jOG forces Wii gamers to move around more

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on January 7th, 2009

jOG forces Wii gamers to move around moreSure, you’ve flicked your wrist again and again playing Wii Tennis. You’ve swung your arms about while playing baseball. Now, prepare to run…jOG. The jOG for Wii (also compatible with PS2) only allows gamers to use their joysticks if they’re physically jogging at the same time.

The device works by connecting to your controller through a cable and then being attached to your pants. After that, if you want to use the controller’s joystick, you better be jogging fatty. The jOG-S21 will be available in the near future and will cost around $25. Below you’ll find a video demonstrating how the jOG works.

Two brothers choke and stab one another over Playstation 2

Posted in PS2 by Conner Flynn on December 23rd, 2008

Two brothers choke and stab one another over Playstation 2Two brothers living in Waukesha reportedly choked, cut and stabbed each other when they fought over a Playstation 2 video game controller. Waukesha Police are recommending that charges be brought against both brothers who acted out of violent anger. When family members are freakin’ stabbed by other family members over video games, it reminds us all that despite our various awesome human achievements, there are still some turds floating around in the human gene pool just waiting to be flushed. This is exactly the kind of thing that gets government all up in our gaming bidness, when parenting could have avoided it all, by raising level-headed humans instead of ignorant savages who choke and stab, because they couldn’t get back into their fantasy world fast enough.

The incident took place on Sunday at a home on Whiterock Avenue where the two brothers got into an argument over whose turn it was to play the video game. The fighting went from yelling to one of the brothers choking the other. Apparently, the brother who was being choked pulled out a knife and cut the hands of the choker, after which the kid doing the choking took the knife and stabbed his brother and then fled the scene. The brother who ran then walked to the hospital and suffered from severely frostbitten fingers.

Need for Speed Undercover is now shipping

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on November 19th, 2008

Need for Speed UndercoverI have mentioned before that I have been a big fan of the Need for Speed series since it first debuted years ago. My favorite title in the series was Need for Speed Most Wanted. I really liked the chases where you run from the cops in the cars you customize yourself.

The series got away from the cop chases and went more “PC” with Need for Speed Pro Street and as cool as that game was, I missed the chases. Need for Speed Undercover brings the police chases back to the series and EA announced this week that the game is now shipping.

Atari will publish Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on November 7th, 2008

Ghostbusters GameI really liked Ghostbusters when I was a kid and Atari has some really good news. As Ray Parker would say, “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” the Ghostbusters game has found a publisher. Whether or not the game would make it was debatable after it was dropped from the lineup of the original game publisher.

Atari has announced that it will be bringing Ghostbusters: The Video Game to market in 2009 for six game systems. The game should be cool for those who grew up watching the movies. The original cast is back for the game lending likenesses and voices to the project.

Rock Band Stage Kit set to hit this month

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on October 14th, 2008

Rock Band Stage KitIf August came and went and you weren’t able to get your hands on the Rock Band Stage Kit for the Xbox 360, maker PDP promises that the strobe light and smoke machine kit will be available starting in at the end of the month. I’m a big fan of Rock Band, but I’m not sure I could look myself in the mirror if I actually used this thing. It’s just a little too geeky for me and I am a professional geek.

If you think you can look at your own reflection after rocking out with smoke and flashing lights in your own living room, the kit will set you back $99. PDP says this time the kit will be available on October 26. What you get for your C-note is a fog machine and a strobe light kit.

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on October 9th, 2008

Need for Speed UndercoverI have been playing the Need for Speed series since it debuted for the PC and PS2 years ago. One of the things I missed most with Need for Speed Pro Street was the cop chases. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit was one of my favorite games in the series thanks to the police chases.

EA announced some new details for the latest title in the franchise called Need for Speed Undercover. The game will offer several online modes including modes similar to what we got on Pro Street for circuit race and sprint race.

AirG: A Wii guitar in the palm of your hand

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 7th, 2008

AirG: A Wii guitar in the palm of your handOne thing that sucks about playing games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero is that the peripherals take up a lot of space in your home. The AirG for the upcoming Wii game PopStar Guitar fits in your hand. (And looks like some preschool toy) Just slip the Wiimote into the AirG case and begin rockng out wirelessly with four fret buttons.

The game will cost about $60 and include two AirGs. The PS2 version of the game uses existing toy guitars to play. It’s available this November and those that live with you will thank you for not bringing another plastic guitar in the house, so they don’t have to go all Pete Townsend and smash it.

Teen girls get Aly & AJ guitar controllers

Posted in Controllers,Games by Shane McGlaun on August 21st, 2008

Aly & AJ Guitar ControllersWhen most people think of gamers, they think of guys. While that is fairly accurate, many girls also enjoy playing video games. One the most popular genres with the ladies are music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The plain and masculine guitar controllers typically available with the games can be a problem for the ladies. Thankfully girly controllers are available in the aftermarket.

PDP has announced that new guitar controllers compatible with both Rock Band and Guitar Hero will be available in mid-October for $69.99 each. The controllers were designed with cooperation from teen rock star’s Aly & AJ. The guitar designed by Aly features a heart and cross bone print in pink and brown.

Gyroxus full-motion game chair gets price cut

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on August 4th, 2008

Gyroxus Game ChairLike many guys my age that grew up on video games and now have the money to buy what they want to satisfy the need for gaming, I am always on the lookout for something new and cool. I have force feedback controllers and the like, but what I really want is a full-motion simulator for driving and flying games. You can get them now, but they are much more expensive than I am interested in paying.

The Gyroxus hit market at a price of $479, not too bad for a full-motion simulator, but certainly not cheap when you consider you can get any of today’s console systems for less than that amount. Today 4th Motion — the makers of the Gyroxus — announced that the price of the Gyroxus was being cut by $100.

Logitech & Activision to develop premium instruments for Guitar Hero
Activision and Logitech have announced a partnership where Logitech will create “premium” instrument controllers for Guitar Hero: World Tour. The press release isn’t very clear, but we take that to mean that Logitech will be making nicer, more beautiful and more expensive versions of the stock Guitar Hero guitars for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii. .

The new gear will be fully compatible with World Tour. This is probably good news for fans of GH since Logitech makes quality stuff. Soon you’ll be rocking a far better ax then you rock now.

Starpex Guitar ControllerMusic games are huge right now and the popularity of the games has music labels and bands rushing to get their tracks into games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Ant Commandos wireless bass for Guitar Hero, Rock Band
For those of you who have been doing their best to play bass on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, this is what you want. The other guitars aren’t bass guitars. We told you about Ant Commano’s Double Range Guitar in May.

Now they’ve released this wireless PS2/PS3 bass guitar as they actually care about the bass player. You still won’t be able to double-strum using two fingers like other versions, but it’s a nice looking bass that you can have for $69. With all the money you’ve invested in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, maybe it’s time to buy the real deal?

Japan gets red Playstation 2 console

Japan gets red Playstation 2 console
Once again Japan gets all the cool things. Like this latest, the Cinnabar Red PlayStation 2. It should be available on July 3rd, for the equivalent of $155 US. Perfect if you love rocking red, or if you have some sort of Hell theme happening. In fact, it would probably be at home in Hellboy’s house. Hell. Damnation. The damned. Red is the color of anger you know. I think it’s affecting me in a strange way.
