Apple working on a smaller standardised SIM card?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

If you want to make smaller phones, you need to make SIM cards smaller right? That’s just what Apple is doing. Apple has submitted plans for a smaller SIM card to the European Telecoms Standards Institute (ETSI) and has also received the backing of a number of major mobile operators including Orange.

The development and approval process will take a few months, maybe longer, but there seems to be a broad consensus among members of the standards committee, so that should speed up the process. Aside from making devices smaller, this standardized SIM card would also be used by other companies. This is odd for Apple since it usually restricts its developments to its own products.

This is by no means official, but we have no reason not to believe it so far and Cyber-shot fans have been waiting for a new Android-based version of the cellphone with high quality imaging and resolution. Sony executives have so far refused to comment. Interesting.

It’s hard to figure out more since the image is so blurry. For instance, is that red trim part of the phone or just a protective case? We don’t know. A red HTC phone sounds good though.

Low-end Android devices are ready to take over the world

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

We all know that Android is super popular right now, but it looks like the best is yet to come for the platform. According to Digitimes, low-end Android phones are about to take the already-popular OS to new heights. Maybe even world domination. The reason is simple. Some handset vendors are rushing to launch low-priced (under $150) Android devices.

Digitimes thinks that 20-25 million of these devices will be sold this year alone. Those are huge numbers. We are talking a tenfold increase from last year’s 2.5-3 million phones sold. The low end Android market is wide open right now.
