nVidia Tegra to be in the next Nintendo handheld?

Posted in NVIDIA by Conner Flynn on October 14th, 2009

Nintendo announces three new colors for DSiWord is that NVIDIA has won a contract with Nintendo for an upcoming handheld game console. Some are describing it as the “successor of the DS/DSi”. Speculation is that the new device would be available around 2010. If true, would this be the current Tegra? Or the next-generation Tegra?

The DSi isn’t that old, so I’m wondering if we are really talking about the next Wii here. Even if it is for a handheld, this would certainly give a nVidia a foot in the door for the next Wii. It’s just rumor for now, but interesting.

nerfswitchshotex3-sgI am a big fan of NERF Blasters and we have a bunch of them around our house. You never know when you might walk around a corner and take a NERF dart to the head. PDP unveiled a new NERF Switch Shot EX-3 blaster today that also works with the Nintendo Wii.

PDP says the device is Nintendo licensed and can be used in three ways. First, it will shoot a pair of darts that store under the barrel waiting to be used. The device also has a Red Reveal used to play the NERF N-Strike Elite game from EA.

Darth Vader Wii Sensor Bar holder

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 29th, 2009

Darth Vader Wii Sensor Bar holderJust when you think that you’ve seen it all with the Wii, some Wii accessories can still surprise you. The $50 Darth Vader Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar Holder is just what it sounds like. It holds your sensor bar and makes it look like a lightsaber. Sorta.

So while you are swinging that Wiimote, you can imagine Vader encouraging you to use the force and join the darkside. You of course will shout NEVERRRRR and all of your friends will get scared and leave. It’s not your fault Vader only speaks to you and that no one else can hear him.

Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat for the Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on September 27th, 2009

Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat for the Nintendo WiiYou know what the Wii has been missing? The good old old Louisville Slugger. Makes sense when you think about it. Louisville Sluggers are for more than just baseball. I’m thinking a Wii home invasion title, where you wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of a robber. You could get points for different weapon choices. The good old old baseball bat is a favorite of home defense.

Then there’s all of the fighting games where you use a bat. Well, now you’ll be swinging a real one. Well, not real, but better than a plain wiimote. The Force Unleashed is a whole new game when wielding a bat.

Nintendo goes official with new $199 price for Wii

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on September 24th, 2009

wii-sbPretty much everyone has heard by now that the Nintendo Wii is getting a price cut to $199. The cut has been reported as confirmed; but that confirmation was from a third party, not directly from Nintendo.

Nintendo has now gone officially official with the new price cut, which is set to go into effect on Sunday September 27. That is the day that we were expecting the price cut to hit on. I wonder if Nintendo rushed the official announcement out because so many leaks of the new price had been made.

PS3 Slim sells 1M units in 3 weeks

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on September 24th, 2009

ps3slim250I think most gamers knew that when the PS3 Slim was unveiled at the $299 price point that the other console makers would have to cut prices to compete. Microsoft shortly after matched the $299 price and Nintendo has now gone official with a new $199 price of the Wii.

If you have any doubts that the new price would mean robust sales for the PS3 Slim, let them go now. Sony announced that since the price cut went into effect three weeks ago the PS3 Slim has now sold 1 million units worldwide.

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?The Wii has some good titles, but I can’t say that it has many great titles. And playing in 480p has been disappointing. And where have the good games been lately? It makes sense to wonder if the big N has a console refresh coming soon.

Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix seems to think that there’s a new Wii coming. He also predicts that Microsoft and Sony’s motion efforts won’t be “truly successful.”

According to Wada, the next-generation HD Wii will have the same capabilities as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and this new Wii will also add a new motion controller. Sadly we have to wait until 2011, like previous rumors have stated.

Wii Football accessory is real

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2009

Wii Football accessory is realNow when you throw your Wiimote at the TV, you can do so in style. This plastic football accessory might even make Madden sell better on the Wii. It comes from CTA Digital, the company behind the Wii bowling ball and iPhone steering wheel. They are no strangers to weird accessories.

This Football for your Wii opens up to hold your Wiimote and the face buttons of your controller are on top of the football. It’s compatible with Madden 10, Madden 09 All-Play, NCAA Football 09 All-Play, and several other football games.
