Kid gets rocks in Nintendo DS box

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on April 29th, 2009

Nintendo offers two new DS Lite bundlesJodi Wykle just wanted to get her son a new Nintendo DS for his birthday. Sadly, what he got was a box of rocks. The story goes that the kid opened up his gift only to find bunch of stones and some rolled up Chinese newspaper in place of the popular handheld.

Doesn’t that just suck. Maybe the kid had it coming and it’s the work of Santa, who is sadly a few months behind…Or ahead of schedule. Whatever the case, the mom contacted the local Wal-Mart where she bought the box, but reportedly workers told her it wasn’t their problem and that she should contact Nintendo. Big surprise, Nintendo told her the same thing.

Pantech’s blow-controlled Sky Wind

Pantech’s blow-controlled Sky WindPantech’s latest creation, the Sky Wind, features blow-controls. What this means is that you can huff and puff and interact with your phone. The handset will run on the Emotion Engine developed by Fantalog Interactive. Blow controls include the ability to switch wallpapers, adjust the brightness level and even take a photo.

Hell, you can probably literally blow somebody off if you get a call you don’t want. Obviously this is pretty much a novelty. I mean it can’t be nearly as useful as the iPhone’s accelerometer for instance. The Pantech Sky Wind will be available this February. No word on price yet, but we think it blows.

Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator: Original GPS

Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator: Original GPS
In the days before satellites frantically transmitted data to GPS receivers, there was at least one similar device making the rounds in London during the 20s. The Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator had put maps squarely onto users’ wrists. It works the way it appears, basically using rolled up paper maps that show the route of a particular area.

The driver just had to turn the two knobs, which turn the rollers, thereby moving the paper maps. This Wristlet can actually store about twenty maps making it a pretty comprehensive navigation tool…For the time. To see the Plus Four Wristlet Route Indicator, you can check it out at the National Trust House where it is on display until June 1st.

Super Nintendo papercraft is ultra portable

Super Nintendo papercraft is ultra portable
We told you about the tiny Nintendo DS back in February. If that didn’t combine paper and Nintendo to your satisfaction, then how about making your own tiny Super Nintendo?

This Super Nintendo can fit in the palm of your hand so it is very portable. It was created by Chilean papercrafter ryo007, and the tiny SNES even includes a pair of even smaller controllers AND a set of game cartridges. If you want to try your hand at making one, ryo has provided the cut-out diagrams on DeviantArt. Excellent work. I like that one of the cartridges is Super Mario All-Stars.

Smallest paper Nintendo DS even has tiny game

Posted in Designs by Darrin Olson on February 3rd, 2008

Tiny Nintendo DS Lite design made out of paperSomeone with a combined love of Nintendo’s DS and craft projects created with paper, not to mention some skills, has created what we believe to be the smallest replica of the Nintendo DS Lite. The little DS measures just 1.4 inches at its longest point and SonicScape Jun, the creator, even took the time to make a Nintendodgos game cartridge that actually fits in. The top also opens to reveal the double screens via a toothpick powered hinge.

From looking at the photos it appears that some incredible attention to detail and time was taken to make this little DS lite, but the maker of this paper design created a DIY video showing how you can make your own inside of 90 minutes with just scissors, pen knife, glue and this template. We’re thinking there is also an undisclosed prerequisite of skill that would significantly increase this time for most of us.

Sony unveils second generation ebook Reader

Posted in Sony, ebooks by Nino Marchetti on October 2nd, 2007

Sony Reader PRS-505Sony has apparently made enough sales with its ebook Reader to justify creating a second generation version. The new Sony Reader PRS-505, priced at around $300, should be available this month.

Sony says the PRS-505 has a “svelte” body design and is available in silver or dark blue body colors. The controls have been reportedly re-styled to better copy page turns. Also apparently new to this model is a new electronic paper display for faster viewing time and better gray scale for enhanced viewing. It can mimic as well a USB mass storage device and offers space to store up to 160 typical ebooks.
