Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on June 20th, 2011

How about some crystal clear myTouch 4G Slide in the wild shots? The device has shown up in some pics that are actually pretty nice and clear. Looks like it will definitely run Gingerbread with an HTC Sense UI. The keyboard is said to be amazing and the phone surprisingly fast.

Apparently the keyboard also feels a lot like the G2 keyboard. The phone also apparently weighs in at a little bit more than the G2, so we will see how it feels. Nice to see it clearly for once.

Vodafone truck can charge 2,000 mobile handsets at one time

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on May 26th, 2011

Keeping your phone juiced up while at a festival or large event is hard to do. Some independent companies have even set up camps and charge festival-goers to power their smartphones. But now the Vodafone VIP recharging truck is on the road and headed to 11 festivals this year.

The truck offers Vodafone customers the opportunity to charge up completely free of charge. That way you can go on snapping pics and texting away. This 44 ton vehicle can charge 2,000 devices at once just as quickly as it would at home. They are expecting to charge over 72,000 mobile devices this summer alone. That’s a lot of juice.

Revolver Camera shoots a bullet, takes a picture

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Photographers who also like to shoot guns will love this weapon. This weapon fires bullets and takes pictures at the same time. It was apparently used in 1938 in New York. The gun is a Colt 38 and it had a tiny camera attached to it that was controlled by the trigger.

We don’t have much more information than that, but it’s impressive. One thing is for sure, you don’t want to be in these pictures. Good thing nobody else got their hands on it. I can easily imagine some whack job firing away at people and posting the pics online. Yeah, this is not a good combination here.

New Verizon LG Revolution Pics

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

The LG Revolution from Verizon Wireless will be launching on May 26 and now we have the first real images that have surfaced online. It will feature Bing as the default search engine and run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. You can see the lock screen and that smooth new black cover in the above image.

We aren’t sure if we prefer the black cover to the silver back that was on display at CES, but either way it looks sexy. And if you are interested in the packaging, it will look nearly identical to that of the HTC Thunderbolt.

Twitter For BlackBerry Version 2 Beta Now Available

Posted in twitter by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2011

Good news for Twitter users who also use a Blackberry. Twitter for BlackBerry version 2 Beta is now available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. RIM will do things differently this time, offering more frequent beta versions with features added and the current version 2 of the Twitter app brings a simplified navigation bar at the top.

It puts the Search, Find People, and Popular Topics screens into one Single Search Screen in addition to integrating with the Universal Search feature. It also offers a new Black Chrome color scheme and the Compose Tweet button is accessible and allows you to tweet from anywhere in the app. Sounds like some useful improvements.

BlackBerry PlayBook gets a tear down

Posted in BlackBerry,Playbook by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2011

Do you know what’s in your PlayBook? Well, we already knew most of the specs, but some things we were unsure of. Like whether the 7-inch tablet had a gyroscope. Now we know that it does, thanks to the guys over at iFixit who have done their usual great job of prying a gadget open and digging inside. What would we do without them?

They gave it a repairability score of 7 out of 10, which is pretty good. Replacing the front glass is a bit hard, but that is true of most devices. Hit the link below for the full details and lots of awesome pics. And don’t try it at home unless you are very confident in your skills.

This teardown isn’t up to the standards of the folks over at iFixit, but it is a teardown just the same. We love to see what makes these devices tick after all. Hit the link below for more details and pics.

Comic Strip Picture Frame

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

Digital picture frames are cool, but comic strips are better. No one prints photos these days, but I bet this new Comic Strip Picture Frame will get people printing them again. It lets you make your own new adventure using your pics.

It has six spots for you to put your prints into and it comes with sticker bubbles and a tiny pen. Just think up some cool and funny stuff to write on those bubbles and you have your own comic strip.

20% of Americans use the internet while driving

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2011

Texting while driving is already a serious problem, but now there’s another danger to watch out for. Drivers who use the internet on the phone while driving. According to a survey by US insurance company, State Farm, one in five Americans that own a smartphone admits to using the internet while driving.

One of the biggest reasons they log on to the internet is to check their social networks. Other reasons cited were looking for directions, reading email or just searching for topics that interest them. Most of the time this occurs during red lights or when drivers are caught in traffic jams. I guess that at least is good news.

Microsoft wants to eliminate blurry DSLR photos

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on January 24th, 2011

Many of us have a problem shooting blurry pics. It can be hard to hold your camera still. If you have this same problem and have some DIY skills, you might be able to make your own custom solution to blurry photos.

This is thanks to a team at Microsoft Research who is working on deblurring images by detecting inertial movements of the camera itself. They took an Arduino board and bundled it with some sensors, including a Bluetooth modem, 3-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and a trigger for the camera. The system works by detecting rotation, translation and planar depth and then it applies mathematical transformations to the image to remove the blur caused by these movements. Pretty good solution.

The Caoon DSLR, MP3 player, speaker

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2010

Yesterday we showed you a cool Canon EOS 350D savings bank. Today we have another Camera based oddity. This DSLR-themed speaker and MP3 player cleverly dances around the copyright issue by calling itself ‘Caoon’ instead of Canon. Even though it’s a near perfect replica of one of the company’s DSLRs.

It won’t take pics, but will serve as an external speaker for any device connected to the 3.5mm audio port, or as an MP3 player loading content from an SD card or USB flash drive. The buttons to the left of the display are playback controls. It will cost you $82.99.

Another iPad 2 case shows up with slots for mesh speakers

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on December 24th, 2010

We recently saw some leaked pics of new iPad cases for the next-generation Apple iPad, and interestingly they had a large opening at the bottom of the case. Some speculated that it was for larger speakers or a built-in SD card slot.

Now another iPad case has surfaced that shows the rear with a metal mesh for an iPad speaker. This comes after recent reports hinted that the slot is for a speaker instead of an SD card slot.
