It’s that time again. Greenpeace has released their new Guide to Greener Electronics. Compared to last year, there are many changes. Some you might expect, some you may not have foreseen.

Some manufacturers went up on the scale, while others went down. Nokia is the standout at the top, right at the 7 out of 10 mark, but poor Nintendo… The Big N is once again stuck at 1 out of 10. How did Apple fare? They fail once again and drop to the 14th position out of 18 companies.

Opera on Tuesday has announced the final release of the latest and greatest version of its mobile browser, Opera Mini 4.2. We saw the 4.2 version go into beta release only earlier this month sporting some new features including skins, additional servers and faster performance, video and Notes sync.

The final v4.2 release that we downloaded today appears to be very similar, if not exactly the same, as the beta version we got a couple of weeks ago. Opera boasts increased speed of as much as 30 percent, support for multiple languages, the ability to skin the browser to match your preference and of course the ability to play mobile-targeted YouTube videos (provided you have a newer Sony Ericsson or Nokia phone, for now). Users can also sync up notes between the mobile browser and the Opera desktop browser with Opera Link.

You might expect the second Android cellphone to come from Motorola or Nokia, but according to John Biggs over at Crunchgear, it’s the Zzzphone, a full-QWERTY keyboard Chinese slider which apparently runs the Android operating system. It’s tauted as the world’s first unlocked quad-band mobile featuring the Google Android Operating System.

It seems to do everything you could ever want it to do as well. It works everywhere in the world and can be built and personalized per your custom requirements with GPS, Wi-Fi, even your choice of seven colors for cases, and 15 other options. Up to 32GB of memory, they are also claiming to be the world’s first phone with snap on modular accessories, like a full QWERTY keyboard, mini boom box, projector and more. Damn. John says that he has ordered one and it should be arriving in ten days. It’s only $119.

The website makes your dream come true by allowing customers to design or customize their handset before ordering online. Unleash your inner Karate master with the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition. Yes, it comes with a Bruce Lee doll. It’s awesome yes and no doubt when you use the phone, it makes your voice all out of synch with your mouth like any good karate flick, but sadly it is exclusive to Hong Kong. Expensive too at about $1,286 US bucks, but we’re still tempted. Hopefully we see more phone/doll bundles in the near future. Maybe Chuck Norris and that wandering Kung Fu dude.

We didn’t see this one coming. Boy Genius has uncovered some pics and specs on a new Nokia flip that’s destined for AT&T. It’s super secret codename? “Wahoo”. Damn they’re creative. This quad-band clamshell has an interesting half-QWERTY keypad, internal 2.2-inch QVGA display, 1.36-inch external unit, push-to-talk, microSD expansion, and A2DP support. It sports a form-factor that’s similar to the BlackBerry Pearl Flip. Nothing on a release date. Wa-freakin-hoo.

If you’ve been drooling over the Nokia E71 but want something a bit more affordable, here’s the recently released E63. It looks like the E71 and also has most of the business functionality. Some specs include: Full QWERTY keyboard, Touch sensitive Navi wheel, 3.5mm audio jack, 2.36″ 16 million colors QVGA display, 110MB internal memory, microSD memory card slot, Quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and a 2 megapixel camera. The price is $250. No GPS, but for that price you get plenty of other great features.

Opera has a beta version of the latest Opera Mini browser for mobile devices, boasting some cool new features for on the go, and faster connections for those in the Americas. For starters, Opera Mini 4.2 beta has brought back the skinning features from version 3, allowing a little customization to look of the browser. Users of the newest version of this browser who also have select phones such as a new Sony Ericsson or Nokia might also have some luck getting YouTube to run on it as well.

The new 4.2 browser will also make use of the new servers available in the U.S., making browsing faster for those in the Americas and Asia-Pacific areas. Opera says this will make things faster for those in other parts of the world as well since the new servers will off-load some work from the existing servers. Opera 4.2 also has a feature to sync your notes to your Opera Desktop with Opera Link.

When you think Nokia, you think cellphones. But now the cell phone maker is getting into the bench biz. Nokia is setting up musical benches throughout the United Kingdom, in ‘secret locations’, in order to promote their Comes With Music audio service. Each bench will feature three integrated handsets with headphones so passers-by can sample music.

Apparently the track lists will mirror the region where the bench is deployed, so you would get the Beatles in Liverpool and say Black Sabbath in Birmingham. You probably already want to steal the bench since it’s neat and all. You can’t. Each will be under close supervision by a security guard and a “performer”.

Found in textlad’s Flickr pool, with the copy reading: “The first Nokia eight mega pixel phone? I guess we’ll have to wait some time for that… Only a concept made of wood from sustainable forests at this stage but fun anyway.”

Apparently Nokia themselves designed and created this object of Ewok desire. It’s an 8-megapixel “handset” that appears to actually work. Are they up to something? Only the creatures of the forest know for sure. Obviously we won’t be seeing it available anytime soon. Though it would be cool to use, what with it’s old-timey look and all.

Nokia’s sexy 5800 XpressMusic is official. If you’ve been waiting, and I know you have, the phone will be shipping this quarter, available in black, red or blue, and will cost an affordable $392 unlocked, with an 8GB memory card. It will be powered by the S60 5th Edition operating system. Some features include a 3.2-inch 640 x 360 touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Dual LED flash, GPS, and Wi-Fi. It’s all set to go up against the iPhone.

The Nokia 3500 is now available in pink from Fido, even though it doesn’t look all that pink. Not really that big of a deal. The pink is limited to the direction pad and keypad which light up. The pinkified Nokia 3500 will cost the same as the regular version of the 3500: $15 a month with a 3-year contract, $90 for a 2-year contract, $100 standalone phone. Probably a good phone for those girls who want to be all Sex in the City.

It features a 2 megapixel camera, music player and built-in FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, tri-band GSM support and a microSD memory card slot. Also has Handsfree speaker, Voice commands, calendar, to-do list, notes, countdown timer, stopwatch and calculator. Just a bit of pink. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Forget about your sleek iPhones and your Samsungs and Nokias. Here’s a phone you can rock like it’s 1899. This steampunk phone is a prototype by Arthur Schmitt, a modern day Londoner, not a Londoner from Victorian times.

It sports a wire cover over the earpiece, period gauges, visible screws, a spinning number-counter and more. Perhaps the coolest detail is that it uses punch cards and binary phone numbers to control the phone’s features and make calls. Now that’s progress that makes phonebooks look like rolodex’s. “Can you hear me through me amazingly thick mustache now?”

This is one of a small fleet of GPS and cameraphone equipped bicycles that Flickr has deployed in select cities around the world. It’s purple, solar powered, pedal powered, GPS powered and it probably needs a little basket with a bow to complete the girl’s bike look. The bikes have handlebar-mounted cameraphones (Nokia N95s, based on the metadata in the Flickr photos) that will snap a shot every 60 seconds while the bike is in motion. Then the photos get uploaded with the geodata, to a special Flickr account.

I have no idea what the purpose is, other then publicity. I suppose they could partner with Nokia etc and start selling these bikes. They are likely to be a nice collectible in a few years, so if you have one keep it safe. And try not to get into too much trouble snapping pics of drug dealers and uploading them.

Meet the Nokia BMW Video Phone. Take one look and it’s obviously the BMW of cellphones right? A thing of beauty. It’s what you get when you combine the ultimate driving machine with the ultimate video mobile phone.

The Nokia BMW mobile phone has an interesting standout feature called “push to open” which is a mechanism that rotates 90 degrees. Push the button and your phone is a handy-cam. We’re thinking they should get on this one real quick, but experience tells us that they’ll take their own sweet time and let someone else beat them to it. Someone like Sony for instance.
