Sting Scorpion PC casemod

Posted in Cases by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2009

Sting Scorpion PC casemodThe last time we saw this much circuit board on the outside of a mod, it was my very own Atari-Hero guitar mod. So right away this caught my attention.

Modder Frenkie designed this glow-in-the-dark case mod that features strips of circuit board to give it the scorpion-inspired look. Dubbed Sting, the case features a custom cut PCB boards pattern all over the body. It looks deadly. If you’re going to build something, make it stand out and have a life of its own. Make it look like it can sting the hell out of you.

Pyramid PC mod built by ancient astronautsOr is it? No one knows for sure. But is man capable of such a feat? How could man have built such a thing using only primitive tools? It may forever remain a mystery. One theory is that the Great Pyramid PC Mod was made by modder polo360x from the Techpowerup forums.

The amazing case was made from a customized Luxor Pyramid case, which itself was made from laser cut aluminum, and is a combination of black and silver aluminum. The base measures 19 by 19 inches and the case stands 25 inches tall. Some specs: CPU: Q6600 B3 OC @ 3.15 GHz (Max stable OC @ 3.4 GHz) – “water cooled”, Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L, RAM: G-Skills 4GB PC2-8000 OC @ 1066 MHz, GPU: 512 MB 8800GT Zotac AMP Editions (700 MHz Core/ 2000 Mhz Memory), HDD: 500 GB Cavier WD 300 SATA, PSU: 500 Watts Rosewill, Cooling: Thermaltake Tide water plus w/ Swiftech apogee GT CPU block.

Wall-E PC casemod is pretty awesome

Wall-E PC casemod is pretty awesomeWho knew that Wall-E ran on Windows XP? That’s how modder Jonathan Berg enviosioned it when he put together this Wall-E PC mod that features a 7-inch touchscreen monitor inside his boxy stomach.

He did a great job with detail, but it’s kinda shocking to see the bot looking so clean and brand new. Wall-E is made from custom cut Plexiglas, the arms from Logitech speakers, and even sports a webcam behind his eyes. Even cooler, he’s even been outfitted with voice recognition software, so his master can command him by voice.

Half-Life 2 PC case mod looks pretty awesome

Posted in Cases by Conner Flynn on January 21st, 2009

Half-Life 2 PC case mod looks pretty awesomeThis Half-Life 2 case mod is a real looker. It was created by “Geno” and was part of the “Beat This” case mod contest. What’s amazing about it, aside from it’s good looks, is that it was constructed in under two weeks… From scratch.

The custom PC is fitted with a water cooling system and three fans to keep the air circulation going and keep everything cool. It’s one of the coolest mods we’ve seen lately. His wife even got in on the action and helped with some of the modding. Which is probably a good thing, because during those two weeks that it took to build, he was also busy getting married and having a honeymoon.

Wolfenstein PC case mod

Wolfenstein PC case modWe love us a good case mod round these parts and the Wolfenstein case mod sure brings back memories. The FuG-01/ET aka the Wolfenstein PC Case Mod. This beauty was inspired by the Wolfenstein 3D video games of course.

It features dual electric gauges, one measures amperage, and the other core voltages. There’s also an old phone handset, which won’t make any calls to HQ, a carrying strap and some bullet holes. Creator “Sheyr” really did a Ben Heck of a job capturing the look and feel of the game.

AMD Phenom PC Case is part TransformerThis is one of the coolest, most awesome, most jawdropping PC case mods we’ve seen in awhile. This AMD Phenom PC Case opens up in almost all directions, and looks a lot like a Transformer. It even features a green lighting scheme. Seriously, this thing looks like it’s about to take flight and fight another robot and fill your home with explosions and flying parts.

It’s got a certain classic Cylon look about it too. Look at the picture. Now look at yours. Yeah, now that you’ve seen it, you know what is missing in your life. It was created by Bill Owen, who is a true genius among men. We are not worthy.

New LG XPION R20, S20 Core 2 Quad desktops

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on November 17th, 2008

New LG XPION R20, S20 Core 2 Quad desktopsLG announced two new premium desktop models that will be released under LG’s XPION brand. The specs that we have so far don’t seem to details so far don’t seem to match the “premium” claim, but maybe we will get more specs soon. One thing is for sure, those sleek cases are sexy as hell.

The XPION R20 features a 2 Core Quad Q8200 processor, with 3GB of RAM and a GeForce 9500GS graphics card. You’ll also get a new cooling system based on Multi Direction Platform Cooling (MDPC), which means it will be pretty quiet. The XPION S20 runs on a 2 Core Quad Q9400 and a GeForce 9600GT graphics card. Details on this one are slim indeed, but it should translate to a wider desktop with better performance then the XPION R20. At least we hope so. Sexy cases aside, we want more info.

Datamancer’s ergonomic Steampunk keyboard

Datamancer’s ergonomic Steampunk keyboardDatamancer has done it again and this one looks like it would be pretty comfortable to use. It’s got the usual brass, wood and classic typewriter keys, along with some other really super details. Like some violet LEDs, an acanthus-leaf pattern etched into the brass, and a soft burgundy wrist pad that is removable for cleaning. It began life as a very rare but plain IBM Model M-15 split ergonomic keyboard, but as you can see, it looks much better now.

AirG: A Wii guitar in the palm of your hand

AirG: A Wii guitar in the palm of your handOne thing that sucks about playing games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero is that the peripherals take up a lot of space in your home. The AirG for the upcoming Wii game PopStar Guitar fits in your hand. (And looks like some preschool toy) Just slip the Wiimote into the AirG case and begin rockng out wirelessly with four fret buttons.

The game will cost about $60 and include two AirGs. The PS2 version of the game uses existing toy guitars to play. It’s available this November and those that live with you will thank you for not bringing another plastic guitar in the house, so they don’t have to go all Pete Townsend and smash it.

Sony unveils 9.9mm thick and 240Hz TVs at CEDIA

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on September 4th, 2008

Sony KDL-52XBR7 TVI have never brought a TV based on how thin it was in profile. Once the set is on my entertainment center, how thick it is really doesn’t matter. I am more about the image quality and screen size. I could see a really thin TV being appealing if it was going to be wall mounted though.

Sony has announced a pair of new 1080p Bravia TVs at CEDIA that will suit those looking for thin and those looking for the best image quality. The Sony KLV-40ZX1M is one of the thinnest sets this side of an OLED screen at only 9.9mm thick. Sony says that is about the thickness of a DVD case. The TV is also very light for a 40-inch TV at only 26 pounds.

Datamancer Archbishop PC case mod

Posted in Cases by Conner Flynn on August 11th, 2008

Datamancer Archbishop PC case modThe Datamancer Archbishop PC case mod is different from most case mods that we’ve seen. It has an entirely overwhelming religious theme. I t’s probably pretty heavy as well since it was made out of stained glass. If you or your Neighbor Ned Flanders should want to buy this Gothic and holy case mod, you can check out the Steampunk art show at the Hamptons Antique Galleries in Bridgehampton, NY between August 16th until August 24th, 2008.

Interestingly, this project was nearly destroyed by a California earthquake, proving that God and the devil really do fight and that anyone building a religious case mod ends up in the middle. I’m guessing it sends you straight to hell if it catches you looking at porn.
