Nintendo Files Trademark For Zii

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2009

wii-sbNintendo has filed Trademark for the name Zii. Huge mistake for such a large company since Creative already owns it. Could be they want to call the next Wii, the Zii, but Creative might disagree.

The trademark recently popped up on the Japanese trademark database. The filing covers video games and electronic devices, but contains little information. Our guess is that it might be the HD Wii that we’ve heard rumors about. Hopefully more info will come soon.

Sony’s Playstation 3 came close to the big N with 440,000 units sold during the corresponding period. Microsoft says that their sales were the best yet, but did not reveal any solid figures.

80 percent of female console gamers choose Wii

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 27th, 2009

80 percent of female console gamers choose WiiIf choosy moms choose Jif, than choosy female gamers apparently choose the Wii. Nintendo recently did some info checking and it turns out that the Wii is outperforming its rivals when it comes to female gamers. According to its estimates, 80 percent of the female console gaming crowd prefers Wii over the alternatives.

There are an estimated 11.7 million female console gamers in the Americas, but keep in mind that this data doesn’t take into account DS owners or PC users. However this figure adds up to roughly nine million ladies. In related news, men are now encouraged to approach women only in 480p mode, displaying cartoony graphics, with no good titles to your name. This apparently woos the ladies.

Think of it as an autopsy that they’ve performed so that you won’t have to. Have fun checking out the guts of this larger DSi. Unless you’re the squeamish type. We undertstand. It can be hard to look at something you love being so…violated.

All PS3 units will be firmware upgradeable to 3DLooks like it won’t be long before you are gaming on the PS3 with 3D technology. According to Sony, your current PS3 can support 3D with a firmware update. Sony wants into the 3D market and they are not just dipping a toe in either.

They will be offering 3D tools to developers making games on its platform. Not sure if we’ve heard anything about what Nintendo and Microsoft plan to do about 3D technology, but now that Sony has weighed in, they will likely speak up soon. The Xbox 360 could probably take the firmware route as well.

Sanyo releases new contact-free Eneloop Wiimote charger

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2009

Sanyo releases new contact-free Eneloop Wiimote chargerSanyo’s Eneloop Wiimote charger hit last year. It was the first to be officially approved by Nintendo and it allowed charging while your thick rubber covers were still in place, which is cool, but it quickly became obsolete by the Motion Plus.

Sanyo now has a solution. That solution is to buy a brand new charger. This new one does exactly the same thing, it just has some extra room at the bottom for the motion-plus. The device is USB-powered and charges using induction, so no contact is required. And this one will hold a pair of Wiimotes instead of just one.

Nintendo denies Wii HD in 2010

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 9th, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?We had been hoping for a Wii HD in 2010 or 2011 and it looked like it was a possibility. But sadly Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime says that this is not the case. There will be no Wii HD with Blu-ray player and 1080p.

Wait. If they don’t want to compete, does this mean they are getting out of the gaming business? My Wii has been collecting dust for about a year. They need to do something with the 360′s Natal and the PS3′s motion-wand on the way very soon.
