Duracell Extender adds memory card slots and more USB ports to your PS3 Slim

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on May 31st, 2011

Were you feeling sad when the PS3 got slimmed down? It did lose a few USB ports and support for memory cards. Well, now Duracell is correcting this problem with the Duracell Extender. Just put it to the right of your PS3 and it will extend the console’s body, making it wider and giving you three additional USB ports, an SD and memory stick card slot, and a place to store two controllers.

Pretty cool. However, keep in mind that this unit requires it’s own power supply, which it draws from one of the PS3′s USB ports, so it is using up one port and gives you two additional USB ports. You can get it right now for about $80.

Sony: no PSN credit card info taken, change your passwords

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

Regarding the hacked PSN network, Sony now says that there is “no evidence” that credit card information had been taken and that the data itself had been encrypted. They can’t rule it entirely, but the security code for credit cards wasn’t compromised since it wasn’t in the system.

However, a password change will now be mandatory for everyone as soon as PSN comes back online and that is just good sense. A firmware update will address the issue when they are ready. Sony promises more details to come soon.

New Sony PlayStation 3 CECH-3001A hits the FCC

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

We’ve had the same PS3 consoles on the market for a while now. The only significant change came with the new slim format. But now a pair of new PS3 consoles has hit the FCC recently. All we really know is that they have Bluetooth and WiFi and that we could have guessed ourselves.

The new consoles go by model numbers CECH-3001A and CECH-3001B. The letter seems to denote different HDD sizes. So what are the changes? Maybe a new update to the chipset? Maybe some updates to keep them safe from hackers too. Then again, maybe this is just adding a new HDD capacity option. Thoughts?

GAEMS Xbox 360 traveling case gets a price and release date

Posted in gaming accessories by Conner Flynn on February 20th, 2011

The last version of the GAEMS console-carrying case was pretty basic. It was neat, don’t get us wrong, but it was basically just a lunch box shaped suitcase for your console. Those of you who carry your Xbox 360 with you on the road will appreciate the company’s new case design.

It now supports both the fat and slim versions of the 360, not discriminating at all and it will even carry the PS3 Slim. There is now enough room to store the console, controllers and power brick. This new case also comes bundled with a remote, HDMI cable and power supply to power the speakers and LED screen.

Monster TRON PS3 Slim Powerstation 400

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2010

The Tron Marketing madness continues and even the PS3 will not be spared. Monster has introduced the Monster TRON Legacy PS3 Slim Powerstation 400. It offers Monster’s Clean Power technology, a 4-port USB smart charger where the USB ports can be used for accessories like guitars, drum sets etc.

Sure it does all of that stuff, but the most important thing is that you’ll have a constant reminder of a movie that will likely suck. It’ll cost you $79.95 and is available now.

New Bluetooth Headset for PS3 is official

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on November 8th, 2010

We knew it was coming and things just got more official. The new Bluetooth headset for the PS3 comes in a new form factor, shedding some weight and looking more stylish. This Bluetooth headset features a dual-microphone design, automatic pairing via USB cable with the PS3, an in-game headset status indicator, an easy to access mute button, and a charging cradle that doubles as a desktop microphone.

It looks much sexier now and matches the PS3 much better. They also claim that this is the only peripheral that delivers a High-Quality mode for crystal clear voice chat while gaming. It’s still just $49.99.

Sony’s PS3 Bluetooth headset goes slim

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on November 3rd, 2010

The official Bluetooth headset for the PS3 has been around for a few years for $49.99 with no design changes whatsoever. Now it looks like Sony is finally making an update, slimming down the sides to make it look more sleek.

The price should stay the same. It will just be thinner with a thinner clip. It won’t make any difference to you or your teammates as you bark orders at them while playing Call Of Duty.

Classic White DualShock 3 appears

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on September 6th, 2010

The heavenly white PS3 Slim pictured above can be found in Japan, but the “Classic White” DualShock 3 beside it has just appeared for preorder at e-tailers in the US. We doubt very much that a white 160GB game system will follow this controller across the Pacific, but it also would not surprise us too much if Sony reveals one before these preorders ship on October 15th.

Because Sony already sells a “Ceramic White” controller, and as Engadget points out, unless you’re attempting to match colors, a single shade of white is generally all you need.

PS3 goes Titanium Blue for Gran Turismo 5 bundle

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on August 18th, 2010

Gran Turismo 5 will launch in Japan and Europe on November 3. But the most shocking thing here is that Titanium blue PS3 shown above. That shockingly colorful console will come bundled with the racing game over in Japan this fall.

It will cost you ¥35,980 (or $421) for the Gran Turismo 5 Racing Pack, which will consist of a Limited Edition copy of the game plus a repainted PlayStation 3 slim with a 160GB hard drive.

160GB PS3 slim shows up on GameStop’s website

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on August 17th, 2010

IGN spotted a listing today for a slim PlayStation 3 with 160GB of storage, with a shipping date of today for $299.99. The listing has been removed since then, but it has shown up at Newegg for the same price with a projected arrival date of August 19 .

Interestingly, Sony has a press conference lined up at GamesCom for mid-afternoon ET tomorrow, where this might be announced. It’s getting hard to keep up with all of these capacities.

White PS3 with new HDD capacities surfaces in Japan

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on July 6th, 2010

Sony saw the sales of its PS3 increase significantly, when the price was cut and the PS3 Slim hit the market. The console is still selling decently and fans in Japan will have a new color with a couple new features to choose from soon.

The new PS3 console will be offered in the existing black color and can be had in white as well. The console is replacing the current 120GB and 250GB HDDs with new 160GB and 320GB HDDs.

Xbox 360 sales surge in Japan after slim launch

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2010

People like their consoles like they like their supermodels, thin and puking. Well, thin anyway. With two nice round buttons in front. But nevermind that. The newly launched Xbox 360 has sold 15,000 units in Japan in the first four days. The strong sales were in addition to 2,370 of the previous generation version of the games console. The week before the release saw only 2,060 Xbox units of any kind moved.

Sales were helped by the launch of Capcom’s top-selling game, Monster Hunter Frontier Online. In Japan the new slim console costs $339 while the previous Elite version dropped to $282.

Gioteck In2Link for PS3 Slim announced

Posted in Accessories by Shane McGlaun on June 18th, 2010

I just mentioned that cool looking MX-2 remote control from Gioteck. I also mentioned that you would need an IR adapter of some sort for it to work. The good news is that Gioteck has one of those coming too.

The device is called the Gioteck In2Link for the PS3 Slim. It not only adds a wide angle IR receiver, but it also adds some lost connectivity. The device plugs into the two USB ports of the Slim and adds a third powered USB port.

FCC listings point to new PS3 models

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on June 11th, 2010

The PS3 has been around for a while now and the last time it was updated we ended up with the PS3 Slim. Since the thinner and cooler running version of the console turned up, we haven’t seen anything new from Sony on the PS3.

With E3 kicking off next week it appears that there is a chance we may have some announcements from Sony on new PS3 models. A couple new PS3 model numbers have come across the FCC.

PS3 Twistdock looks stylish

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 2nd, 2010

Console docking stations are usually ugly and cheap, but this one actually looks decent. Even stylish. It even swivels. This dock will hold either the original PS3 or the PS3 Slim. It holds the console and charges two controllers at once while giving you four extra USB ports.

Sure, it takes up more space then just laying your console down, but if you love your console, why not display it as if in a museum? Maybe shine some light down on it while you’re at it. It will cost you about $100 in the UK right now.
