Angry Birds hits PS3 and PSP

The anger of birds knows no bounds as the game has now arrived on the PS3 and PSP. The Angry Birds game will be released as a PlayStation mini title, so it can be played on your PlayStation 3 console or a PlayStation Portable.

Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka says that mobile titles hitting consoles will become more common. “The smartphone gaming platform is actually turning out to be the biggest and most played out there,” he said. “So it’s starting to beat the traditional games on consoles and PCs.”

Tokyo taxis get Wi-Fi and PSPs

Taxis in Tokyo are among the most expensive in the world. But now NTT DoCoMo is planning to add value to the taxis by offering free Wi-Fi. 820 vehicles to be exact. Though I doubt your taxi will be surrounded by beautiful babes like in this picture.

Also about 100 of the taxis will get PSP’s to keep customers distracted from the meter as much as possible. The service is in testing phase now and will roll out fully by March 2011.

Sony PSP to get Qriocity music with next update

So, what is the music service on Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Phone? PSP owners will soon have access to what may be signs of things to come. Sony has announced that a new software update, version 6.35, would prepare the PSP for Sony’s upcoming “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity” service.

Like Zune, Rhapsody, Napster and other services, Music Unlimited will be a cloud-based product that allows subscribers to stream music on demand to their devices. It will launch soon. Maybe Sony can finally get one over on iOS with this ingrained unlimited music client.

EA confirms PSP2 exists

Game developer EA has acknowledged that it had seen at least details of Sony’s PSP2. Senior VP Patrick Soderlund wouldn’t say whether it included the actual hardware or target specifications but noted that as a developer, they have had access.

In case you missed it, rumors have been circulating that Sony has been showing the PSP2 to developers to get them ready for development, but we don’t yet know the exact nature of the design. Some rumors give this new handheld as much power as an Xbox 360, with a backside touchpad and other additions. Performance isn’t likely to be that high, but it may use Android to run the same games and apps as the PlayStation phone.

PSP Go price cut to $200 in the US and Japan

We knew it was coming. Sure enough Sony just cut ¥10k off the price of the PSP Go in Japan. That price is effective on Tuesday. That brings the price down to ¥16,800 or about $200.

That’s a much better price point which Sony has been toying with in the US for awhile. You can find it right now for a $199 listing on Amazon and Gamestop.

Lately we’ve been hearing new reports of the PSP2. There’s talk of a touchpad on the back of the device for one thing. Apparently Sony has been showing it off to some developers. And now Kotaku has learned a few more details, like a larger display, an inch larger than the current PSP’s with high-def resolution.

Apparently Sony is still fine tuning the internal hardware, trying to overcome some overheating issues. They are looking at a release sometime in the fall of 2011. Probably for the 2011 E3.

PSPgo to drop to $200 this Friday?

Sony’s PSPgo left a a lot to be desired and that $250 asking price isn’t helping It just can’t compete with other handheld consoles. But if you’ve been thinking about buying the PSPgo anyway, here’s some good news.

A leaked document seems to indicate that there might be a $50 price drop coming soon. Sony hasn’t commented on this, neither a refute or a confirmation. But they have to start moving units.

This time you will get Monster Hunter Portable 3 graphics, and this PSP also ships with a slightly enhanced analog stick and a better 2200mAh capacity battery.

Trapped Chilean miners get PSPs

If anyone ever needed some entertainment, it is people stuck in a mine. It helps to take your mind off the fact that you are in an enclosed space and trapped there for months. At least for a few moments anyway.

Just in case you have been in a mine of your own, there are 33 miners trapped in a collapsed mine shaft in Chile right now, and they are going to be down there for a long time. Maybe three to four months. Thank god for video games.

Next PSP may have Touch-Controls on back

The rumor around Gamescom in Cologne, Germany this week, is that select VIPs are getting hands-on with the next PSP, which is said to feature touch-controls on the back of the device for added gameplay input. Sources have told Eurogamer that it’s scheduled to go on sale before 2011 is over.

Other rumors say that the next PSP will contain dual cameras, a touchscreen, a four-cell processor and even embedded 3G connectivity. We can only hope that half of these rumors are true.

Sony Ericsson to introduce Android 3.0 PSP Go inspired gaming phone

Sony Ericsson hasn’t really ventured into the Android market, but we may soon be seeing an Android 3.0 phone from Sony Ericsson that will be designed with the PSP Go layout in mind. Instead of a QWERTY keyboard there may be gaming controls sliding out of the phone. The display is on the large side and likely around the 4 inch mark.

An android gaming phone inspired by the PSP. Color us intrigued. Soon you will be playing games like God of War or LittleBigPlanet on your Android phone!

Sony PSP-4000 to launch in 2010?

Will we get a PSP-4000 in 2010? We just might, according to the publication of a document that refers to an upcoming PSP-4000 by Japanese retailer Geo. It has sparked some rumors on the web. The document is in Japanese and says that the PSP-4000 will be on store shelves this year along with the Nintendo 3DS.

Problem is that Nintendo expects the 3DS to be available in the first quarter of 2011. And why wouldn’t Sony have started some hype at E3? Still, you never know.

PSP2 to be announced at E3?

Rumors are swirling that Sony will be announcing a new version of the PSP in just a few weeks at E3. And we aren’t talking something like the PSPGo. We’re talking a true PSP successor.

With E3 just around the corner in June, we will know for sure soon. Don’t forget, Sony needs something to compete with Nintendo’s 3DS. Sony’s latest financial results show that they absolutely need a new PSP. How about 14.1million PSP sales in 2008, to 9.9million in 2009?

GameBone turns your iPhone into a PSP

When last we checked in with the Gamebone, it looked, well, like a bone. Thankfully the latest version actually looks good, even if it does turn your iPhone into a PSP lookalike, giving it four buttons and a d-pad. The accessory features a 2000mAh battery for extra power, an LED to display charging and capacity, start/select buttons, built-in stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an omni-directional microphone.

We don’t have a release date yet, but you can expect it by the end of the year. 22moo has released developer tools to make games compatible with the accessory.

Turn your PSP into a VU Meter

If you think that the PSP is just another gadget whose time has passed, think again. It can still surprise you. This mod turns a PSP into a VU Meter (volume meter). It’s not a mod that most of us have any use for, but it shows the versatility of the PSP and what can be done.

You can check out a video below. It makes for some great effects while playing music. We would all like our PSPs to rock out like that.
