LG announces the C320 Lady, for the ladies

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on November 5th, 2010

The LG C320 is aimed at the fairer sex, with a feminine design and colors to match. It sports a QWERTY keyboard that slides out, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, an integrated MP3 player, FM radio, and a microSD expansion slot.

Then there’s the pre-installed social stuff, like Facebook and Twitter. It’s just a basic phone designed to look cute. The price and availability of the LG C320 Lady is unknown. Why do they call them the fairer sex anyway? It’s hardly fair that she expects me to turn my PS3 off and spend time with her, instead of earning new weapons in Call Of Duty.

Sony’s PS3 Bluetooth headset goes slim

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on November 3rd, 2010

The official Bluetooth headset for the PS3 has been around for a few years for $49.99 with no design changes whatsoever. Now it looks like Sony is finally making an update, slimming down the sides to make it look more sleek.

The price should stay the same. It will just be thinner with a thinner clip. It won’t make any difference to you or your teammates as you bark orders at them while playing Call Of Duty.

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on October 28th, 2010

Sony has been selling a 320GB PS3 bundled with a Move controller, PlayStation Eye, and Sports Champions for $400, but now the 320GB model will soon be available all by itself. Great for those of us who hate to move around. At only $50 more, the bundle with the Move paraphernalia is a great deal though.

Sony says they are shipping the new standalone SKU to stores right now so keep an eye out for it and a spare $350.

Netflix on Wii goes disc-free

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 18th, 2010

The PS3 isn’t the only console that will be streaming Netflix disc-free. The Wii is getting in on the action as well! Americans and Canadians will be able to download and install Netflix from the Wii Shop Channel, as long as they’ve signed up for a subscription of $8.99 (C$7.99 in Canada) or above.

Over three million Wii consoles are said to have been hooked up with Netflix since the service launched back in April, and this step should make that number grow even larger, since it makes Netflix more convenient than ever.

Netflix for PS3 is now disc-free, with 1080i streaming and 5.1 surround sound

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2010

It’s a great time to be a PS3 owner as Netflix streaming just got better than anything else on the market. Beginning on October 18 Netflix on the PS3 will no longer require a disc, and it’ll stream some content with 1080i resolution and / or 5.1-channel surround audio.

You’ll also get subtitles on some content as well. Netflix is partnering with Dolby and the surround format will be Dolby Digital Plus. Netflix says that 5.1 will come to other platforms “over time,”. Makes me glad I have a PS3.

It’s a good time to upgrade to a PlayStation3, with all of the various things that the console can do. These surround speakers are the latest reason. The bar has an in-built subwoofer and it connects using an optical connection.

It also has analog input for other sources and the device ships with its own remote control that allows users to pick from standard, stereo, vivid and dynamic sound fields. Other specs include a night mode, where the bass is reduced, the subwoofer with 30W of power and front-facing speakers with 10W of power.

Redbox testing game rentals at kiosks across the US

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on October 13th, 2010

Looks like Redbox will start renting out video games at DVD rental kiosks across the US this month, expanding on some earlier tests in limited markets, while trying to outdo its main competitor Netflix, which doesn’t offer video games at all.

The company is currently expanding their test, which started in 2009, to include more markets in the West, Midwest and Atlantic coast. They are trying to gauge consumer interest in video game rentals. You’ll be able to get games for the PS3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS.

PS3 and Lovefilm get official

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on October 13th, 2010

The earlier leak came directly from Sony itself, so this isn’t a suprise, but Eurogamer has confirmed that British film streaming service Lovefilm will indeed be coming to the PlayStation 3. If you have never heard of them, it is basically the UK answer to Netflix.

The partnership will allow people to buy pay-per-view movies or, if they’re on Lovefilm’s £5.99 subscription or above, let them stream content. In this case on the PS3.

Lovefilm could be headed to UK PlayStation 3 consoles

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on October 11th, 2010

Many Americans may not know what Lovefilm is and may have never heard of it, but for those living in the UK, it’s basically their Netflix. So UKers are probably very happy about a video that has since been pulled from Sony’s YouTube channel.

Basically Lovefilm streaming will be coming to UK-based PS3 owners sometime this autumn, with a bunch of search options available and free trials offered to those who’ve yet to try it out. We’ll likely hear more from Sony soon, but for now keep your fingers crossed.

This will happen sometime this month. US users should check the PlayStation Store for the app anytime now. Reports suggest that Canadian PS3s are getting it earlier than expected as well. Canadians do not have a mail-order DVD option, their service is exclusively a streaming one.

Movie studios to bring pre-DVD streaming to PS3, Xbox, more

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on September 27th, 2010

Here’s more great news for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners. Disney, Sony and Warner are close to testing a system that would give Internet access to movies before they’ve reached Blu-ray or DVD. Disney would be the most aggressive and would allow viewers watch movies on any web-connected device and possibly the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Disney would likely be cautious at first, trying one movie under the plan in an early 2011 trial.

We aren’t sure if Apple would be involved, but Steve Jobs sits on Disney’s board of directors. In Demand, a partnership between Comcast, Cox and Time Warner, said through CEO Bob Benya that the collective is in talks for a similar option through cable TV and maybe online.
