VUDU brings Pandora, Picasa and Flickr to connected HDTVs, more apps coming soon |
Wait. I thought HDTVs were all about watching actual TV. Well, VUDU thinks it’s all about apps and they may be right. VUDU has today made both Picasa and Flickr access possible through LG and Mitsubishi sets with integrated VUDU software.
Yes, this was already available to those of you relying on one of VUDU’s set-top boxes, but some of us like to have everything within the display itself. Pandora streaming is also available on VUDU-fied Mitsubishi panels, but LG has “requested that only free TV and games be available on their devices.”


Word is that Google is planning to launch a music service and according to sources quoted by TechCrunch, the company is securing content from major labels right now. One source calls the service “Google Audio”.
HP’s new DreamScreen 100 and 130 aren’t your usual digital picture frames, but they will function in pretty much the same way. They also happen to stream photos, music, play videos, connect to Pandora, and manage to handle social networking too.

Onkyo has unveiled a new home AV receiver that means business. It’s the company’s first that includes Pandora, Rhapsody, and Sirius streaming internet radio support. The Onyko TX-NR807 supports DLNA 1.5 media streaming, for playback of media stored on networked computers and drives, along with six HDMI ports, Faroudja DCDi Cinema 1080p upscaling and both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
Samsung’s latest Blu-ray Home Theater In a Box is a nice all-in-one solution.The HT-BD3252 supports all of the latest HD audio codecs like TrueHD and DTS-HD, and a mic for automatic calibration. It features an integrated Blu-ray player, which supports BD-Live.
Bose just launched the SoundLink wireless speaker system. It’s the company’s first dedicated network audio streaming package for both PC and Mac. This is great for those who want to set up a hassle-free wireless music system without worrying about Wi-Fi configurations.
We’re used to seeing free DVD or Blu-ray players with an HDTV purchase, but Mitsubishi is trying a new approach. Beginning July 16th, authorized retailers will give you a free Vudu box and $50 service credit with every Mitsubishi TV.

This morning Pandora released its long awaited radio streaming application for BlackBerry. The guys at The BoyGenius Report tested it on a Bold via AT&T. According to them, “it’s everything we’ve been waiting for”.
