Retro Duo NES & SNES emulator
Some of us have an obsession with Classic Nintendo games, more specifically the NES and SNES systems. But a lot of nerds gamers don’t like to use their actual precious cartridges since they reside in a shrine somewhere in their mother’s closet. If that’s the case, this will do the trick.

It is both a NES and SNES emulator in one butt ugly console, that will play most titles and Super Famicom games. Plus it’s compatible with the original SNES controllers. Features standard AV RCA sockets,S-Video, and Famicom cartridges will work without adaptors. They’re working on original NES controllers and a light gun to work, too. It will cost you $45.99.

Wii 2010: A blue haired odyssey

Wii 2010: A Blue Haired Odyssey
T3 Magazine commissioned some future designs for their “future tech” feature. Here’s a Wii concept for 2010, which is right around the corner. Apparently blue hair is all the rage in the future. And I’m guessing that her bra has bluetooth to control some game by pure boob boucing and nipple position.

It should be noted that in 2010 brainwaves are used to control characters with some head gear, which also sports in-ear headphones. It’s nice to see the Wiimote all thin and streamlined, with just one button too. I’m looking forward to blue haired girl gamers gripping my Wiimote in 2010. Thank you Nintendo. Thank you future.

Nintendo is “working on a solution” to Wii storage

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 18th, 2008

Nintendo is “working on a solution” to Wii storageWe’ve seen the writing on the wall and it seems to indicate that Nintendo is working on some USB devices for the Wii, but Laurent Fischer of Nintendo Europe quashed that idea while another option now seems open. According to GamesIndustry.biz, he says that the company is “working on a solution” to the Wii storage problem, but he also says “definitely there’s no plan to issue hardware,” like a hard drive.

So the thinking now is that Nintendo is working on a firmware update that would allow downloaded games to be played directly from SD cards, but no one knows for sure. We may get more details as E3 approaches.

Metroid
The Wii has changed the face of gaming with it’s interactive motion controls. So much so, that every other console has begun work on their own version. Just as the Wii has changed gaming, gamers are constantly changing the Wii console itself, giving it all kinds of personalities. Here’s a look at some of our favorites.

Xbox 360′s “avatars” aka Microsoft Miis

Xbox 360’s “avatars” aka Microsoft Miis
We first told you about Microsoft’s plans at Wii emulation back in April. Here’s some new info on their own version of Nintendo’s Miis. Xbox 360 Fanboy found the above Flash document on Intellisponse’s servers. (an online research and web-survey platform)

Is it just for survey purposes or not? I’m thinking it’s beyond the survey stage as it fits with what we’ve been hearing. That Microsoft will be rolling their Miis out by the end of the year, hopefully with their own Wii-mote that has all the bugs worked out.

Nintendo again dominates sales, Wii shortage ensues

Posted in News by Darrin Olson on June 13th, 2008

Nintendo dominates game console sales in May 2008 with Wii and DSAccording to the latest NPD Group report for game sales in May, this is the fourth month in a row that Nintendo has come out on top for the number 1 AND number two spot for console sales. The Nintendo Wii and the handheld Nintendo DS were the two top-selling hardware units for May, 2008.

Nintendo sold over 675,000 Wii consoles in May and almost 453,000 Nintendo DS’s, which would probably explain all the new colors and designs they have been coming out with lately for the DS. Sony’s Playstation 3 followed with a little under 209,000 units sold and Microsoft sold 186,600 Xbox 360 units during the same period.

Nintendo Wii USB devices coming soon?

Nintendo Wii USB devices coming soon?
You find some interesting things when browsing the web. One interesting Wii related tidbit that some browsers came across is a job listing at Nintendo of America. One that suggests that Nintendo might finally be ready to up the USB support for the Wii.

The job search was for a “Software and Hardware Tester” which isn’t unusual, but they’re looking for one who can put in place a “test plan for Wii’s USB devices.” Some are thinking that this could mean external USB storage devices like hard drives and flash drives, since the Wii is severely lacking in that department. It might mean a more complete USB compatibility, with other devices as well. It would be nice to use something other then the 1 or 2 keyboards that currently work.

Holy Triforce: SNES Zelda mod is awesome

Holy Triforce: SNES Zelda mod is awesome
As far as I can tell from this guy’s French converted into my bad english, he was inspired by the Japanese version of the console. And of course, inspired by the Zelda games. Notice the beautiful blue light coming out from beneath making it look like it’s on some alien pedestool, the nicely rounded edges of the case and Link’s sword, yes Link’s sword sticking out of the case like Excalibur.

The creator also gave it a super slick mirror-like finish. I have to say, all that shiny Zelda green and gold makes for a dramatic effect. That my friends is a job well done. It belongs in a Nintendo museum somewhere.

Rock on brotha! Toys ‘R’ Us gave us a first glimpse at the latest way to be a rock god on the go. It’s priced at $179.99 and the limited edition Nintendo DS Guitar Hero Bundle includes the game, Guitar Grip, and a two-toned silver & black DS Lite with Guitar Hero logo. (You know, so that even when your DS is not in use, you’re branded and can spot other wannabes)

It will be available on June 29. Chalk up yet another variation on Nintendo’s handheld. Did someone go a little approval crazy regarding colors and themes this season, or are they themselves too busy rocking out?

Girl doing hula hoop on with the Nintendo WiiTheir are several advantages to owning a Wii. Especially if you have a cute girlfriend. It can be fun for her and fun for you as made very clear in this video where there’s a whole lotta booty shakin going on.
For those of you who have no girlfriend…You might want to put your Wiimote down for a few hours each day. When you find one,(Hopefully Chloroform isn’t involved) bring her back to your place and have her play some Wii.

Sony creates their own Wiimote?

Sony creates their own Wiimote?
The rumor reads like a scene from the gaming X-Files. Supposedly, a small group of PS3 owners were taken to a secret location in California where they got their chance to test a new Sony item. Not something made from alien technology, but a PS3 remote that mimics the Nintendo Wiimote.

Participants apparently enjoyed minigames like tennis, fencing and paintball. One source says one of the gamers spotted a “PS3 Fit” and was immediately mind wiped and carted away. Ok, I made that last bit up, but the rest is true. We think. The players also got to see some Quake on a laptop while using the device. Apparently, Sony has a long way to go before all the bugs are worked out

McDonalds lets you order with your phone
In what surely has to be a perfect collaboration between McDonalds and Nintendo, McDonalds is making it easier then ever to order food that will have you working twice as hard on the Wii-Fit. hmmm. Then you’ll get hungry again. Let’s see, who makes it easiest to get a disc shaped hunk of grease on a sesame seed bun? And the circle is complete, my friends. McDonald’s will introduce a new system that’s currently testing in Japan.

It’s a payment application that’s downloaded into your phone and when you place your phone over an RFID reader, you can pay instantly or use coupons and the like.

DS Paint app for Nintendo DS

DS Paint app for Nintendo DS
If you’re looking to use your DS as a sketchbook or drawing pad, here is a DS paint application that turns your system into one. It’s called colors. All you need are a DS-compatible flash cartridge and a microSD card. It’s a pretty basic program, not even having layers or an undo option yet, but it’s still a pretty impressive app.

More features will be on the way soon, such as DS-to-DS painting that will allow collaboration. You can use a full-size stylus if the DS stylus isn’t doing it for you, and also export projects using Wi-Fi or microSD. Looks like you can create some real masterpieces. Check out a video below.

Poptherapy: The week in geek newsWell, it’s Friday. Another week has come and gone. As usual we’ve covered a fair amount of geek related freakiness at Poptherapy. Below you’ll find a small sampling of what we’ve been up to this week, none of it good for society in general, but an awesome way to waste time.

How about using a large digging machine to undress a pretty woman? Kinda like using a back-hoe to undress a real ho.(I kid…I kid. She was a very nice lady.) What about a half-baked smurf? If it’s gaming and apparel you’re interested in

Blazepro Offers Realistic Wii racing wheel

Blazepro Offers Realistic Wii racing wheel
I haven’t picked up my copy of Mario Kart yet, but I imagine this new Wii wheel from Blazepro will make it a more realistic and far cooler experience. It’s got to be better then that rinky-dink wheel they are packaging with the game.

This new wheel promises better driving accuracy. The base can be attached to any desktop for more stability, too. If you still like playing it the other way, you can detach the wheel for more freedom. Available for only $5.87.
