HP has been busy today having filed a trio of trademarks for devices that could represent Palm’s 2011 webOS lineup. The USPTO filings refer to the Gyst, Myte and Veer in generic terms but they could fit the description of a smartphone. These three could be the previously codenamed Mantaray, Stingray and Windsor, with the previously mentioned Broadway maybe being the Pixi 2.

We don’t know what these phones will do versus the Pre 2 and Pixi 2, but at least one will likely to be a touch-only model. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

Griffin has launched a new iTrip FM transmitter for iPods, iPhones and MP3 players, called the Griffin iTrip Universal. It comes with an integrated 3.5mm audio cable, a built in display, and two user programmable presets. The device is powered by two AA batteries and comes with an optional window mount for your dashboard or car windshield.

iTrip sends the music from your player to the closest FM receiver, in your car or at home, through your stereo speakers. Expect it to be available in the first Quarter of 2011, with the iTrip costing $25 and the optional window mount costing $20.

Looking for some retro gaming on your Android Smartphone? Well, you’re in luck. A new Sega Dreamcast Emulator is currently in development for the Android OS. It’s still in the early stages of development, but it shouldn’t be very long before you are playing the classics on your Android phone.

Can you believe its been 11 years since the Sega Dreamcast was first launched? It was the first console to include a built-in modem and Internet support for online play. Sadly, it was discontinued a few years later, but remains a favorite of many gamers.

Disney’s upcoming Tron Legacy is getting plenty of hype and Sci-Fi fans are waiting anxiously. Apple users also can share the excitement as iAd for iPad is for this very movie. This is the first and only iAd to hit the iPad for 2010 since iAds have been showcased for just iPhones until now.

However, 2011 could see a bunch of iAds hitting the device. Each ad features rich graphics, touch navigation and video native to apps. Disney’s Tron Legacy iAd is a full screener and will run in iPad apps like TV Guide. It’ll also have purchase options for various apps etc. based on the movie. The soundtrack can also be previewed or downloaded right from the ad via iTunes.

We know that the iPhone can be used as a gaming platform and the graphics can be pretty decent. Well, they are about to get even better. Imagination Technologies has acquired Caustic Graphics. Imagination Technologies makes the iPhone’s GPU and Caustic is well known for 3D graphics, so it’s a great combo.

This deal could open up the possibility for very realistic imagery to reach new real-time apps and markets. We can’t wait to see what comes from this new union. It should be very interesting.

There has been some talk about the Galaxy Tab 2 having Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chipset and we’re hearing it again, but this time it’s coming from an analyst. Ambrish Srivastava, a semiconductors analyst, recently spent a week visiting more than 30 tech companies and thinks that Nvidia Tegra will be very busy in 2011, inside many devices.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab sequel is said to be one of those devices. If true, this is a bit of a surprise since Samsung has developed a dual-core successor to Hummingbird. One reason might be that they want to segregate the smartphones and tablets with different processors.

RIM and Amazon.com have teamed up to launch Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry smartphones. That means that Blackberry addicts will be able to access Amazon’s catalog of over 14 million songs and enjoy them on the go. Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry allows users to browse, preview, download, store, and even inform their friends about their favorite music.

It will let you download music via Wi-Fi or over the air (OTA), browse through what’s new, check out deals, top songs, top albums, genres, and sub genres among other things. Just like iTunes, you can also check out a 30-second sample of a track before buying.

GelaSkins have been around for a while offering neat skins that prevent scratches on your notebooks and smartphones. Now if you own one of the new MacBook Air ultraportables, GelaSkins has announced that it is now supporting that device as well.

GelaSkins offers many different styles, some plain, some from famous artists. The one pictured above is “Take Me to Your Leader” and they even have some from Frank Miller of 300 and Sin City. There’s a great selection.

Just shortly after Google released the Android 2.3 SDK, developers have already spotted some new code that appears to be related to buttons on Sony’s PlayStation controllers. This discovery corroborates earlier rumors and leaks, including videos and images showing a PlayStation phone with a control configuration similar to the PSP Go.

The new code includes references to the L1, L2, R1 and R2 triggers found on PlayStation controllers, while Google has given generic labels to what looks like the Square, Triangle, X and Circle buttons.

The latest collaboration between sports companies and tech manufacturers has Sennheiser and Adidas unleashing the HD220 headphones and the CX310 in-ear earphones. The HD220 is equipped with neodymium magnets, a closed supra-aural design and individually adjustable ear cups.

The CX310 comes with a variety of earpiece sizes to fit all ears and both sets are bundled with pouches for carrying them around and cost the same at $65. The style looks pretty cool for that price and they look comfortable.

A recent survey published by Nielsen shows that Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone are among the most popular phones in the U.S., with iPhone and BlackBerry leading with a 27 percent market share each and Android not too far behind with 23 percent and Windows Mobile capturing 14 percent.

The interesting aspect about the survey is that males prefer Android over the iPhone and its iOS operating system (33 percent for Android versus 29 percent for iOS) and that women were more interested in iOS (31 percent to 23 percent). Overall, the iPhone appears to be leading with 35% of those who are looking into purchasing a new phone, while 28% are choosing Android.

Audio-Technica has two new sets of noise cancelling headphones that are each under $100. Most Noise Canceling headphones will set you back more than that. The ATH-ANC27 and ATH-ANC25 both have similar features. The ANC27 headphones can block up to 85% of the sound in a room using active noise cancellation and are an over-the-ear design, while the ANC25 are on-ear style and can block 80% of the sound in the room.

Both use active noise cancellation tech and are compatible with Apple products like the iPhone and iPod. And both need an AAA battery for the noise cancellation feature. The ANC27 headphones are $99.95 and the ANC25 sell for $79.95.

Smartphones are smart, but not very loud. Until now that is. SRS Labs has announced a whole new audio solution for smartphones that have built-in stereo speakers called SRS WideSurround. It will boost a handsets multimedia capability and provide a wider more detailed perspective for audio.

They say that it will be “an expansive personal surround field so, no matter if a user is holding the device in their hand or propping it up on a table or desk, the overall audio experience is notably more compelling, truly immersive and remarkably more engaging than traditional stereo.” So who is first to get it? Verizon users will be the first, with the new Samsung Continuum Galaxy S that’s available with the service for about $199.99 (on contract).

MicroVision’s latest offering is an all new pico laser projector called the MicroVision SHOWWX+ that’s designed just for Apple gear. iPhone and iPad users will now be able to view their screens in a 100-inch frame with 15 lumens of video at a 5,000:1 contrast ratio.

The projector can run for up to 2 hours on a full battery, which is a bit disappointing. You won’t be watching long movies I guess. It comes with a connector for Apple devices and a price tag of $450.

The folks over at the FCC have let some pictures and details slip about the upcoming BlackBerry 8980, a device that seems to be a successor to the Curve 8900. The phone pictured above will boast a quad-band GSM antenna, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and a 3.2-megapixel camera with flash.

And according to the user manual, it will be powered by BlackBerry OS 5. The device looks very similar to the BlackBerry 9700, which is a popular BB version, so that’s probably good news.
