Early Amazon Black Friday Wii bundle deal with $50 Gift Card

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 16th, 2009

Early Amazon Black Friday Wii bundle deal with $50 Gift CardThe Wii has had it’s time in the sun, but lately it seems to have lost some traction and given way to it’s higher resolution competitors. Lately I’ve been seeing all kinds of Wii deals. Even businesses giving them away as promotions.

Well, Amazon has a great deal if you haven’t bought a Wii yet. When you buy the Nintendo Wii console along with a Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board you get a free $50 Gift Card. Normally the Wii sells for $199.99 and the Wii Fit Plus with Balance board sells for only $89.99. The overall cost is $289.98. But subtract the $50 gift card value and you get this Wii bundle for $239.98 on Amazon.

Nintendo DSi Studio Kit

Posted in Nintendo DSi by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2009

dsiEveryone knows that as soon as you get a DSi you have to become a professional photographer, since the camera on the DSi is so great and all. So get yourself this DSi Studio Kit that allows you to add removable flash, wide angle, macro and telephone lens attachments.

There’s also a set of color filters so you can create visual effects. Judging by the design and colors, this is aimed at young girls, but what do you care. You’re the guy taking pics with a DSi.

Sanyo releases new contact-free Eneloop Wiimote charger

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 12th, 2009

Sanyo releases new contact-free Eneloop Wiimote chargerSanyo’s Eneloop Wiimote charger hit last year. It was the first to be officially approved by Nintendo and it allowed charging while your thick rubber covers were still in place, which is cool, but it quickly became obsolete by the Motion Plus.

Sanyo now has a solution. That solution is to buy a brand new charger. This new one does exactly the same thing, it just has some extra room at the bottom for the motion-plus. The device is USB-powered and charges using induction, so no contact is required. And this one will hold a pair of Wiimotes instead of just one.

Nintendo denies Wii HD in 2010

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 9th, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?We had been hoping for a Wii HD in 2010 or 2011 and it looked like it was a possibility. But sadly Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime says that this is not the case. There will be no Wii HD with Blu-ray player and 1080p.

Wait. If they don’t want to compete, does this mean they are getting out of the gaming business? My Wii has been collecting dust for about a year. They need to do something with the 360’s Natal and the PS3’s motion-wand on the way very soon.

iPhone 3GS gets a Nintendo N64 emulator

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on November 3rd, 2009

iPhone 3GS gets a Nintendo N64 emulatorZodttd is a developer working on a N64 emulator for the iPhone 3GS. Will it have the power? Possibly, thanks to CPU, GPU and OpenGL ES 2.0 support that will deliver smooth N64 emulation. But don’t get too excited.

Some high-end N64 titles might not be available due to the lack of power. The other issue would be the control scheme. Some of us hated the N64’s controller and found the games hard enough to play originally. The iPhone won’t be any better.

An entire baby Wiimote peripheral

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on November 2nd, 2009

An entire baby Wiimote peripheralYou thought the inflatable horse peripheral was a bad idea. That was before your kid could get a whole baby to use with their Wii. Every time I think that we have seen the height of weirdness in Wii-land, they drop something even weirder on us.

Bundled with the upcoming Wii game Baby and Me (in Australia), this doll-mote uses the Wiimote’s speaker to make the baby cry or laugh. You can even use the Wii Balance Board, which allows you to burp the baby, rock the baby and teach “her” to walk. (Which she will never learn because she’s just a doll with a Wiimote crammed in her insides.)

Posted in Nyko by Conner Flynn on October 29th, 2009

Nyko Zoom Case for Nintendo DSiWe’ve been seeing a lot of hype about Nyko’s optical Zoom Case for the Nintendo DSi around the blogosphere over the last few days. What gives guys? The ‘Brick covered this one back in June. I guess the release of the larger DSi has them all freaked out.

We still aren’t sure who would want an 8x optical zoom for their DSi, but hey, at $25 it allows your handheld to get all “mine’s bigger than yours”.

Netflix streaming hitting Nintendo Wii next

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 28th, 2009

wii-sb1It’s not rocket science. First it was Microsoft’s Xbox 360, then the PlayStation 3. Now Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” is coming to Nintendo’s Wii. At least that’s what the word is, according to StreamingMedia, who has an undisclosed source that has confirmed that Nintendo is currently testing Netflix streaming on the Wii. And that it will be available “very soon.”

Hopefully that means before the holidays, but it could mean anything. If you have a Wii, you are used to waiting anyway. Waiting for better games, waiting for a better storage option, waiting for something better than 480p…

DSi to get voice chat channel soon?Word on the street is that the Nintendo DSi may be getting a voice chat channel very soon. Nintendo has denied the rumor, but what would you expect? This is the company that offered up Wii Speak for the Wii.

Chatting on a DSi makes more sense. This sentence is what started the rumor:

To redeem a Nintendo DSi Download Ticket number, such as for the Nintendo DSi Speak Channel, enter the number off the Nintendo DSi Download Ticket in “Settings and Features” off of the main Nintendo DSi Shop page, then select “Nintendo DSi Download Ticket.
