Blaze 3-in-1 selector: Switch between Nintendo DS Lite gamesChances are that if you have ADD, you probably also play video games. You probably just don’t sit with any game for very long. Well here’s a new toy for you. This little device will alow you to quickly flip between your favorite games on your Nintendo DS Lite. You can choose from 3 different games with just the flick of a switch.

The BLAZE 3-in-1 game selector features three cartridge bays, and a single ribbon connector that plugs into your DS’ cartridge slot. It adds bulk to your DS Lite, but the trade off is that you can choose from multiple games without having to carry around an additional case. EA announces N-Strike 2 Nerf game for Wii

Posted in EA by Shane McGlaun on July 9th, 2009

nerfnstrike2-sbLast Christmas my son really wanted the Nerf game for the Nintendo Wii from Santa. The game was a cool kid friendly shooter that also could be used with a special Nerf blaster that could hold a Wii remote and shoot real darts. The catch was that the game and the blaster were sold separately.

EA has announced the follow up to the game, which will ship this fall and will be called Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite. The game will ship with a special Nerf Switch Shot EX-3 blaster that features a special red decoder eyepiece that flips up.

Nintendo DS/Sony PSP arcade cabinet throws portability out the window

Nintendo DS/Sony PSP arcade cabinet throws portability out the windowDid I miss something? I must have because I thought the whole idea of having portables was to, well have portability. You know, devices where you give up some graphics for the ability to play anywhere. So why would anyone want to make an arcade cabinet that plays DS/PSP games?

Just because they can. And I guess that’s good enough reason for any crazy mod. I may not understand why, but I gotta hand it to them, it’s unique. Check out a video below while I scratch and shake my head.

Nintendo DS glucose reader for kids with diabetes

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2009

Nintendo DS glucose reader for kids with diabetesOnce in a while something truly useful surfaces for the Nintendo DS. This is a blood glucose meter plugs into the DS / DS Lite’s Slot-2. Consistent glucose testing by the diabetic child (or adult?) is rewarded with points in a game that can be used to buy items or unlock levels. Sadly the new DSi doesn’t have a Slot-2, so those kids will be left out.

Bayer’s DIDGET meter was developed in conjunction with Paul Wessel, the parent of a child with type 1 diabetes. Paul noticed that his son was constantly losing his blood glucose meter, but he always knew where to find his Nintendo Game Boy. That inspired Paul and Bayer to work together to develop the first and only blood glucose meter that connects to the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite.

Ti-boy: Ti-84 calculator Game Boy emulator

Posted in Calculators by Conner Flynn on July 1st, 2009

Ti-boy: Ti-84 calculator Game Boy emulatorAre you a fan of Texas Instruments’ graphing calculators? Well, now the TI-83+SE, TI-84+ and TI-84+SE calculators can do more than make calculations. Now they can play Nintendo Game Boy games thanks to Brendan Fletcher’s emulator known as TI-Boy SE.

It runs on TI’s Z-80 based graphing calculators thanks to similarities between the CPUs of the two systems. The emulator includes three zoom modes, two sprite tracking modes, grayscale or black-and-white palettes, two-channel sound and even the ability to save and load games. For now, only Tetris, Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Kirby and homebrew titles are supported, but I’m sure it will get better.

Nintendo DS Chocolate Case

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on June 30th, 2009

Nintendo DS Chocolate CaseI like sweets just as much as the next guy, but if you have a case for your DS that makes it look like a chocolate bar, you may have a bit of a candy problem. At least it looks better than the Chocolate iPhone case. And it melts on your portable, not in your hands.

Well, if you are crazy for chocolate, you might as well lay down $10 on the NDS Lite Chocolate Case from gadget4all.com, but it will only make you hungry, so in the end you and your DS will be fatter as a result.

Venus JXD300 PSP-2000 CloneWe’ve seen our share of fake Chinese knock-offs. Sometimes they are a good laugh, sometimes they’re fascinating, but mostly they’re just stupid rip-offs. This one resembles a PSP-2000 and is called the Venus JXD300.

It can only play Nintendo Gameboy Advance (GBA) and NES games. It will also play a bunch of popular media formats like RMVB, RM, AVI, MPG, FLV and even Video-CD (VCD) files.

Sony designing Phone/PSP hybrid to compete against iPhone?

Posted in PSP Phone by Conner Flynn on June 28th, 2009

Sony designing Phone/PSP hybrid to compete against iPhone?Reuters reports that Sony is putting a team together, maybe as soon as next month, to build a combination PSP/Sony Ericsson handset. It makes sense. They have to look out for both Nintendo and the iPhone threat. But don’t get too excited just yet.

Even if Sony is getting started on this, chances are we won’t see any results for a while. Sony declined to comment, which doesn’t mean anything and this sort of rumor goes way back. Don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Officially licensed Star Wars lightsaber and blaster accessories for the Wii

Officially licensed Star Wars lightsaber and blaster accessories for the WiiWe know that you like to get all nerdy with your Wii on occasion and swing around a lightsaber while your little dog looks on in his Princess Leia slave costume. Well, if you’re going to nerd out, you may as well do it with officially licensed Wii accessories.

We’ve seen our share of Wii lightsabers, but they just aren’t endorsed by Lucas’ money machine. This one is. This lightsaber glows, and Bensussen Deutsch & Associates have plans for a matching blaster too. The accessories don’t make room for MotionPlus, but so what. They’ll be shipping with Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, a game that doesn’t support MotionPlus.

CinemaNow launches Wii movie streaming service in Japan

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 25th, 2009

wii-sb1CinemaNow has announced that it’s partnering with Fujisoft to deliver movies to the Nintendo Wii. The service will initially launch in Japan, where the Japanese will be able to watch catalog titles from Paramount Pictures. The service is called “Minna no Theater Wii” over there.

Will we see this hot in the states? We hope so. But you never know. I’d rather watch movies on a higher quality console myself, but to each their own.

Use Sony’s DualShock on your Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 25th, 2009

Use Sony's DualShock on the Nintendo WiiI’ve always thought that turning the Wiimote sideways looked a little strange, but it’s been the only alternative to using one of Nintendo’s old controllers. Well, not anymore. Now you can use your old PS/PS2 controllers thanks to this DualShock to Wii adapter which costs $18.50.

No one will think it’s weird at all, watching you play the Wii with a Sony controller. Maybe you don’t like the GameCube controller, or the Club Nintendo SNES controller. We aren’t judging you. We just want you to be happy.

Conny Q3 sports game console: A pink, round Wii knockoff

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on June 23rd, 2009

Conny Q3 sports game console: A pink, round Wii knockoffThis oddly-shaped pink gadget is the Conny Q3 Sports, a video game console from where else? China. It’s designed to play like the Nintendo Wii, just cheaper and crappier. The Q3 Sports sells for just $99 and includes 5 games. That’s gotta keep you entertained for at least 15 minutes. Plus it looks like a Wii designed by a female razor company.

The Conny Q3 includes a wireless 3D motion-sensing controller, but it isn’t as powerful as their Wii competitor. Mostly because it plays ONLY those 5 games. Nothing else. I hope you like “Hot Dance”, fishing, bowling, golf or tennis. Excuse me, “tennies”.

Details on PS3′s Motion Controller

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 22nd, 2009

Details on PS3's Motion ControllerAccording to Kotaku, Sony is touching base with developers and apparently the controller will launch in Spring 2010 (Next year’s E3 sounds right.) . Sony says that the controller will function “with any games across all genres from casual to [hard]core”.

To refresh your memory, the controller will work with Sony’s Eye camera and microphone, which will add face and voice recognition and make the motion tracking more accurate. Sony apparently told developers that the DualShock “could” be used along with the motion controller, much like how Nintendo uses the Wiimote and Nunchuck.

Black Wii, blue controllers spotted at World Hobby Fair

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on June 22nd, 2009

Black Wii, blue controllers spotted at World Hobby FairAt this weekend’s World Hobby Fair, Nintendo had the blue Wiimote and Nunchuk on display, to promote Wii Sports Resort. They also were showing off that Black Wii we told you about earlier this month.

The Nunchuk has always been shiny on top and matte on bottom, but it’s much more noticeable, in a good way, on the black version. Even the fugly Wiimote jacket looks cool in matte black. The Classic Controller Pro looks downright awesome in shiny black plastic. This Wii items make the console look much more serious.
