Sony PSP branded earphones

Posted in Earbuds by Conner Flynn on May 10th, 2011

PSN may be suffering an outage, but Sony still needs to keep the empire rolling along as best they can. So Sony has just introduced a new line of PlayStation Portable branded earphones. They come in six different colors (black, white, silver, red, blue and pink) and will deliver high resolution sound. They claim that it has powerful bass and clear treble output.

These are perfect for the PlayStation Portable and should work fine with your other devices that have a 3.5mm audio jack. These Sony PSP earphones arrive this summer in Japan for $27 (2,200 Yen). Hopefully we get them soon after. By then PSN should be back up. We hope.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play was given its first detailed hands-on in our part of the world today. The PlayStation phone is fairly fast and runs a 1GHz Snapdragon. Engadget found that it now hits 59FPS in Qualcomm’s NeoCore benchmark and is capable of even tying the 43FPS of the dual-core LG Optimus 2X in NenaMark.

They discovered that the PSP Go-like controls mapped directly to regular Android navigation and could even be assigned to work in an emulator. The device won’t properly play games that need secondary shoulder buttons but the dual optical pads should replicate a game that would need analog sticks.

The PlayStation Phone has found its way into the hands of some folks and now a video has popped up showing one of these lucky guys playing Resident Evil 2 and Rage Racer on it. The hardware seems legit, but the titles had to be loaded through ROM Buddy (a third-party Android app for running ROMs), so we are guessing that the software is still being worked on.

At least that’s what it looks like, but this could be a hoax. You can check out the video for yourself below and let us know what you think.

Game developer EA has acknowledged that it had seen at least details of Sony’s PSP2. Senior VP Patrick Soderlund wouldn’t say whether it included the actual hardware or target specifications but noted that as a developer, they have had access.

In case you missed it, rumors have been circulating that Sony has been showing the PSP2 to developers to get them ready for development, but we don’t yet know the exact nature of the design. Some rumors give this new handheld as much power as an Xbox 360, with a backside touchpad and other additions. Performance isn’t likely to be that high, but it may use Android to run the same games and apps as the PlayStation phone.
