Nokia 6700 Slide and 7230Nokia just announced 2 new budget sliders with an emphasis on media sharing and pretty colors. The Nokia 6700 Slide and the Nokia 7230. These newbs are priced about $239 and $150 respectively.

The 6700 Slide features a 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss optic camera with onboard editing software and the 7230 sports a 3.2 megapixel camera. Both of these phones will be available in a variety of catchy colors.

Nokia 5330 Mobile TV EditionNokia has announced the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition, a mobile handset that focuses on mobile broadcast TV (DVB-H), social networking, music and gaming all in one compact 3G slider. This handset is all about offering users a convenient way to access TV while on the run. It features a 2.4-inch QVGA color display and a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use a set of superior headphones if you like.

Some other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and One-click access to live broadcasts. The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition will pick up all the available channels and set reminders for your favorite shows and even create personal channel lists with Nokia’s Electronic Program Guide (EPG). The battery life allows users to watch three football games or six episodes of a soap opera for example before recharging.

These more expensive devices are selling and smartphones are actually growing in popularity. The latest numbers for the mobile phone market are in and Apple is tops when it comes to profits.

According to Strategy Analytics Apple has posted $1.6 billion in operating profits for Q3 2009. The second place manufacturer is Nokia with $1.1 billion in operating profits. The impressive part here is that Apple is doing this with one or two models while Nokia has a full line of devices.

T-Mobile offers up Nokia 3711 budget phoneT-Mobile has your back in this economy and hey, they didn’t get a bailout either. The company is offering a simple, yet fugly looking 3711 clamshell from Nokia. iPhones laugh at it. Long and hard. Then complain that they can’t breath.

As far as features, it sports a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio, microSD card expansion and a QVGA display. Also GPS, which gives it some cred. If you get an Even More contract, you’ll be able to pick it up for $70. With the Even More Plus plan, it’ll cost you $160.

Nokia N900 now shipping

Nokia N900 now shippingNokia’s N900 is now shipping. According to Nokia CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the handset is now shipping to at least some pre-order customers. Very soon we will find out if this new generation of Nokia smartphones will generate the kind of appeal that Nokia needs at the top end of its product line or if it’s just a wobbly new platform.

According to Nokia’s official blog the device will hit “Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America” shortly. It won’t be compatible with the new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria until a software update later this year.

Nokia issues recall on 14M mobile phone chargers

The last time Nokia issued a recall on something it was for batteries that posed a fire hazard. Today Nokia has issued a recall on about 14 million mobile phone chargers. The chargers pose a shock hazard to users.

Nokia points out that it did not build the chargers, they were built by a third-party Chinese maker. That maker is paying all the costs associated with the recall. The recall covers chargers model number AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009; and the AC-4U model, manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.

Nokia releases five new affordable phonesNokia knows that this economy is tough on your wallet and so they have released five new affordable phones. These phones include the Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616, Nokia 1800, Nokia 2220 and the Nokia 2690. Sure they aren’t much to look at, but we are talking affordable here.

Each of these models has features that include anything from FM to a flashlight to dust-resistance to amazing battery life, so there’s something hee for everyone. All should be available by the first half of 2010.

Nokia Storyplay wooden e-reader for kidsWe adults have the Kindle and the Nook, along with other e-readers. But what about the kids? It’s the kids who we want to get reading. Nokia is at least thinking about the children.

The Storyplay e-reader is a new take on storytelling and reading. It will feature Elmo from Sesame Street on a removable paper book that’s attached with magnets. The reader has two screens. One will display Elmo and his antics, while the second screen will display a live video screen. (Displaying what?)

Nokia N920 shows itselfThe Nokia N900 might have just been released, but hot on its heels is its successor, the Nokia N920 Internet Tablet. It showed up at the Nokiaport.de forums.

The photo appears to be real and we know that the device will feature a 4.13″ capacitive touchscreen display in a thin body. And yes, no sign of a physical keyboard. We don’t have any info on its release date, but don’t expect it for awhile. We will likely see it at Mobile World Congress 2010.

Nokia gets official with Booklet 3G specs and pricing

nokiabooklet3g-sbNokia went official with the specs and pricing for its first netbook today called the Booklet 3G. We already heard lots of rumors that Best Buy would be the exclusive seller of the device, and that has been confirmed.

The Booklet 3G will also use AT&T’s 3G network as the exclusive data carrier. The netbook will be available for $299.99 with a new 2-year data plan agreement. If you just want the netbook, it will sell for $599.

TattooMyHTC launched for the HTC TattooHTC has now launched its TattooMyHTC service that allows customers to customize their HTC Tattoo smartphone starting at €11.99. It’s the first Android smartphone from HTC with removable covers (remember Nokia faceplates?).

A pre-made design will start at €11.99 but if you want to use your own design you will have to add another €3. You can make it however you like it. TattooMyHTC is available only for the HTC Tattoo, but more devices might be added later if HTC makes new handsets with changeable covers.

Some of the handsets were higher end devices and others like the Nokia 2705 Shade are cheaper handsets for users who want nice features, but don’t want to spend a lot.

The key features of the phone are that it has Xpress-on covers for color customization, it is VZ Navigator capable and has a large display on one of the smallest devices Verizon offers. The phone can also store up to 1000 contacts.
