christmas like a string or two of droid lights on your Christmas tree. Besides you probably already have all of the other Star Wars ornaments on your tree.

It’s like having a whole clone army of Astromechs. The little robot lights come in a set of 10 per strand and are 12 inches apart. These are priced at about $15-$25. And if you don’t want them on your tree they make great geek gifts.

An R2D2 Pez Dispenser is a pretty cool geek toy by itself. But it’s even better when that R2 Pez dispenser is also a USB flash drive. Candy + storage = Awesome. More impressive, it is still a working Pez dispenser.

It can’t hold quite as much as an un-tampered with dispenser, but that’s still pretty awesome, because the lost candy is replaced with storage. It can only hold 3 pieces of Pez. Hey, the important thing is that it can hold any at all. It will hold 2GB of data.

The jawas aren’t the only ones abducting droids and tinkering with them. The modder known as Frenkie created this awesome R2-D2 case mod, using an old garbage can and a lot of mad skillz. He really did an awesome job and got almost all of the details.

Our favorite droid gets a gadget makeover yet again. When is he ever going to get some respect? If he isn’t pulling aquarium duty, he’s keeping your stuff cold. And when he isn’t acting as your own personal fridge, he’s a drink server.

Well, now someone’s taken a Lego R2 and made him into a USB drive. Which is neat and all, but he still ain’t gettin no respect. Because when you plug the little guy into your usb port, he just looks like he got shot out of a cannon and got stuck in your laptop and should be flailing his legs. Such is the life of an overly merchandised droid.

Not since the Steampunk R2-D2 have we been so shocked to see the droid in a whole new way. But this time it’s droid blasphemy really. Now the robot holds a 1 3/4-gallon aquarium tank in his central compartment. We always knew there was something fishy about R2, but damned if this doesn’t make us sad. Astromech droids were not made to be used as aquariums people. I don’t care how bad the prequels are.

The domed head rotates with vocal commands and he beeps just like in the movies. But if Luke had this model with him in the Death Star, he would have had to stop and feed fish every so often. The radar eye houses the eyepiece to a built-in periscope that provides an intimate view of the tank.

This R2-D2 compact fridge is hot as tatooine outside and cold as the ice planet Hoth inside, so it will impress your friends and keep your food fresh. It was made back in 2002 as a promotional item for an Attack of the Clones contest held at 7-11 Stores in Japan. Apparently only 1000 of these rare refrigerators were ever made, making it a hot and cool collectible at the same time.

Luckily for you, you can buy one from Toyeast for $1070. Of course, that is probably your grocery money so you won’t have anything to put in it. Empty or not, you’ll have your own astromech droid. Now you’ll just need an X-Wing to put him in.

Another day, another R2-D2 doo-dad to clutter up our lives. We’ll add this one to the droid dossier we’re compiling on the little guy. And for once, R2′s dome is intact and not decapitated. Just barter with some Jawas, bring this clock home to the moisture farm and have him project the time onto your wall.

At least having the time projected onto your wall makes it easy to see at night, plus you don’t have any shelf space left since your shelves have become a landing pad for Star Wars vehicles.
